Call of Duty 4 Near Identical on PS3 and Xbox 360

According to many highly credible sources who have already got their hands on both PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty 4, the news is that they are nearly identical. PS3 owners have no fear though as yesterday PCN was able to confirm that Call of Duty 4 will run on 1080p on the PS3, and we can now pretty safely say that the game will run just as good, if not even a little better on the PS3 than on the Xbox 360.

Many gamers were worried that Call of Duty 4 would not run as well on the PS3 as on the Xbox 360. A lot of this was due to fears learned from the past with EA Sports games having framerate problems, games such as Madden NFL 2008.

Many reviews have been pouring out left and right for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of one of the most highly-anticipated shooters of the year. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a trip away from World War II for the franchise, as it moves forward in time to modern-day war.

I haven't been worried about the PS3 version ever since I found out it wasn't a port.Framerate problems stem from porting.Both versions 720p(native) at 60fps.Nothing wrong with that.

Maybe people in the US or other places can't take a joke due to upbringning and society. You there are judging him by calling him a racist. What does that make you? I would take the "Fanboy" sites such as Xbox360fanboy.com a hell of a lot more seriously than xbox kings and SDF because in actual fact they are probably the most honest sites you'll find. That includes PS3 fanboy, Wii fanboy, PSP fanboy and DS fanboy. The "Fanboy" part of their collective banners is actually one of irony, its a joke.

These sites will have the odd dig from time to time at each other, but its in jest and they all regularly mention such japery to liven things up, but at the end of the day they review games and news honestly. I don't care what console you use or if your just watching a movie there is definitely a big difference between 1080i and 1080p. 1080i displays only 540 lines of resolution a frame two frames are interlaced to make a picture but this causing blurring during fast motion and the resolution is technically half that of 1080p. 720p is harder to discern from 1080p because now we have 720 lines of resolution versus 1080 thats a little closer but as u get into bigger screens its very apparent. But even on smaller screens higher resolutions are better thats why pc gamers are always screaming about one of they're advantages since the get higher resolutions on the smaller monitors.

If the PS3 is confirmed 1080 and the 360 version is not then I would be inclined to say that this is a huge win for PS3. All those claims of small memory crippling the PS3 can be throw out the window no? From what I know, for an image to be 1080p you need higher res textures. This eats up alot more memory. If the PS3 can run this game at 1080p consider me convinced that the PS3 is at least twice as powerfull than the 360.

I'm looking at the back of my COD4 case (360 version) and it says "HDTV 720p/1080i/1080p" as well as the the 360 HDTV settings accept 1080p.

No matter which platform, I think the game looks identical. I can't tell a difference unless we pulled out a microscope and analyzed the sh*t out of it. It's a great game and a must buy for anybody who enjoys FPS's. Take the game for face value and enjoy it no matter which platform.

The 360 version is 480p, 720p, 1080i, I did read somewhere else that the Xbox 360 version max resolution was only 720p. Most likely Xbox 360 upscales the game to 1080p. For example Gears of War clearly states on the back of the box max resolution 1080i, but the game plays in 1080p, because of the Xbox upscales the games. Now I have also done some testing on the PS3,and there is no upscaling, actually it would downscale the game. For example the Max resolution for Warhawk is 1080i, and unless you customize you video setting through your PS3 to only display 1080i - 1080p the game will downscale to 720p. Thats a good thing that the PS3 doesn't upscale, at least you know the native resolution for the game. If the games players in 1080p then the PS3 is the superior version, and they are not identical. lazy reviews for this game, too many copy and paste.

Well, I'm buying myself a PS3 this Christmas so I'll have to rent it and compare for myself. I've seen High Def Screenshots of COD4 from the PS3 version and to tell ya the truth, they look identical if not slightly better on my TV/360 (due to PC monitor inferior to my HDTV, and my LCD monitor is no slouch either). So if you haven't played the game and thought those PS3 screenshots were amazing, try it on a console with a kick ass TV and surround sound. That's about as honest as I can get.

For the record, I am using an Elite 360 with HDMI to compare the screens. Perhaps that makes a difference... I don't know.

With Streaming texures..you do not have memory problems...you just cache your textures on the harddrive from the Bluray Disc and stream them to the Cell\GPU.....they are using a very good stream texuture engine in this game...just like in Ratchet.....and they got it to work at 1080p native....at 60 frames per second!

There are no native 1080p Xbox 360 games...but maybe this is the first one? The Xbox 360 supports good upscalling on 720p games to 1080p.

So if the PS3 version is not 1080p native then it is 720p native with good upscalling to 1080p just as good as the Xbox 360...somebody needs to prove it...but I saw people uncheck everything but 1080p in the display settings of the PS3 and it ran and native 1080p....man this is awesome. I have to get this game....and then upgrade my TV to a 1080p.

