I say balls hanging in the wind
Why not do both? Self financed is cool, and Im sure Sony will like it as long as it supports their hardware.
However you know they will press you to do the bigger project. Bigger name, means more sales, and a better image. No thats not what everyone wants, but its what the business man wants.
So you could have the Eat Sleep Play studio working on that project and you over see it, then also work on the self financed project. You can even use leverage on the bigger title to sell the smaller title.
He should just cut his own head off win win.
