The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim rated 15 by BBFC, "strong violence"

Who knew a world with dragon slaying to harness their power would involve violence? Well, apparently the BBFC knew and warns us with a 15 certificate.

Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is open to anyone above the age of 15 and thankfully there were "no cuts made" to the RPG. It's out November 11th.

Isn't that rated T? I remember some games being rated PEGI 16 but getting a T rating, while others are rated M.

Jio4981d ago

I meant BBFC 15, not PEGI

MidnytRain4981d ago

I read somewhere that Oblivion was originally rated T for Teen, but was changed to M for content the vast majority would never see. (Or intended to see.)

JsonHenry4981d ago

Strong violence? What does that even mean? What is regular violence? Or weak violence?

A-Glorious-Dawn4981d ago (Edited 4981d ago )

General aggression is probably classed as weak violence.
Physical harm is a level up, death may be included in the level depending on the circumstance..
Gore and blood orientated things are strong violence...

Infamous = mild-standard violence

Prototype = Strong violence

Ontopic: The blood effects in Skyrim look great from what I've seen. This is probably why they have classified it as so..

Though, I have heard that those making the classification do not actually see or play the game, they simply are given a list summarising the content that could be considered 'mature'

^^ Thanks for the answer even though it was meant rhetorically. I was trying to point out that some bozo sitting in a public funded role is making decisions for everyone else when what each of us considers violent or offensive is a completely arbitrary decision and based solely on some bureaucrats opinion.

I hate attempted government censure.. ARRGGGHH!!!

DanSolo4981d ago (Edited 4981d ago )

@jsonhenry

While censorship can be very annoying and I have been pissed off at it many times when it gets niggly... if we are all objective for a minute I think it is safe to say that it is a necessary annoyance... can you imagine the sick shit that would be put out there without censorship?

And for those that say it is a personal choice, I have to say that for some of us that is true.... but there are a lot of sheeple out there that can't be trusted to make sensible decisions... it's a sad but true fact about the human race... for every one of us with a mind of our own and the ability to make the right choice because it is right and not because we are forced to.... there are probably at least 50 people who just can't do that... even if they do give the impression they can!

Still I can't deny that I find a lot of censorship really annoying and anal!

A-Glorious-Dawn4981d ago

^^

I agree, censorship and these ratings are necessary. Its the censorship process that needs to be addressed..

WHY IS BBFC STILL RATING VIDEO GAMES?

They should have stopped by now. PEGI should have full power by now :/

Da_Evil_Monkey4981d ago

I prefer BBFC ratings, it standardises film and game ratings, as well as having 15 instead of 16+.

Kran4981d ago

BBFC.

British Board of Film Classification.

FILM Classification.

Not BBFAGC.

Thats British Board of Film and Games Classification

rated BU, for Buy Used. Shout outs to my boy Notch! brap brap brap!

Dovahkiin4981d ago

If this is referring to Bethesda supposedly suing Mojang, then you obviously didn't read into it very much at all. It is Zenimax, (who Bethesda are a division of) that are the bad guys, not Bethesda.

GoldenPheasant4981d ago

No, I actually read a lot about it sunshine, but nice try to defuse it for all the sheep. I bought and played Daggerfall at the end of 96. I bought and played Morrowind, same goes for Oblivion. I was going to buy Skyrim new (which I rarely do for multiplat releases) until this happened.

Some of us gamers are older and do have a touch of moral responsibility (if that's what you want to call it) left.

How much you wanna bet something like this wouldn've of happened, if MineCraft presold 1000 units. Exactly.

I was expecting this from the Acti/Bliz camp for the "CRAFT" part, but this, WTF!

Dovahkiin4981d ago

Sunshine? Really?

All of what you've just said has nothing to do with my reply, also why bring Minecraft into this at all? Nothing either of us said had anything to do with it, also why say 'Exactly' when you don't know for sure that i agree with you? You may be 'older' but you certainly don't sound it from the wording in that reply.

If you've read alot about it, why did you even make that comment? And this so called 'moral responsibility'? again has nothing to do with my reply.

Just take that it isn't the creators of Skyrim that are suing Notch. I know you want that to be the case, but it just isn't.

Enjoy waiting for Skyrim to come into your nearest store used, cause you're gonna have to wait a long time.

Fallout and Skyrim show us that talented developers make great games when you leave them alone

That judicious lack of oversight permeated everything in Bethesda's RPGs, in a positive fashion.

Christopher9d ago

I much prefer a left alone Obsidian and Larian Studios. Bethesda's formula has grown old for me.

anast7d ago

Larian hit another level with DOS:2 and then took it even further with BG3. They do high quality work.

jznrpg8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

Skyrim was a letdown compared to previous games and so was Fallout 4

Kosic7d ago

I agree, I found it an interesting game. But nowhere near worth the hype (unless you include mods)

dmonee8d ago

Skyrim blew my mind when it released. That game took me to the gaming, promisedland. Going back to it when it was updated for the PS5, it felt slightly rough around the edges, but great for its time

TheColbertinator7d ago

We should leave Obsidian alone. Bethesda on the other hand should be kept under constant psychiatric observation.

anast7d ago

Skyrim feels like the game was made in a hurry with a disorganized team.