Also people keep saying 1080p Tvs are expensive...but they are not...you can get a Sony 1080p KDS-60A3000 rear projection 60 inch for around $2000 or less...its $2199 on the sony style store...There are 1080p projectors that are around $2200 that will project to 100 inches!...There are 52 inch LCD KDL-52W3000 for less than $3000...

Sony and Samsung are the best in quality and lead the market for LCD tech. The Sony is a little more expensive, but guess what? Samsung makes the internal parts for Sony. So essentially, Sony Bravia series have the same exact parts under the hood as Samsung LCD’s but Samsung offers a few more features such as 'game mode'. This is why the picture quality on both are indistinguishable. What it boils down is appearance. I personally prefer the shiny black exterior of the Samsung over Sony’s run-of-the-mill look. But either way, Samsung and Sony are known to have the best tech for LCD.

I know this is off-topic and I apologize. I 'm not saying the Bravia is worse in quality than the Samsung LCD... In fact, the picture quality is identical because Samsung makes the parts for Sony. However, as you mentioned the navigation and set-up on the Bravia is better, yet you only need to go through that one time when you first buy your TV and then never need it again once it's set-up. I mean, I don't even use my TV remote but other universal controllers and component remotes seem to take over. You only need to set-up each TV setting per input and the Samsung remembers the settings on each input. The trade of is a less expensive Samsung with the same quality and better looking exterior (exactly the same shiny exterior material as the PS3). But, whateva suits your fancy. Personally, the Samsung is a better deal.

I know... I know.. some fanboy will pop and say I don't care about that... but lots of people do and more is more no matter how you put it... Reviewers are afraid that they will burn of they include in their review the following facts.

Xbox 360 has:
- Achivements.
- Know which one of your friends is playing the game.
- Be able to join a game session your friend is playing.
- Invite friend to join your game session.
- Voice chat even before you enter the game.

Do any of those count? They do add to the game experience and therefore should be added to the equation.. since they are more important than 1 or 2 more pixels in the screen... it seems to be that we are having the same problem we have with wii reviews... there are different standards when reviewing the games.. if the PS3 does not have a feature or element then the element or feature is completely ignored... someone desiding if they are buying a console due to this game.. have the right to know the differences.

that I saw giving the ps3 the higher rating it did give the 360 the online/multi player higher score just ps3 got higher on graphics and controls or something (not me the site). Until I play the game on both I won't know how I feel both are said to have all the same online features like voice chat etc so maybe not having access to your friends list during the game wasn't enough to make other sites give the box the nod or maybe the ps3 leverage it out in some other asset I don't know niether do most people but i will find out tonight

Am i the only one who is thrilled that the ps3 version is only slightly better? I'm a proud 360 owner and when the ps3 was announced and up until now it was supposed to blow the 360 out of the water. just to clear things up..there is not a huge leap between 720p and 1080p..i have a 1080p lcd tv,and though i can tell the difference between 1080p and 720p,its only a slight differebce,because 720p looks so good already...the jump between 480I and 720p is huge though..also to the naked eye theres not a huge differnce bewteen 1080i and 1080p..at least not in gaming,though with movies there are huge differences..most games just need to run at 720p native and theyll look great..1080p is more for movies than anything else....for the record the 360 version runs at 720p as does the ps3 version...they both upscale to 1080p.

NEVELO what im telling you as fact is annimations dont take up a lot of space on a disc ok...theres no argument as its fact..again a game like madden football has far more realistic animations than uncharted..the cgi used in final fantasy and other eastern rpgs takes up disc space...uncharted would not only fit on a dvd9 disc,but would also look better on the 360// p.s another thing that takes up space is an epic 50 hour adventure game,where you could explore vast planets,and if you could see it you could explore it level designs,much like mass effect..mass effect is on one single dvd9 disc,much like every pc game ever made

truth of the matter is that first gen ps3 games are looking loads better than 2nd gen 360 games both visually and audiowise. Lets not also forget the technical achievements.
If the 360 is so capable why havent they even touched these areas? Eye of judgement/uncharted/little big planet/soo on and so forth.

Seems like they made well on the hype and the game looks good on both platforms. Great going. I will get this one as well.... Seems like quite a bit of must have titles for the PS3 this year: R&C, Uncharted, HS, COD, EOJ, Singstar, GT:Prologue... they really are making a move on our wallets for this season...

Always had love for IW since CoD2. But then CoD3 came out, dev'd by a diff one and it sucked IMO (except SP).

I knew CoD4 would rock, being dev'd by IW. Played the Beta non-stop. I just want this game right now. But I've got no spare $$ (college).

Jazzman-go play Gears of War right now and look at any object that is more than about 8 feet away from your character. Look at how BLURRY that object is. Everything that is not right by your character in Gears is so BLURRY that you can't even see it! Are really, really blurry backgrounds and example of great graphics? No. No, not at all. The draw distance in Gears is crap. Garbage. Ratchet and Clank has better graphics than gears. Uncharted looks like it has better graphics than gears. Gears is the best the 360 can do, and it is already obsolete. Open your eyes.

