PS4/Xbox 720 in late 2012, 'access anywhere, any time' thinks ex-Codemasters Executive Producer

SystemLink: "Gamer's Guide to Life.com, the best big brother we could ever wish for, had a sit down with Adam Parsons, who left his position as Executive Producer at Codemasters at the start of this month for a secret new project elsewhere. He left us, however, with some of his thoughts on the next generation of consoles."

don't see it but would still buy either way

We really dont need new consoles, the PS3 is already so powerful. All Sony needs to do is release another firmware to unlock some more power and we will be set for another 4-5 years.

Its so awesome Sony decided to not let developers take advantage of the console day one. Now we can actually enjoy progress much like PC gamers see it with every upgrade, yet we dont have to upgrade.

powerofcell4669d ago (Edited 4669d ago )

We just need to wait for Sony decide when they feel we will be ready to handle the next performance unlock.

So far they probably feel we are pretty satisfied what the PS3 can do. If we @#$! too much they may release a firmware update which increases performance sooner then later. Its just that they dont feel we are ready for it yet.

30fps is perfect man, PS3 is actually capable of 120fps. Its just that Sony doesnt feel we are ready for that kind of performance yet.

beavis4play4669d ago

i don't see it either - and i wouldn't buy it - i'll go back and play all of the ps3 games i haven't got a chance to play before i go to next gen.

blumatt4669d ago (Edited 4669d ago )

Come on powerofcell, you don't really believe that, do you? lol The PS3 is very powerful, but it's not a miracle worker. Sony is not going to release a firmware update and magically the graphics are going to be just a huge jump up. That's not realistic. Having said that, the PS3 does have ALOT of life left. Having one hell of a first party studio portfolio, they have a lot of talent to wring every last drop of performance from the Cell chip and RSX.

However, I'm still ready for the PS4, so we can get all these features once and for all that everyone keeps demanding for. It'll be better if they wait until the PS4 comes out so that the features will be built into the system and not on a "game by game basis". I'm hoping for in-game recording and Youtube upload standard on the console, so we can record gameplay.

powerofcell4669d ago

No need dreaming of a PS4 friend. Sony promised us PS3 will be doing 120 fps, Sony never go back on their word.

Its a matter of time they will release updates which enable 120fps and even 1080p in games. Its just they feel we are not ready for that sort of power yet and i agree. If they gave so much power day 1, then we wouldnt see any progress during the consoles life.

Echo3074669d ago (Edited 4669d ago )

I don't think we'll see another PlayStation console for another few years. A new Xbox next year is more feasible.

Sony just started making money on the PS3 itself in the last 12-18 months so making another console doesn't seem right for them. And even if they drop the price $50 in the next year (and they likely will), do you really think Sony is going to launch the PS4 when the PS3 still costs $250? It's just not the right time for them.

Ironically, Sony could probably use a new console more than Microsoft right now. Microsoft is making buckets of money on the 360 and Kinect and are probably content just to sit and keep racking it in for as long as they can. Maybe I'm wrong, but it kind of seems like the PS3 is just treading water right now, despite a stellar lineup of first-party content in 2011. It's traditionally right around the time a console's sales start to even out that the manufacturer starts to push the next big thing.

Granted, the world's economy has likely affected the traditional console launch schedule, but I'd expect a new Xbox console before a new PlayStation console.

gamingdroid4669d ago

I don't think MS wants to release another console unless there is enough competitive pressure.

Presently only Wii U can do that, and that doesn't seem somewhat slim as well. The Wii U isn't out to outdo the other two, merely to match them with a unique twist. That is not likely to win the hardcore over and they already have successful product for the casual.

However, as you said and I agree that MS is likely to release another console before Sony does. At this point MS can afford to invest in another cycle, while Sony is just getting profitable and bleeding money elsewhere.

"Sony slashed its annual profit forecast after sinking to a quarterly loss of 15.5 billion yen, or $199 million, on Thursday, as the lingering effects of the Japanese earthquake, a punishingly strong yen and lackluster TV sales affected its bottom line. "

http://www.businessweek.com...

"Sony, reeling from three straight years of losses without a hit product, has dropped 31 percent this year."

http://www.businessweek.com...

That does not sound like a company that can afford to make major investments (read billions in upfront losses) into a new console cycle.

blumatt4669d ago (Edited 4669d ago )

But you're not acknowledging the fact that the PS4 could easily just be a PS3 with more SPUs, a better Cell, more RAM and a better GPU (and more feature as well, of course). I actually hope they go that route so that PS3 backward compatibility won't be an issue. Sony bought back the factory that makes the Cell chips so the R&D costs as well as the manufacturing costs to develop/make the PS4 won't be as much as the PS3, if they go this route.

