Resistance 3 Review | Gun Porn Montage [Dealspwn.com]

Dealspwn writes: "Not the huge finale the PS3 deserved, with just a few flashes of cinematic brilliance. The return of the weapon wheel allowed Insomniac to show off one of the finest ranges of weapons in any shooter out there, but the Campaign is too damn short and safe. Multiplayer strays too close to other shooters apart from the inspired weapon selection. It’s not the sign-off we wanted from Insomniac Games, but we’re grateful for all the class PlayStation exclusives over the years."

its a good thing i can make up my own mind on what is good, and what is not. so far im having a blast playing the campaign on co-op so for me its a straight up solid 9.

so glad i don't base my game purchases off of other peoples opinions.

rezzah4990d ago

Are you saying that in defense of the 7? I can't tell if you're appalled by the 7 for being a "low" score or if you just don't like what he had to say about his opinions on the game.

And that's good that you can make up your own mind and all but really who cares. Just buy the game if you want to buy it.

TBM4990d ago (Edited 4990d ago )

i just dont agree with his opinion, we all have to right to agree or disagree.

@ at those who say this game doesnt look good i have to disagree with you too. i love the art style for this game it gives the feeling of dread and no hope for the people of earth. i personally have enjoyed all the games in the series, and i hope IG continues with more in it.

BattleAxe4990d ago

I think the single player campaign was freakin awesome, I just beat it lastnight :) But what I haven't liked so far was the major lagg when playing online. It didn't matter what game I was in, it was choppy at times, and it just doesn't feel smooth. I didn't bother with the Beta because I wanted the experience to be fresh when the game released, but I'm not super impressed by the online so far. I still have yet to try the co-op, so hopefully that will be a good experience.

pr0digyZA4990d ago (Edited 4990d ago )

I was not much of a fan of the previous two but this for me is the best in the series I would also give it a 9. I am having a blast with it, I'm only on chapter 7 however.

pangitkqb4990d ago (Edited 4990d ago )

I simply can't help but question if this reviwer understands what actually constitutes quality. Although there are some missteps in the campaign - such as the abrupt ending - it is clearly one of the most atmospheric, original, and emotional campaigns to grace a shooter in a long while.

With a post apocalyptic horror vibe, great voice work, excellent lighting, crisp game play, and fantastic action sequences...any complaints are nitpicks.

Ju4990d ago (Edited 4990d ago )

I don't know. I don't really see how this is better than 2. But for me R2 was a good game. Visually it has its moments, great set pieces, but than totally lack of detail in some areas. I think Insomniac has lost it. Honestly.

The game is fun, gameplay is back where the series started. I enjoy it a lot. Campaign definitively is too short. The old R2 co-op mode is missing big time. MP is OK, plenty of maps, but takes a while until you rank up. Low ranks are a pain to play.

7 is a bit low in my book, but 9 would actually be very good. Gameplay is the stand out, visuals are not, unfortunately. Not sure what happened there.

This site gave Super Meat Boy Ultra/Rare Edition 9/10... How can that even be possible???? lol

Holeran4990d ago

The game is fantastic. In my opinion it is a 9.5 with minor point deduction due to framerate issues in the multiplayer.
Best fps of the year so far to me.

GOODKyle4990d ago

I find it funny how 95% of official metacritic reviewers gave this game an 8 or better out of 10. But all the unheard of sites give this game mediocre scores. Tells you something doesn't it?

Resistance 3 is a Classic, 13 Years On

Insomniac Games' thunderous conclusion to its acclaimed first-person shooter series remains an under-appreciated work of art.

Sony needs to remake the trilogy on ps5

CrimsonWing69179d ago

I’d rather them do a new game in the world of Resistance.

Cacabunga179d ago (Edited 179d ago )

I honestly liked the first one most..
killzone 2 and 3 outshined Resistance 2 and 3 for me in every aspect.

Eonjay179d ago

I absolutely adored Resistance 3 but they do not NEED to remake this game. They should do something that they enjoy and if it is Resistance then so be it.

Mr_cheese179d ago

Loved resistance 3, played the whole thing on co op with the move controller and gun, was very different!

Resistance 2 online was the best

gamerz179d ago

Me too, but also on a 3D tv! R3 was one of the few games that got plastic rifle panning motion right.

isarai179d ago

Such a criminally underrated series, id love a remaster collection of the trilogy.

preciousdeath179d ago

Yes! ...and make them PSVR2 compatible.

Pedrof179d ago

Not a classic in my opinion ; a pretty mediocre PS3 shooter as far as I'm concerned, not bad, not the worst of the trilogy, but certainly not great. Killzone 2 was miles ahead of it (and of most FPSs even today as far as I'm concerned).

pwnmaster3000179d ago

Naw man.
Resistance 1 will always be GOATed for me.
I remember playing all night on multiplayer. Such a fun game.

