DICE: Battlefield 3 Is Not A Modern Warfare 3 Copycat

While EA, the owner of Battlefield developer DICE have been pitching Battlefield 3 as a direct competitor of Modern Warfare 3, the studio’s Executive Producer Patrick Bach has made it clear that although their game is very competitive in the FPS genre, Battlefield 3 is not a Modern Warfare 3 copycat.

BF3 has been in development since before COD4 came out. BF2 did modern combat before Call of Duty did.

If anyone thinks BF3 is a rip off of MW3, or any Call of Duty game, they are seriously stupid.

Couldn't agree more Panda. People always claim Battlefield rips off of Call of Duty. Little do they know, the Battlefield Franchise started before the Call of Duty Franchise did. Only difference, is that COD pushes out a new copy of a game every year, while Battlefield sends one ever year and a half, to two years or even more.

There have been a lot of common sense or "well duh" articles about BF3 lately.

BF3 won't be in 60fps,
Console versions won't look as good as the PC version,
BF3 will have store specific dlc,

and now BF3 is not Modern Warfare. Maybe I should start a site and write an article. "BF3 won't have kill streaks but does have vehicles."

It seems like there's an article stirring up something negative about Battlefield 3 everyday. Would people just get off of it already? seeing how Battlefield 1942 came out in 2002 and Call of Duty 1 came out in 2003. Technically Codename Eagle (made by DICE) was the foundation for the Battlefield series as it was a FPS with vehicles and it came out in 1999.

What bugs and glitches are in Black Ops? IW didn't patch anything in MW2 until over 50% of the community was doing it and it still took them months. Care package glitch, javlin glitch, care package running.. Etc. And they never bothered balancing any perks or weapons. Black ops is patched frequently and I can't think of a single glitch that I've seen.

Also why are EA and Dice always talking about COD and MW3 yet you almost never hear IW 3arc or Activision mention them.

Also the COD development-cycle is longer. You have 2 studios who release 1 game each every 2 years.

Since 2008 DICE has released BFBC, BFBC2, BF 1943, BF Heroes, and they did the online for MoH and are releasing BF3 this year. In that same time frame IW has only release MW2 and MW3 will be out this year. Treyarch release W@W and Blops and I'll assume were a year off from their next COD. So clearly battle field has the shorter development cycle.

They also put their game in a modern warfare setting first. They brought out a WW2 rip off after 1942 came out. Seems like those COD guys have been copying Dice for years. Dice makes a WW2 game they make a WW2 game. Dice moves to a modern shooter with unlockables they move to a modern shooter with unlockables. They seem like a bunch of banana riders to me.

At least they got some rise out of Activision as they actually seem somewhat defensive over their game. Now is the best time for Activision to fight back but I wont be surprised if they get by without dedicated servers yet again.

I'm just glad that while the game is very different that there is some form of competition. Whether that results in Activision seeing losses is another story. I sincerely doubt that COD is going to recede in sales. Black Ops is not the main franchise yet sold upwards of 15 million. MW3 is bound to top that even with BF3 in the picture.

EA and Battlefield's goals are not to outsell Call of Duty. They know it is hard for them to do so. Their main goal is to make a higher quality game and make the best game possible. They want to take a "piece" out of the Cod franchise and make people realize through word of mouth that Battlefield is the better game. They want to take them down a "notch".

I didn't see that. But if you click the link i posted in my last comment, it shows what the CEO of EA had said. I'm sure they would like it. Eventually in the long run I think it will outsell. If the game lasts as long as BF2 had and still does, then the game will continue to sell for 6-7 years.

Battlefield is one of the original war shooters with Battlefield 1942 on the PC. Their are a lot of COD clones out there and Battlefield isn't one of them.

No Dice is the king and the Cod guys are the copy cats. They have been riding Dice's coat tails everysince they were both back at EA. Infinity ward does really seem to be Dice's treyarch, little brothers thats always copying big brother. BF 1942 came out first then infinity ward realeased CoD, BF2 comes out in modern times with lvling and unlocks, then COD 4 comes out after that. Their always right behind dice following their lead they need to come up with their own ideas.

With that ancient engine lol good one, only 2 series, well 3 the bc games, do any relevant destruction in their games, red factions by volition and bf/bc by dice.

Those devs have had yrs to refine their engine/engines to allow for as much destructible environments as the code will support.

Cod can't just add in destruction to the games like bf or red faction implements their, vehicles and destruction, yeah expect waw's tank section destroying enemies far away, or was it cod 3.

Too many cods the series needs a yr or 2 vacation.

No, it isnt a copycat, but i invite all of you to take a closer look where this claim comes from. It comes from a complex, a standard that the COD franchise has created following the success of COD4, a standard that very few games have come close to rivaling. Now although BF3 is essentially a different game reminiscent of Bad Company and other BF games with regards to its gameplay and structure, it is without doubt like all games these days influenced by COD. THIS IS A FACT, DICE knows it because unlike the COD haters around these comment sections these days, acknowledge that the COD franchise is quite possibly the most successful video game ever BECAUSE its formula: get in, have fun (playing on a massive scale, amount of features and customization and production values), get out. This is something all developers these days aim for, obviously going about it in their own way but COD (although like any other franchise rises and declines) is in fact a standard.
