Didn't expect it to at all and dunno why it should anyway. Got my PS3 for Blu-ray playback, but will get the Wii U just for gaming, just as I did with the Wii. Blu-ray/DVD playback would be a nice finess, but certainly not vital IMO. Would just mean it would be more expensive.

Nintendo has lost their way. With the DS and the Wii, they talked about getting back to the roots of gaming and making videogames - not movies or TV shows - the center of the living room. That was less than a decade ago.

Now Nintendo has turned into a toddler in pull-ups shouting "I'm a big boy! Lookie me! I have multiplatform games that come a year after they hit the other consoles (Battlefield 3, Arkham City)! Imma big now, mommy!"

D0ffy4789d ago

How does that post have anything to do with Blu-ray playback? Isn't removing Blu-ray playback a sign of focusing on games (though I know Wii didn't have it either)?

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying here. If I'm not mistaken you're just trolling then.

dedicatedtogamers4789d ago

No, Nintendo is trying to be more multimedia focused these days, which is a departure from how they used to be.

Doesn't matter to me, I haven't bought a movie in years! I went from having over 500 dvd's to none and haven't looked back! Netflix all the way!

At least you are ensuring that your drive will have extra life by not over using it for multiple task.

gamingdroid4789d ago

I agree with you, I completely stopped buying dvd's a long time ago. Especially after netflix started streaming and since, I bought 2 Blu-Rays, both less than $10!

What concerns me more is that Nintendo is making their network too open without any standard requirement. That is essentially the strategy PSN (or lack of) had, thus not all games support trophies, less people with headset and a bunch of others (mostly minor) features....

oh really? then you will have no excuse for putting out an expensive price tag on this thing.

gamingdroid4789d ago

cough cough... they are going back to their roots

shikamaroooo4789d ago

They are cheapening the Wii U manufacturing costs

fossilfern4789d ago

I love how all the details of the system are coming after their press conference. The Wii U was badly presented at E3

Knushwood Butt4789d ago

"but I can speak generally about the direction that we are moving in.".

That sums up everything Nintendo has to say regarding the Wii U.

Lying about the power of the "Ultra 64" ..promising an arcade 1:1 port of Killer Instinct and later just having a super poor SNES port of the game + a very gimped version of Killer Instinct 2.

Didnt buy a Nintendo Console since the gamecube, didnt regret it.

darthv7215d ago

I'd say them opting to stick to carts for the N64 was probably their biggest blunder. Even more so than their back stabbing deal against Sony. It literally cost them their long time partnership with Square and the FF series. There was not a single FF (or DQ) title on the N64 when there had been ones on the NES and SNES. They came to their senses with the Cube and supported mini DVD so they at least got back into SE's good graces... but the damage was done and FF7 went on to be the biggest FF game and a huge win for PS.

Between the low sales, the shit in the memory that simply dies and the regional crash on the Gamepad. This is a console that will become stupidly rare in a few years.

Still got my black one fully working, I should maybe box that bad boy up lol

DarXyde19d ago

It's really funny to think about people harvesting Wii U parts like some organ trafficker and selling them on the dark web.

But sure enough, Nintendo Will probably try to find a way to put a legal bullet in the base of that person's skull.

Chocoburger19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Actually its the opposite, boxing it up is what will kill the machine. You want it plugged in, and you want to power it on frequently, that's how you'll extend the life of the memory chips. This brief video explains it.

nah...just their way of saying, just buy the Switch already, you pleb!

FinalFantasyFanatic19d ago

Unfortunately, there are a few games still stuck on that thing, I've been hoping they'd port Xenobalde Chronicles X and Twilight Princess over to the Switch since I didn't buy a WiiU.
