Game is amazing. Its MK in all its glory . .. back the the MKII MK3 days.

SF4 would have been awesome in its own right, but they've made like 3 spinoffs in less than 2 years and its just plain retarded. SS4, SS4-Turbo, Super SS4, Super Duper SS4, Super Super Duper SS4 Turbo . . . you get the idea.

Agreed. I still think MK is the Call of Duty of fighting games. It's a casual fighter. My casual friends always want to play MK over SF because they can actually stand a chance in MK9 (Just like MVC3).

SF4 is too complex of a fighter for casuals to pick up and get good at. MK just uses content, boobs and blood. It's a gimmick, really... I think the characters from MK9 are sick. Sub Zero is one of the sickest dudes ever and always has been, but the MK fighting system/mechanics are clunky, stiff and broken. And the online?? Don't get me started on how busted and laggy that is haha.

In general, Japanese fighting games are much more solid and clean than American fighting games (though I did love Killer Instinct - That was U.S. right?)

MK has a LOT of potential but not in this version. Fighters need to be tweaked more, moves need to be more refined and balanced.

And the online....whoooo boy....a complete overhaul. I do like the managing of your meter part of the fighting.

All in all the next MK should be solid enough to compete with SF.

Really? I mean, I can understand your point of view if all your friends are equally good/awful at MK. But a 'casual' MK player is going to have their ass whooped by someone who actually knows all the character combos, moves and how to time their attacks. I can't stand playing MK with my friends because all they know how to do is button mash, so I end up wiping the floor with them every time. It's not an easy game to master.

Why is that the fighting genre is so limited and hard to establish a a new IP into.

Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat have been around for a long and no other fighting games have come close to the success that both games have had.

Sony come on your the king of exclusive3s but you still dont have a fighting game.

MS go to the attic and pUll out Killer Instinct and give it to Rare with a high budget and 100% freedom to do what they want with it - look what they did with Conkers giving freedom.

If developer are scared to go into the fighting genre you can always remake the classicS like:

The only people who think Mortal Kombat is better than Street Fighter are casual fighting fans. Granted, Mortal Kombat is a tournament friendly game, however, it's not up to par with Street Fighter nor is the skill. Street Fighter requires strict timing/execution whereas Mortal Kombat mostly requires memorization and simple button presses to get a combo out.

This isn't to say Mortal Kombat doesn't take any skill whatsoever but Street Fighter certainly takes more.

SF has better gameplay, characters, online system, balance, etc. On top of that without SF MK wouldn't even exist to begin with and without SFIV bringing back the 2D fighting scene from the dead MK9 wouldn't exist either.

If you play street fighter than you know its ultimately about mindgames not execution. MK brings high level mind games to people much quicker. You lose because they were a step ahead, not because you accidentally did a shoryuken instead of an ultra.
Some of the dash cancel timing late juggle is just as strict as the few frame windows to link that special in the mix with SSF4. It CAN be easier to do combos, yes, but that just means you are going to get hit by more if you let them. You can't just squeak by because you have one hitconfirm combo into ultra down pat.

War didn't become any less complicated when everyone got guns. They had to deal the with the fact that everyone can shoot a gun and adapt higher strategies.

If you stuck with the game for more than a few weeks you'd know this.

Mortal Kombat does not bring high level mind games quicker because of the fact that everyone's moves are essentially the same and are seperated by combos and specials. Throw in the fact that there is a universal block button and that eliminates cross-ups and limits mixups to an extent. The timing needed for certain links and having the skill to be able to not only be able to read last minute moves and have the reflexes to and execution to do this, I'm sorry but Mortal Kombat in no way is better than SF in technicality. You might dislike SF and love MK, but there's no getting around that despite your bias.

that argument is fallacious at best . IF that was true , stuff like Naruto or Dbz would be the biggest mind session ever .

They've got combos , and highly simplifed schemes for those , normal moves and block/evade .

Simpler hardly means better , nor would overcomplicating things would either .

Stuff like SF and tekken are held in higher regard among fighting games fans , within their respective 2d or 3d realms , because they brings a delicate and usually almost perfect balance of skills requirements and strategy .

If you need more obvious "proofs" , just see how more delighftul and interesting are tornaments such as EVO , for street fighter , and a few other games .

I have seen my little cousins play SSFIV, but they are better at playing MK lol and they have more fun with it too. The only thing I'm not liking is 2.5D in both games... it looks nice but nothing can beat those fine sprites of the past... I'm glad BB and KOF are still like that haha

Street fighter for me primarily because I just think it's a deeper fight system. I also don't like the constant chip damage of MK which forces people to fight aggressively. MK though is a far more complete package but seeing as I really only play fighting games for mp, SF wins.

Meter management in Mortal Kombat is a tedious task?! Please, first hit gets a free bar, once you get the breaker you save it so you don't eat big damage, if you're a moron you use your X-Ray... Real meter management

Whereas Street Fighter it gives certain moves different properties, enables armor and armor breaks, allows one to FADC to continue a combo or save themselves from eating damage.. Oh, and you only have 4 bars to work with.