To be honest I would rather Sony focus more on Vita then a new console for now. Vita is the system I’ve been waiting for since I was a little tyke. I thought the PSP was going to do it, and in a way it did, but it fell a little short due to only 1 analogue nub. The Vita fixes that shortcoming and then takes it to a whole new level. With the right support and focus from Sony I think it could be a major success for them. They just need to support the hell out of it, and they need to make sure 3rd party’s do too. I mean if I can play home console quality games on the go, especially if I can take the exact same game I was playing last night to continue it on my lunch break at work, and then transfer it back to the console when I got home (wirelessly) that would just be the coolest thing in gaming, to me, since the jump to 3D . If they sell game packages, say for $80.00 that would include the PS3, and Vita versions so you could do just what I was talking about I think it would absolutely catch the attention of gamers everywhere. I mean even gamers that aren’t a serious as us about it, I like to call them the “Call of Duty gamers”, I think would jump on it. If they could just transfer their stats from their PS3 games to the Vita and take it to work to play their coworkers, I think that demographic would eat it up. Hell I would make sure they did in my office. LOL, we would have KZ tournaments ever day at lunch, LOL. Maybe I’m way off base, but I think it would work like a mother%$ker. I just want them to support, support, support, the Vita, and just when you think there are too many games for it, support the f&^k out of it some more.

Raven_Nomad4669d ago

I thought we'd see a new Xbox next year, but with all the fantastic numbers the current Xbox 360 is generating and the way Kinect is selling, I just don't see it now. Probably 2013 for next Xbox and 2014 for PS3.

Sony is trying to push 3-D, Vita and are just now making decent games as well as a profit, don't think they are in a hurry to lose money again.

JBSleek4669d ago

I hate this paradox that people swear PS3 can hang in there for about 2-3 more years but Xbox needs a change immediate. Sorry to inform people but Xbox is doing better than PS3 so what makes you think if NeXtbox can come out in 2012 PS4 can just come in 2014.

They both need to a change and are outdated machinery.

Now being able to connect anytime anywhere much like an OnLive service sounds so good and it would make me very happy because I see that being more of the future of gaming. More service based and not how many pixels and can push and the very old saying of...

"Can it run Crysis though??"

BakedGoods4669d ago

You make an interesting argument, but I'm not sure cloud gaming is coming in 2014. Maybe elements of cloud, but we'll still have consoles. There simply isn't enough infrastructure to support fast, lag-free gaming.

HaloSpartan4669d ago

PS4/XBX3G won't come out next year. You might see a light reveal but the earliest you will see them is fall 2013. Also i don't think sony will wait a whole year again and do the same mistake they did this gen.

Echo3074669d ago

I agree that launching a year late was a mistake but I don't think Sony will necessarily have a choice this time around, depending on when Microsoft decides to start 'next-gen'.

neocrisis.com
IamTylerDurden12244d ago (Edited 2244d ago )

Some of the hardest platinums imo.

Orcs Must Die Uchained

Enter The Gungeon

Max Payne 3

Nuclear Throne

Super Meat Boy

bouzebbal2244d ago (Edited 2244d ago )

Velocity 2X
DJ Hero
SF4
KZ2
WipEout HD
...are among the toughest and 5 plats i am most proud of

jerethdagryphon2244d ago

Kz 2 the online was a stupid requirement

Knushwood Butt2244d ago

Congrats on Velocity 2X

I got the silver for 25 perfects...

joab7772244d ago

For me, in my run, it’s Lost Planet 2 and Killzone 2 before it’s patch. But about 3 yrs ago, I stopped chasing pointless trophies that are just wasted hours.

jazzking20012244d ago

i am not a plat hunter but i will try to get them.....if they do not require a ton of work to do.

jerethdagryphon2244d ago

Out of the 90 i have gt5 and sport are probobly high on the list that and sports champions

2pacalypsenow2244d ago

MGS 5 is not a hard platinum, it's just time consuming.

How is Killzone 2 not on this list?

jazzking20012244d ago

I have never played K2, thus not on the list.

kuraki_dan2244d ago

This list is trash.... infamous took me less than 24 hours to plat and resogun only a few days.... so many much harder/actually time consuming games. Warhawk for example...

