Didn't Get A Chance To Play Fatal Frame II? Then Watch This HD Playthrough

Nintendo recently announced that they plan on releasing Tecmo-Koei's remake of Fatal Frame 2 for Wii later this year, but it is yet to be known whether it will make it to Western shores.

So for all you gamers who are curious about the remake or simply never got the opportunity to play the rare Fatal Frame 2, here is a chance to watch the full game in all it's horror filled glory in HD 1080p.

Below is the introduction level, featuring the ill-fated Mio and her twin sister Mayu, as they accidentally stumble into a haunted village that is said to have mysteriously disappeared years ago. The rest of the playthrough can be viewed at the source.

Note: This walkthrough is being played in the OPTIONAL first-person mode for added scares. The default option is third-person, and the girls' default costumes are different to the kimonos being worn in this walkthrough.

I can't believe Tecmo are releasing the Fatal Frame 2 remake on Wii. Didn't they learn their lesson after Nintendo's mistreatment of Fatal Frame 4?

zerocrossing4647d ago

I agree, I heard Tecmo was pretty annoyed at Nintendo for giving the middle finger to all the FF fans in the west, Does Nintendo still own the rights? Because if they do I can see history repeating...

Pozzle4647d ago

I think Nintendo only owned the rights to FF4, and not the whole series. But then it makes no sense that Tecmo would release the remake on the Wii (Especially when it's core fanbase were PS2 owners).

If Tecmo hated how Nintendo treated FF4, why would they do this all over again? FF4 sold under 90,000 copies because Nintendo gave it no advertising, no mentions at any game conventions, and didn't release it in the west. Barely anybody even knew it existed. So what the hell are Tecmo thinking? It makes no sense to me. :/

zerocrossing4647d ago

It makes no sense to me either, I can only hope that Nintendo learnt from its mistake even though they don't seem to care all that much.

Not localising FF II remake could cause a lot of trouble, If the franchise continues to do poorly due to lack of sails Tecmo may stop making the FF games all together :/

What I remember correctly Nintendo owns the rights to the fatal frame franchise. I remember reading an article stating Nintendo brought over the rights; sadly I cant find the article to it. Also in the Japanese version of FF; the frame rates were horrible since it drop everytime you open the doors and stuff. Nintendo told Tecmo to fixed it and well Tecmo refuse to fixed it. You know Nintendo never released games that they find have terrible bugs any stuff.

Pozzle4647d ago (Edited 4647d ago )

I've played through the game multiple times, and have never come across these so-called "horrible bugs". I seem to recall it was IGN who started that rumor and it snowballed from there, though I haven't heard anyone have any major problems with the game. Try checking out the forums over at Cameras Lens - hardly anyone had any problems with the game.

The worst thing I came across were the characters sometimes getting stuck on the corner of walls or tables if you didn't walk all the way around them. But that's hardly a big deal.

The "horrible frame rates" when opening doors was mostly intentional and has been in every FF game since the beginning. It allows for easier load times without needing to switch to a load screen, and is disguised as the character's simply opening the door slowly out of fear. Tecmo probably refused to fix it because it would be a pain having to go to a load screen every time a character wants to enter a new area. Hooray for the Nintendo's hardware! /s

Is the door thing annoying? Yes. But the game hardly deserved to be refused localization because of frame rate issues during in-game loads.

Apart from that, the game wasn't buggy. Yes, it had it's problems (LIKE THE FACT THAT EVERY CHARACTER RUNS SO FRIGGING SLOW! GRRR SO MUCH RAGE!), but they're the same problems previous FF games had. If Nintendo was expecting a AAA title, they shouldn't have bought the rights to a damn Fatal Frame game. It's a niche series developed by a small team. It's not going to be perfect.

Preventing the game from being published overseas (and not having the decency to even advertise it in it's home country) was a fucking dick move on Nintendo's behalf.

Sorry, this got a bit ranty.

On the bright side, I do recall Tecmo saying they plan on releasing a future FF title on the PS3 and possibly 360 (though that was over a year ago), so I don't think Nintendo own the rights to the full series.

Im not too sure either but I remember reading on a forum talking about Nintendo purchasing the rights to Fatal Frame but who knows.

Another gitch I remember is the ghosts some of them you can not capture at all. But other than that I do not know

Fatal Frame II (Project Zero II) Crimson Butterfly is by far one of my all time favorite games :)

na-no-nai4647d ago

I would have to say Fatal Frame 1

zerocrossing4647d ago (Edited 4647d ago )

Its a tough choice for me :/ I say FF II because I think I played it more, FF 1 was just as great though.

zerocrossing4647d ago

Why do people have to disagree with personal opinions like my 1st comment? How can you disagree that I think one of my favourite games is Fatal Frame II ? Its ludicrous!

na-no-nai4647d ago

I dont know maybe its just a habit to some people. Of course we all have different opinion lol

All fatal frame games are awesome... now at the moment I am enjoying IV ... it's sooo scary! second is great too! after some time I'll play third ...

don't watch those videos, there's no immersion watching them.. you have to play games like this yourselves and if you haven't chance, maybe someday will... don't damage your experience.. that's why I didn't buy PSP second time just to play Peace walker (I sold psp before peace walker released) and patiently waiting it on Xbox360.. :) this is just an exmaple ;)

Great game, I still have my PS2 copy.

Concertoine108d ago

I played the OG Xbox game on 360 via BC. Played great and looked perfect. I imported the wii remake as well, but have never actually played it.

Venoxn4g108d ago

Great game and great series..hopefully they would port FF2 Wii remake version on other consoles as they did with FF4 and FF5

Original FEAR is a goddamn masterpiece

ModsDoBetter355d ago

Was playing Alien: Isolation again a few weeks ago, still holds up and the AI is incredible.

F.E.A.R. was another amazing game, shame the series went downhill with 2 and then fell off entirely with F3AR.

Couldn’t get into Fatal Frame, bought the remaster on PS5 and just…couldn’t.

DeathTouch355d ago

Fatal Frame 2 is an underrated masterpiece.

gold_drake354d ago

Abnor_Mal354d ago

One of my favorite games, would love to see a remake.

i still think Haunting Ground is one of the best.

I remember the suffering and it was descent game. I always wanted to play Crimson but never got to it.

But honestly, I’ve never played a game that really scared me, like some movies from the past have.

Silly gameAr557d ago

I remember The Suffering 1 and 2. I haven't thought about those games in years. I still remember some parts of the level in the prison where a guy was sucked through a vent screaming. I don't know why that's stuck with me all of these years.

I'm saving RE VIII for when the PS VR2 comes out.
