The report also notes GameStop executives projecting growth over the next three years with $500 million in sales projected for 2011, and that the firm expects to pull “a meaningful share from market leader Steam” with the recent re-launch of its Impulse service it acquired back in March. A gamer tried to sell his PS4 Pro to GameStop USA and found out that he would actually have to pay the store.
I stopped going to GameStop when they no longer let me use my monthly $5 rewards points towards PS network cards.
Weird I live in Canada and the Gamestop near me says you need the console, controller, controller cord, and an HDMI cord before they will take a console on trade. And if the console shows signs of being opened they still won't take the machine. And if you upgrade the PS4 HDD from 500 gig to a 1TB they will count that machine as modified and label it as a 500 gig model. Better to just sell it on Facebook Marketplace.
GameStop has announced plans to shut down stores across the country after closing 300 locations just last year.
The popular gaming retailer says net sales have fallen 20 percent, now sitting at $860 million - a drastic change from its $1.08 billion in 2023.
Also giving you about $5.00 off for buying a used game is just bullshit. For example: https://www.gamestop.com/vi... New is $59.99, if your going to sell it for a used price it needs to be at least $10-$20 less. I hope GameStop just goes away.
Not surprising, but sad. WooT is killing it with their game discounts...on new games.
This is just market forces adjusting for GameStop’s long-time practices of nickel and diming the consumer. I feel bad for the workers though. It’s not good that they have to lose their jobs over this.
Not too surprising. Lots of people buying digital.
And GameStops trade in and resale pricing strategy is awful for customers. I will miss them when they are gone though.
Most I will miss being able to trade in a console, get a couple hundred towards the new model like PS5 to PS5 Pro.
GameStop is one of the last remaining relics from a bygone era where stores like Blockbuster, Game Crazy, Hollywood Video, and many others were found on every corner. If you…
So by 2014 Steam will be $4 Billion?
Steam may miss out on BF3 but Valve's line up can easily make up for a few titles that other publishers keep off of Steam.
.
I guess game stop didn't hear that Blu-ray is the future. I heard through the grapevine Sony has another disc with even more space...O_o
Seriously...just more confirmation that DD is slowly but surely taking over. Blockbuster under bankruptcy protection and HMV selling their stores for peanuts are other, some what disturbing signs that the end is near for physical media.
It's not what I want but the industry has decided it's in our best interest. I was at EB the other day, they don't even have any of the older games anymore. I ask the guy why and he was like, it's discontinued...O_o...I didn't know they discontinued USED games...they are trying to bury the games folks...buy them on line instead, they are there forever...need a play pass, we sell them for $9.99...0_o...you want to bet that games that need a play pass will be stocked forever. :/
This article tells me that EB/gamestop is working with the industry to get rid of the older games and force everyone to adopt the new standard.
I suspect that we will be able to buy a PIRATED 250-500 gb hard drive with all these games downloaded on them very soon and then they will realize, much like the music industry, that the old way was better. How about all the games from 2005 till 2011 on one hard drive for $150...it's coming and they have no one to blame but them selves...see how convenient and easy it is to swap HD's...lol
People will buy COD to keep the kids happy on line and on the second console, run all the pirated stuff. Well done guys, greed killed the goose that lays the golden egg.
Who even uses gamestop's online download crap. I'd much rather support ea, and steam then this monopoly of a gaming retailer. Gamestop is too greedy to even give good deals on game from the blue. All they can do is copy their competitor's deals. Amazon, Best Buy, and Kmart always have the best deals when it comes to gaming. At black friday best buy and amazon have great bundles while gamestop bundles crap and just uses bf to get rid of their crap stock. Gamestop will definitely lose in the digital dept ;)
I find it ironic that gamestop, a company solely dedicated to the sale of video games, is fiercely hated by the core gaming community and is thought of as a cancer of the gaming industry.
I wonder how many quality games developer could have made with this kind of revenue but we will never know cause when selling used or buying used the developers dont see a dime.