P_Bomb179d ago

Ah yeah, R1! I cut my teeth on the one-shot Walmart map, lol! Miss that.

gamerz179d ago

Played that demo soooooo many damn times since it was the only thing to play for a while at launch. That and motorstorm.

refocusedman179d ago

killzone was amazing but resistance was great as well. althpugh theybwrre both fps, I think that served different purposes.

JEECE179d ago

Thanks for turning Insomniac into a Marvel studio.

ApocalypseShadow179d ago (Edited 179d ago )

Although I agree on original games and creativity over licensed IP, especially something like Ghost of Tsushima. But Sony's looking at that series selling less and less overall with the 3rd estimated to not even sell 2 million. Gamers who say they loved it didn't really buy it.

While Spiderman the series has sold over 50 million not counting PC. And Spider-Man 2 is over 11 million so far. If you had their business and had to make their decisions, what would you do in their shoes?

JEECE179d ago

@ApocalypseShadow

Umm, that's exactly my point lol. Insomniac made great, original IP games and people didn't buy them because they were too busy lapping up yearly CODs and Assassin's Creeds, so naturally Sony/Insomniac had to pivot to something else.

Knushwood Butt179d ago

So you are saying 1 was the worst?
I respect your opinion but strongly disagree.

I'll start with what I didn't like about 3:
- OK, Nathan Hale is gone but new player character totally forgettable. Can't even remember their name.
- Awful forced in 3D. Just look at KZ3 for 3D done well.
- Online multiplayer that paled in comparison to 1 and 2. Put hundreds of hours into the first two. Probably less than 10 hours into 3.
- Campaign was OK but I played the other two more, especially 1.

Pedrof178d ago

1 had my favorite gunplay of the trilogy (no need for COD iron sight) so I guess my worst would be 2. At least 3 wrapped up the storyline, supported the move controller and had prettier graphics. But in my book, none of the three really stood out. From that era, I prefered Singularity for example and obviously Killzone 2.

I wish they'd bring back the Resistance 2 multiplayer. God that co-op was so much fun.

Resistance 3 is such a great game. One of my all time bests.

cooperdnizzle1046d ago

Couldn’t agree more. Still love It as a shooter to this day.

Just something about that game. I really wish they would just do a remaster, don’t even need a remake just bring it up to todays out put, touch up a few things if any, and I am there to buy it day one.

Of course I would love a remake built from the ground up. As long as they treated it like Shadow of the Colossus, or close to those type of remake. Wouldn’t want it to get the RE treatment…. Just because the game is already paced so perfect and hits all the right beats that I wouldn’t touch that aspect.

My take:

Single player
3, 2, 1

Multiplayer
3, 1, 2

Overall
3, 2, 1

I beat the lengthy single player in 1 multiple times and spent hours in the online too. Plus 1 featured my home town! Special mention to the audio design in 1: playing that with surround headphones blew me away.

Note: I have the platinum for Resistance 2.

Eidolon1102d ago

Resistance 1 MP will always be my favorite. Call it nostalgia or whatever, but that was my jam, felt more balance, natural.

Miraak82 1102d ago

i have the platinium too , 10k kills in online ranked matches was no joke . Took me 3-4 months straight grinding but it was fun . To put it in perspective you only got like 25 kills per match if you were 1st place every match that's at Least 400 matches in 1st

Sciurus_vulgaris1104d ago

I only played the 3 main Resistance titles. My ranking would be;
1. Resistance 3
2. Resistance: Fall of Man
3. Resistance 2

GoodGuy091104d ago

Man I loved 3's campaign. Another gem stuck on the ps3 and who knows if insomniac will go back to the franchise.

fr0sty1102d ago

Resistance, Warhawk, MAG, Motorstorm, there's so many first party gems on PS3 that Sony has just left to die...

P_Bomb1103d ago

Never played Burning Skies but I still have Retribution.

monkey6021103d ago

Burning Skies was about 3 hours long and rather inconsequential. You haven't missed anything

porkChop1103d ago

Honestly, Burning Skies was shit. There's no two ways about it. At first I thought it looked terrible, then I second guessed myself. Big mistake.

darthv721102d ago

Retribution has this really cool feature where you could use a PS3 to link a controller to it and play. So if you had a 2000 or 3000 hooked to a tv, you can use a real controller. All of this predates the PSP Go's ability to sync a sixaxis to it via bluetooth.

Yui_Suzumiya1103d ago

Resistance 3 was shocking and brilliant. Loved it.
