The Sims Social, a new addiction minutes at a time

8bitfix writes: I admit deep down despite all the shooters, hack and slash, wrestling, and fighting games I generally play I have a soft spot for The Sims. Ever since the turn of the century when The Sims was first unleashed onto the public...

Why The Sims Will Never Die Out

"The day Maxis released the first Sims game, my sister and I both purchased a copy. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. I was about 10-years old and well-versed in PC gaming at the time." | Explosion.com

The Idea of Stealing a Game

Leanne C. Taylor-Giles writes: It seems to be a well-known fact that you can’t copyright an idea, but if there are enough similarities in the execution, a case can be made. That’s exactly what EA is doing with its lawsuit against Zynga, and exactly what it’s entitled to do. It’s just a shame that it took so long, and that the company making the claim is EA.

In some cases I think there is just plain robbery of some gaming ideas.

On the other hand that is what innovation is. You take an idea and you improve upon the idea and you get a new product.

It's very hard to judge between the two though.

Electronic Arts sues Zynga over new game similar to 'Sims' games

Zynga made a name for itself by developing games for Facebook, but a lawsuit from Electronic Arts accuses the FarmVille maker of acting less than friendly.

Zynga's new game The Ville is a "blatant mimicry" of EA's The Sims Social game, EA's suit alleges.
EA filed the copyright infringement suit Friday on behalf of its Maxis Label, which created The Sims Social.

I hate when mobile game companys copy other companies.

EA have a point but so does Zynga. It isn't like this game is out of the blue as they have been doing similar games for a while now.

I love this quote (from another article) "It’s also ironic that EA brings this suit shortly after launching SimCity Social, which bears an uncanny resemblance to Zynga’s CityVille game. Nonetheless, we plan to defend our rights to the fullest extent possible and intend to win with players"

Interesting to see how this one turns out

I hope they both lose... if that's possible.

@WeskerChildReborned

Yeah, it's just awful that EA is trying to turn their entire line up of games into Call of Duty!

You were talking about EA ripping off other games right? /s

fei-hung4696d ago

I think EA done Medal of Honour 1st before Call of Duty and it can be argued that Call of Duty is a copy of Medal of Honour.

Okay picking a side in this is gonna be very difficult for me they both have shitty business ethics.

ChunkyLover534697d ago

I can think of games that were much more "inspired" by games than this one is, if successful, we might see similar lawsuits in the future.

Krimmson4697d ago

I wonder, has EA sued the creators of the Playboy game by any chance?

Grap4697d ago

there is playboy game? i feel dumb to not know that.
