Nvidia Renders First $1B Quarter

The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company’s record sales reflect the growing relevance of GPUs in today’s market, and in particular, a big rise in laptop GPUs.

Sales for the third quarter ending in October were $1.12 billion, up 36 percent from $820.6 million for the same period a year ago.

Operating income was $247.8 million, up from $117.6 million from a year ago, while net income was up sharply to $235.7 million from $106.5 million.

Nvidia’s RSX graphics chip (co-developed with Sony) currently helps power the PS3, and its DX10-compatible line of GeForce graphics cards for PCs launched about a year ago. Nvidia hardware can be found in game consoles, PCs, cell phones, laptops and workstations.