After looking at IGN videos of both systems, I have to say the 360 version is better because of textures. Looked very closley when download the videos, the PS3 version textures are more blurry. The PS3 version did have better light source effects, but lesser texture resolution.

in case you guys didn't know,

ps3 = will rumble after a week( you can order it from japan )
ps3 = can sixaxis
ps3 = bluraydisc player
ps3 = can bluetooth and wifi
ps3 = is now a little better than x-box multiplatform games( compare call of duty 3 version againts the call of duty 4 version a big improvement)
ps3 = can only get better from this point( just not on EA games they have lazy programmers)

how about your xbox 360 lets see,
xbox 360 = have reached their maximum potential(just look at halo 3 at 640p 5 hours of gameplay 3 years in the making)
xbox 360 = can rumble( ps3 can rumble too. soon)

i have both versions of the game and i find myself playing them both equally. they are both great, however i have noticed points of major lag every once in a while online on the 360 and zero to hardly any lag on the ps3, and the problem isnt my internet connection.

It has now been 100% confirmed that the Playstation 3 version of Call of Duty 4 has a Native Resolution of only 720p.

Gamespot has confirmed that resolution higher than 720p is NEVER output from the Playstation 3 version of Call of Duty 4.

The Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 4 has a Native Resolution of 720p, but the “hardware upconversion” chip allows the Xbox 360 to output over twice as many pixels in resolution up to 1080p.

The reason why people thought that the PS3 version had a Native Resolution of 1080p is because the COD4 says that the game is compatible with 1080p resolutions on the back of the box. But 1080p is definitely NOT the Native Resolution of the game.

In fact, the highest resolution that can possibly be output from the PS3 version of Call of Duty 4 is 720p. The Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 4 is capable of outputting a resolution of 1080p.

What this means is that if you have a 1080p HDTV set, then you will see the PS3 version of the game at 720p resolution without being forced to modify your PS3 Resolution Output settings in a time consuming and annoying way, like you would with games such as the PS3 version of Rainbow Six: Vegas.

With the PS3 version of Rainbow Six: Vegas, the game claimed to support resolution higher than 720p, but it was always better to see the game in 720p. Unfortunately, you needed to change your resolution setting every time you played the game in order to do this properly. IGN talks about this in great detail. Call of Duty 4 has some type of software program that does not force you to change your resolution settings each time you play the game...that is likely the reason why they list "1080p" on the back of the box. But, 1080p resolution is NEVER output from the PS3 version of Call of Duty 4.

So, what this means is that if you have your PS3 output set to 1080p resolution, then your Menu screens will be in 1080p, and so will your Blu-ray movies, and the small number of PS3 games that support 1080p. But, the instant you start playing Call of Duty 4, the Resolution Output will Automatically change to 720p mode.

Now that the game has been released, this has been 100% proven: The PS3 version of Call of Duty 4 does NOT output 1080p resolution in any form--not Native, and not Upconverted.

What's worse for the Playstation 3 version of Call of Duty 4 is something that has now been 100% confirmed: If you have an HDTV set that has a Native Resolution of 1080i, then the game will actually be Downconverted to 480p resolution. Sony tried to solve this problem with one of their firmware updates, but the problem did not disappear. This means that if you own a Picture Tube or CRT Projection HDTV with a Native Resolution of 1080i, then you will have paid $60 for a high-definition PS3 game, but you will NOT be seeing the game in high-resolution over 480p.

I thought Playstation 3 owners would want to know about this before they considered buying the Playstation 3 version of Call of Duty 4. Before the game was released, there were a lot of rumors being spread on the Internet about the PS3 version of Call of Duty 4. But now that Call of Duty 4 has been released, we are dealing with FACTS.

Sadly, Call of Duty 4 has disappointed a lot of PS3 "fanboys" because the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 4 does technically outperform the Playstation 3 version.

The Xbox 360 has three fundamental advantages:

(1) Resolution that is compatible with ALL HDTV sets. The Resolution can even be output as high as 1080p, which is over twice as many pixels as the PS3 version can possibly display.

(2) RUMBLE in the Xbox 360 controller. Being able to FEEEEEL the Guns being shot in a First Person Shooting game adds a LOT of FUN to the game! The Xbox 360 has that advantage RIGHT NOW!!! Any fan of Call of Duty 4 is NOT going to want to wait until the spring of 2008 for the PS3 controller that can rumble to be released as an accessory that needs to be purchased.

(3) Online performance. The Xbox 360 has superior online performance.

you are wrong as far as i can tell because when i go to my TVs MENU, not the PS3 display setting menu, but the TV MENU it says the resolution that is being displayed is 1920x1080.
