No DVD Or Blu-ray For Wii U

The real puzzler here is how many generations behind does this makes the Wii U in terms of film playback as lest we forget that the original Xbox and Playstation 2 had these capabilities a full generation ago. Is the Wii U the eigth generation or the seventh plus a half?
