PS Vita and 3DS in Trouble: Onlive Brings Next Gen Gaming to the iPad

Onlive is stepping their game up to a whole new level by providing popular games on the Apple Ipad. If you remember Onlive from last year, their system is mostly comprised of computers doing all the hard rendering, while you play games comfortably from your PC. So in a nutshell, they’re bringing next gen gaming to people whose computers don’t meet the minimum requirements (Assassins Creed, Borderlands, and Crysis)...

With very laggy inputs and Youtube quality graphics for most people. No thank you.

bruddahmanmatt4716d ago

thegamefanatics.com must be desperate for hits. Obvious title for attention is obvious.

superadvanced4716d ago

touch screen only gaming will never rise. ever.

HappyGaming4716d ago

Exactly touch screen = casual games...

fr0sty4716d ago (Edited 4716d ago )

Plus, we all know how well hardcore games play on devices without buttons/joysticks...

Kamikaze1354716d ago

You can mount the iPad on something and use the OnLive controller. Did you really think you could play PC games without buttons? Just imagine how cluttered the screen would be with virtual buttons AND a HUD, lol.

HappyGaming4716d ago

If I have to carry around an iPad an iPad mount and an OnLive controller why not just carry around a cheap laptop and use online on that?

The graphics would be identical and I would have a full keyboard to use as a controller...

BISHOP-BRASIL4716d ago (Edited 4716d ago )

Not ot mention the awfully big screen for a "portable" device and no dedicated gaming interface (buttons).

EDIT: fr0sty beat me to it.

DrRichtofen4716d ago

How could it be comfortable playing on a tablet for hours? Plus with no buttons, analog sticks or triggers the Vita/3DS win in my book

b_one4716d ago

PPL want it free nothing more, they will accept gfx issues - same was with smartfone games...

Misterhbk4716d ago

But the games on onlive aren't free. And the choices aren't very good either. I'll stick with my 3DS and soon Vita

b_one4716d ago

@Misterhbk but you have to pay monthly and there is a choice i supose, as for choices, how long they exist?

CaptCalvin4716d ago

I think you'd actually have to buy the games full price, or a rental price to keep the game for a limited time. Just like real life, except you have to pay a subscription fee and that the game is not running on your hardware.

hiredhelp4716d ago

I own a ipad version 1.
i also play online and play SP on games on the ipad i got to say apple have not made o attempt to make a joypad for the ipad to go onto the screen.
even thoe you have onscreen touch display buttons its still nicer.
another issue is how heavy it is, if you play for more than 20 minutes ipad 1 tends to get pritty heavy. specially if you play some games that i do that you constantly moving the pad all directions.

but visually there not bad take a look at infinity blade a very good example of what can be done on the ipad when used correctly. but no you cant beat a proper handheld gaming device. but this wasnt actually just made for gaming.

ginsunuva4716d ago

You can hook up an onlive controller to it.

hiredhelp4716d ago

really can u . plz pm me about this dude cheers

Killzone3Helghast4716d ago (Edited 4716d ago )

Nope.. and people don't buy a $600 piece of appware for a gaming device anyways.

Constantly have to stream the game, laggy inputs, bad youtube like quality oh and no joysticks and touch control only.

So like I said, nope.

Spitfire_Riggz4716d ago

I just cant get past what happens if you pay for a good library of games then stop your subscription to OnLive. you are Royally (with a capital r) screwed.

Valk4716d ago

Onlive either sales you the full copy of the game or 3-7 day rentals along with a monthly few that offers most games for play. If you buy the game its yours. There is no monthly service fee just to be a member or access content you already paid for.

Malice-Flare4716d ago (Edited 4716d ago )

this mean less than people make it out to be...

Godmars2904716d ago (Edited 4716d ago )

Onlive isn't a self contained platform. And then there are other issues.
