Battlefield 3: Does it really matter which platform you play it on?

It clearly doesnt console to console, but if you want the true battlefield experience you need to get in on PC. The PC version is miles better then PS3/Xbox. 64 players, dedi servers, full stat tracking, support, instant patching etc. Too bad i need to make a new PC to run it.

Well not only is the PC version superior, its also got the most mature crowd. PC gamers tend to work together unlike the kids on console, which actually makes the experience all the better.

This article makes two mistakes:
1) The texture quality of that BF3 screenshot is clearly below that in the Killzone 3/Uncharted 3 screens. No cross-platformer on the PS3 will ever look as good as a game programmed specifically with the PS3 hardware in mind, and this won't be an exception. It will look good. It won't look UC3 good.
2) He implies that resolution (1080p vs. 720p) and framerate are the only graphical advantage to the PC version. I *highly* doubt this. The PC will likely have better textures, lighting, and animation.

I am super excited for this game, but both sides of this graphics argument are going off the rails. Did DICE mislead some gamers if only by their relative silence on the console version (until the unveil last week)? Yes. Does the PC version look better? Yes. Will the console version be the best looking console game ever? No. Will it look bad? No. Will it be the best looking cross-platformer? Probably.

And the most important question: will the game be awesome on all platforms? YES.

Two benefits consoles have that is generally overlooked:
1) Less hackers, and no need for gimpy solutions like Punkbuster. I've yet to run into any BFBC2 hackers on PSN.
2) Having a uniform control scheme and uniform hardware helps level the playing field.

I'm not denying the PC benefits. Just saying consoles do have some of their own. And while the mouse is indeed more accurate, when everyone has the same controls, you don't notice it (well I don't anyway).

Did you watch E3? They announced they will be releasing a BETA FOR ALL PLATFORMS in September :) This, on the kimmy fallon show was pre-alpha footage remember. If you've got the money get it on pc (need money for right pc, powerful enough to run it) and also I prefer playing with analoge sticks (ps3 pad) and not mouse - personal preference ...

I buy ALL multi-plats on 360...learned that lesson a long time ago. Best controller by far, best on-line and best OS...no comparison. The PS3 has a nice selection this year with Resistance being the one game that will be day one.

In regards to all the talk about graphics up above, Crysis 2 will be tough to beat on consoles this year. Gears 3 also looks incredible. I don`t want anymore excuses from Dice, I don`t see how their game will be able to top this...

Even if the ps3 version was the best looking version I would still play on pc!

I find that it's more immersive to aim a virtual gun with my right arm rather than with my right thumb..

For BF3 it would be better if you did it on PC (if you have it or plan on having one). I mean, you will still have a lot of fun on console, but nothing beats that feeling when you have two good 32-player teams facing off.

People naturally make a front line with medics running back and forth, bullets and rockets wiz by your head as you try to find cover, jets fly by attacking tanks in the back of the front as they fire on the other team, grenades blast all around you, pushes are made and then repelled, etc.

It's why I'm such a big BF fan...

Sure COd is twitch gaming while BF3 is total team war so some may not like the style, that's OK but give DICE a try, you won't be disappointed as DICE is about quality unlike Activision.

It doesn't matter what platform you play it on. You play on whatever you prefer whether it be 360, PS3, or PC. I personally play whatever I think my friends will be playing the game the most on. Sadly with most FPS it is never PC. I usually have a toss up between 360 and PS3 on what platform I will play FPS games on. That really depends on my mood at the time of release. With Battlefield I usually go with the PS3 version because I have friends that I have playing it with for a long time now.

While the PC is indeed more powerful, that has got to be the silliest argument on this site. If someone doesn't have and/or want a gaming PC and is happy with the PS3, then are they not getting exactly what he wants?

I for one, could afford a gaming PC....

A) I don't really care about marginal changes in visuals or player count.

B) I love gaming, but I also love to play lifting, have a lady, and have a real job. All these things take away from time I would spend gaming.

I could say that everyone who is driving, say a Civic is limiting themselves because they don't buy and Infinity Coupe and that they are silly for not buying Infinity. I think everyone can agree that this statement is invalid.

The differences between the PS3 and PC might not be big enough to justify building a whole new PC just to play this game or a handful of others with setting turned to MAX.

People who buy consoles buy them because you know what you are getting for the next 5-10 years. PC gamers like to upgrade and make those marginal changes to get more performance here or there. One isn't better than the other; it's a personal choice.

I like upgrading my car every 2 to 3 years, does that make me any better than a person who keeps their car for 5 to 10 years stock, or is it that I have chosen to use my money differently?

I for one have better things to do with my time than worry about player count, and pixels when I play a game. The game is fun, it's fun, end of story.

It's not like I'm going to miss some critical plot twist because I played this game on the PS3. BF3 will be cool, so will Starhawk and Uncharted 3. These are great supplements to my online BF3 experience on the PS3. I guess I will just use the money I saved building a "BeastlyRig" to buy all the other PS3 offerings this year.

I think PS3 owners will be fine missing out on 64 players, 1080p and 60fps. Enjoy tho.

How many PS3/360 do you have? You do realize a new Xbox is coming in 2012. so lets say you have bought two 360's well that's $600 and when the new one comes out you get that one $400. well that's $1000.

One thing to think about though is it is WAY easier to find a BC2 game these days on PC as all the times I've tried my 360 version, it was like 6v6 for about 3 weeks now. It's an important thing to think about but other than player count, I'm not sure how much you're missing out if you can't/don't want to play this on PC.

I've got a console and PC debate going on with myself as I could play the PC version on Medium easily but I'm not sure I want to have fun on the computer after spending all day at work on it....might want my big tv and recliner. Personally, I think this decision is gonna go down to the wire.

PC will obviously always be superior in many ways to consoles, but consoles has (technically) one critical advantage.

It's funny because THE caracteristic of PC gaming rigs and consoles that differentiates them is both their strenght and weakness.

PC doesn't have a static configuration while all the consoles are the same (for each platform). What does this mean? Well, PC can always evolve as each new component can make it stronger (most of the time the GPU). The consoles however once they are released can't have their core technical specs altered. While they could earn some new features like integrated WI-FI, main components like processors can't be changed with each new version.

The reason for this is that for each platform, devs are developing games for ONE specs. If the Xbox 360 slim or Elite had better tecs than the former Xbox 360, and developers were developing games for these new ones, the older Xbox wouldn't be able to run these games properly. This is at the same time an advantage for console games.

At the opposite, there isn't anything like one PC model with all the same configs. Each PC has different components, and worst, different combinations of components. If devs have to properly optimize for a very wide range of rigs, it would be (and it is) a nightmare compared to the simplicity of one spec for each console. Devs can do some crazy optimisation on console they couldn't even imagine on PC.

All these will remain true forever no matter how those two evolve.
