Nintendo official update on Operation Rainfall: never, never, but maybe

Just caught wind of this on Nintendo's official Facebook page:

Thank you for your enthusiasm. We promised an update, so here it is. We never say “never,” but we can confirm that there are no plans to bring these three games to the Americas at this time. Thanks so much for your passion, and for being such great fans!

Wow did anyone of you guys read the comments in the article. Some of those guys only owned a wii this generation. Wow they are missing out on so much. Anyway Nintendo needs to see if these game sell well. There isn't exactly a hardcore market on the wii and i don't blame them for not bringing it to america.

Anyways. There's such a minimal hardcore market on the wii because "Nintendo" was the one who pushed for that market. To release those games would create a market that doesn't line-up with their casual trash. I mean seriously? Have any of thsoe CEO's ever walked into the Wii section at a Gamestop? Ugh.

the Wii doesnt have a hardcore market and lacks third party support. she/he is right dude. ill admit flaws/faults about the ps3 so you guys need to admit them for the wii as well.

another thing too many wii games do not get imported to the U.S because either the demand for it is small or non-existing. only known franchises and fitness wii games sell outside of Japan

There are ways around limited demand. The easiest is a limited publication. Atlas does it all the time, in fact every time.

The best and most practical way is by pre-order only.

At this point it isn't about whether or not it can sell or not. I'm sure they can localize at the very least one of the three titles and not hurt their bottom line that much considering their already getting localized for europe ( in terms of zenoblade and last story ) and the fact that they've a ton of money this gen. Nintendo says it wants to get core gamers back with the wii u. If want to show that, they should start by filling an currently abysmal lineup with the only games to play being zelda and kirby. At this point in the wii's lineup, this is about given a token of gratitude to your existing fans that are left whom bought the system.

These so called journalists might want to investigate and find out whether Nintendo of America has the licensing to publish them in America before going on a goddamn crusade.

Believe it or not, just because you publish a game in Japan doesn't mean you automatically can do it in North America.

That's why Demon's Soul was published by Sony in Japan, Atlus in America and Namco Bandai in Europe.

It's not even asking for common sense, it's asking for goddamn investigative journalism.

Well it seems to me that nobody has the publishing rights in North America, but Nintendo did previously announce that they were publishing it in North America. If something had fallen through, at the very least, NoA would know about it.

In videogame publishing, if a game is published by a different company elsewhere in the world, it's usually not because that publisher didn't have the rights, but because that publisher didn't want to publish it / didn't think it would sell enough in that country to be worth it, and gave the rights for that country to another publisher that made an offer. Atlus publishes a lot of games in the US that the original publishers had no interest in doing.

The difference with these three Nintendo games is that Nintendo doesn't typically let other publishers like Atlus publish their games in the US...so it's either Nintendo Of America who does it, or we don't get the games period.

Will it be coming to Europe?, Well I feel bad for you guys in the US Nintendo hasn't been treating you well when it comes to localisation. You cant blame them to much though a lot of people shun and bad mouth these games it was bound to happen eventually, Anyway I hope you guys do get these games.

they're only hurting themselves, these are games that i would have bought my wii back for. i would be more than happy to support the last story and xenoblade developers, but i wont loose any sleep at night pirating if they wont make the effort to bring the games to me

ive waited about 6 months for na localization info, times up. im just gonna play the game.

would definitely have preferred to play in english but ill take it as an opportunity to learn more japanese

its coming to Europe, I suggest you wait till then an IMPORT the game, show some support for what NoE is doing.

so i already knew the answer to this question but i decided to check again to make sure i was right:

if i were to import a 40 euro game to where i live i would end up paying over 100 usd (a lot more if i wanted it to arrive within a reasonable amount of time). not only that, but wii is region locked, to even play it i would have to import a wii as well as the game. i would still be able to play a pirated copy, but i wouldnt get the english version, which is what i want.

dont get me wrong, if i like the game afterwards and they do end up localizing it ill buy it, but ive already waited 6 months, its summer, im bored and im gonna be playing TLS tonight one way or another.

im voting with my money: if nintendo wants my money, they'll localize the game

I was planning to get the Wii U as soon as it came out because I always get all new consoles immediately. This makes me reconsider. If Nintendo is unwilling to bring the good games to North America I guess I won't really need one. It will be the first "wait and see" for me.

I agree. I regret buying my 3ds at launch. there is nothing to play, and it doesn't look like there will be anything to play until winter or next year.

Nintendo said they want to draw in everybody with the wiiu, but with the lack of support for the wii has me questioning, will the wiiu go down the same road?

I know most people say, these are obscure Japaneses RPGs that will sell like crap in America, and most people supporting it, won't buy it. That maybe true, but if the game is already going to be in english, why not just bring it over anyway?

as for the wiiu, I won't be buying one, until smash bros comes out, so that wouldn't be until 2013-2015. although, i will be monitoring the wiiu & its games, and other features too closely.

i think an easy way to get these games localize is to boycott skyward sword. that would really hurt them if there big holiday release is boycotted and they would have no choice but to localize them
