PS3 development was easy, says COD4 developer

It's been a common excuse for underwhelming early PS3 releases, but according to Infinity Ward, the developer of the Call of Duty series, developing the game on the PlayStation 3 was easy.

Who said it was not easy? that it took longer to get to know the system does not mean is harder to dev for it. Look at Kojima's Team(MGS4).

I guess it all depends on who are the devs.

ruibing6167d ago

Yeah, but Sony's development Playstation Edge tool is improving with every game released. Naughty Dog already said that they made sure to make their development process open and is dedicated to helping all other PS3 developers with their projects once Uncharted is completely released. You have to respect a close-knit community of developers that are helping one another like this.

deeznuts6166d ago

Who said it was not easy? Oh, how short of a memory people have. Carmack and Gabe Newell, just in the last few weeks, I believe.

Figboy6166d ago

and how many games have Carmack and Newell released on the Playstation 3?

hmm, let's see...um, 0 each. that's a whole lotta nothin'

Infinity Ward, Naughty Dog, and Insomniac at least *HAVE some actual PS3 development experience, so i'll take their word over Carmack and Newell anyday. especially considering that Newell is one of the most obnoxious PC-hugging fanboys i've ever seen (and i *LIKE PC gaming for the most part).

the PS2 was difficult to develop for also. didn't stop games like MGS2-3, God of War 1 and 2, and a *SLEW of other games from rocking. history dictates that it takes time to come to grips with new technology. as the technology becomes more elaborate, the longer the learning curve for getting a handle on it.

we are at the stage now, nearly 12 months into the Playstation 3's life cycle, where developers who were brave enough to take a stab at early PS3 development, have learned how to work with the machine, whereas developers that were wishy washy, afraid to try a new way of thinking, will probably continue to have problems with the system, and complain about it.

either they will shut up, and learn the console, or they'll continue to b*tch and moan, or pull out of development.

the way i feel, if they aren't even going to put in the effort to learn the consoles intricacies, then i don't think i should put in the effort to play their game. i'm not paying $60 a pop for a half-@ssed job. i'm not saying my library is flawless, and i have a fair share of weak games for my PS3 (ie, Lair), but i have plenty more where there was obvious love and heart put into the product (like Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank Future, Folklore, and soon Uncharted and Assassin's Creed).

unlike last generation, however, i'm a lot more judicial about where my money is going. i know game development isn't easy; i've *WORKED in the gaming industry for over 3 years, and i know how hard it is. but there is a time to b*tch and moan, and there is a time to roll up your sleeves and get to work. i'm glad Infinity Ward, and quite a few others (Kojima Productions, Team Ninja, Insomniac and Naughty Dog, Ubisoft, to name a few), have decided that the investment was worth it, and bothered to learn the PS3. it's a good machine, and is capable of some pretty fantastic stuff. and PS3 owners deserve some quality software, considering the investment we've plunked down on the machine.

fortunately, there is plenty of software that is looking *FANTASTIC, and that's already out that's fantastic, so, personally, i'm not disappointed with my purchase at all.

What about that loser who used to work at Harmonix and attacked Sony on his dumb blog? Talk about idiots, he's a big one. He sure looks foolish now. I think I'll have to find his blog again and post this article on it for him.

the developers get used to making games on it and when that happens it's a wrap ....there going to start making some crazy games on it...this is good for gamers like myself

no one could said better. bubble 4 ya'

Sevir046167d ago

thats why we got games on time from Team ninja. and COD4 devs Infinity ward. i will support them to the end because they rock. awesome devs deserve our money.

jaaz6167d ago

and comments like this from the developers will finally shut-up the lazy developers who whine that the PS3 is harder to develop for.

Will be interesting to see what sort of numbers GP users draw in come tomorrow. It is believed that this is one many have been waiting for.

Darth,

That is not accurate; this game is old, and most people who want it have already bought it. You might get a small number of subs, but we will mostly see a good influx of players(not new subs) from people with Game Pass who will try it, which is what happened with D4.

CoD: BO 6 will be the test for actual sub numbers.

darthv7263d ago

That's fair... seeing as many have been saying they want CoD in GP. My comment was more of , now that its here... what can it do. Im sure there will be other titles in the franchise that will either entice or turn off different users.

Bathyj63d ago

No one's buying a console and signing up for a monthly bill just to get this game to avoid buying it. That's ridiculous. Besides everyone bagged the crap out of this on release for the 4 hour campaign.

andy8563d ago

Sweet. Never got round to it on release. I'll give the campaign a go

Severly underrated game. Big improvement over 2.

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.