Sniperwithacause2244d ago

OMG dude! You beat me to it. As soon as I started scrolling thru comments, and didnt see Warhawk yet I was going to post it.

the worst2244d ago

Warhawk is no joke. I have a championship blade. But flying all that time in the air. I just couldn't do it

franwex2244d ago

Still working on the mgs v one. So far I’m about 130 hours in. All I need to do is collect all the damn animals, beat the target tests on mother base, do the secondary objectives on the campaign. Phew.

Gameseeker_Frampt2244d ago

Killzone 2 is super hard now that the servers shut down yesterday.

joab7772244d ago (Edited 2244d ago )

That’s is my hardest before Radec was patched. I spent 9 straight hrs fighting him on Elite. And finally got him! Lost Planet 2 is also absurd!

And Dead Space 2 was tough, going through with like 3 saves for the whole game.

And is MGS 4 harder? I haven’t played 5, but going through 4 without alerting or dying is tough.

Knushwood Butt2244d ago

Radec was patched?

I admit I gave up.

IamTylerDurden12244d ago

My most enjoyable platinum was 2016 R&C. Most plats get tedious towards the end but R&C was fun the entire time.

dariux322244d ago

I am working on it right now. And game is stil fun to play in challenge mode.

jazzking20012244d ago

i also got it as a plat...trophies were mostly easy...thanks to a bug i was able to get the final racing trophy

jerethdagryphon2244d ago

You dont need a bug just need to practice a bit

SonyWarrior2244d ago

Socom confrontation is the true hardest plat they made that dumb hard to ever get the plat i doubt any one in the world besides the devs got the plat

2pacalypsenow2244d ago

Oh yeah that def was the hardest trophy prob out of all the games released on the Vita,Ps3 and Ps4

DaBudSmoka2244d ago

I got the socom platinum...so yea

AKS2244d ago (Edited 2244d ago )

That's the one that people seem to notice most. Several people have commented about that when they've checked out my trophies. I was more proud of getting the Big Boss Emblem in MGS4 in terms of gaming accomplishments, but alas there were no trophies when I got it.

jazzking20012244d ago

i beat MGS4 but that was before it got trophy support. If it had when i played it, i may have it now

AKS2244d ago (Edited 2244d ago )

The Big Boss Emblem was from a "perfect" run with no kills, health items, or alerts in under 4 hours on the most difficult setting. I feel like I should have a trophy for that.

jerethdagryphon2244d ago

Demons souls was pretty easy only pure bladestone was hard

The 10 Best Selling Gaming Consoles Of All-Time (As Of December 2017)

PS4 just earned a new rank as it continues its journey to 100 million.

I could’ve sworn the Genesis sold 40 million

kevnb2356d ago

i thought so too, the xbox one is probably already past 31 million as well.

badz1492356d ago

Best selling PS4 game is UC4 at 4 mil+?? WTF? It's not the best selling game on PS4 but it still sold like 10mil copies already by now.

kevnb2356d ago

ya, that uncharted 4 bundle sold like crazy.

Lime1232356d ago

I thought Uncharted 4 had better first week than Halo 5 in UK (where Xbox One is strongest, next to US), and it wasn't bundled then.

?

FyBy2356d ago

Wow ps4 shows its strenght. After 4 years is already in top 10. Surprise for me was og ps. I didnt knew it surpassed wii. And 62m for NES. Wow!

kevnb2356d ago (Edited 2356d ago )

sony is the only console maker that seems to be able to do really well in the entire world consistently. Xbox has troubles outside the west, Nintendo sometimes has problems in Europe, but Sony is killing it everywhere.

FyBy2356d ago

Yeah exactly! It was surprise for me, that every gen of ps is on the list. Nintendo is saved by its software and uniquenes. They have extremely well accepted first party titles.

Aceman182356d ago

PS1 didnt surpass Wii, it's just the Wii fell short of PS1 lol. Assuming we have another 2-3 yrs of the gen Sony will be only gaming company with 3 systems selling over 100 mil units. That is just inssne.

2356d ago
joab7772356d ago

Wow! Sony has 3 of the top 4 and the PS4 looks to be moving up into one of those spots. Crazy after all the issue with the PS3, it outsold the 360. And they turned it around by taking MS's lead. They focused on 1st party titles and making the gamer their top priority, like MS did for the 360s first 3-4 yrs. Then they started thinking too far ahead like their PC division.

PS4's Latest European Commercial Goes After Kids

This is interesting: a PlayStation 4 commercial targeted squarely at kids. Sony’s spent the past few years marketing the machine mostly at adults and core gamers, but it has hinted in recent interviews that it wants to widen the reach of the console as it pursues that all-important 100 million units milestone, and this is an example of that.
