Gamers Protesting Battlefield 3 Due to DLC

Gamers begin to protest Battlefield 3 saying that EA is taking away from their game to offer exclusive pre-order DLC. Fans start to cancel their pre-orders.

Do these people realise that the "Limited Edition" that you can pre-order for is the same price of the normal edition and has had DLC announced for it (which could have easily just been put on the disk) for months? Although I do understand their frustration, but unfortunately this is what companies wish to do nowadays, just look at LA Noire.

It's the new incentive that EA is doing to increase sales. For example, Dead Space 2 (PS3), the standard edition is no longer called standard, but Limited Edition. It's not like these copies will sell out, it's just a way to make customers buy them.

I remember when they refused to give out DLC for the PC version and claimed that the content wouldn't be available. Not short after that, someone with a corrupted game save discovered that the DLC was ALREADY on the disc!

Now Bobby and Acti are going even further with Call of Duty Elite. Look at content and services you'd normally include in a game for free, take them out, slap a price on them then look for someone who will buy them.

That's what I think mostly everyone is going to do... Frankly, we should had ¨protested¨ to this take on DLC a long time ago, EA and DICE aren't the ones starting this trend and retailers today kind of demand this stuff to make the pre-orders sell...

It sucks, but there isn't a lot we can do about it... The best solution would be to not support chopped games by not buying it, but if you do that, you gonna miss on a lot of great games coming out this year... So it's either take it or quit complaining.

Look, I don't mind preorder but when every retailers get their own EXCLUSIVE DLC, it becomes extremely annoying. Are they expecting us to preorder the game at 5 different retailers for 5 different copies just because these DLC are exclusive to one retailer?

It's fine if every retailer gets the same DLC preorder or their own little physical goodie. At least let their customers know that we can obtain these different weapons later on. It's frustrating to know you won't get a certain advantage because you purchase your game at X retailer instead of Y retailer.

Do you know what the problem even is? Its the fact its tied to certain shops, people who buy elsewhere like at independant shops has to buy their copy from either GAME or Gamestation, which is really s**t on people who shop elsewhere and independant game shop owners.

They saw Activision getting away with worse and having droves of people still buy it. Plenty of us said that if people supported Activision through their tricks that other publishers would start to copy them.

Well, just look at what's happening. People are already saying "screw them I'm still buying it" in this very comments section.

Could really care less about the physical warfare package and like with every Battlefield DLC, it will be available for purchase later. Why are people protesting against DICE/EA when virtually every game does this now days? People didn't protest Gamestop for not have the Reptile or Ermac Kostumes for Mortal Kombat?

I've mentioned this before, but there's a double standard for EA. People have this idea that is pretty old and hasn't gone away: EA is evil. I think it's total crap, because if they were, they would just keep sending out re-hashes of their key titles and would have dropped all these "other" titles (Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, all of their smaller titles) and only kept the big boys to churn out year after year. Their not Activision.

I'll be honest and say that EA is now my favorite publisher, because when their new president actually talks and gives his ideas, he makes sense. He's not out to nickel and dime people. I doubt anyone can point the finger at them without their being at least 3 other publishers out there who do the same.

Yah I know they've really grown on me. Favorite publishers as well ^^ You can also say they've come along way this gen. Knowing their backing up Respawn Entertainment's IP, Insomniac's Overstrike, and working on Mirror's Edge 2 as well as bringing Battlefield 3 to the table, they are one power house company that believes in great games! Money is always a factor but not number 1 for EA, unlike Activi$ion

I think this was bad marketing mixed with a half ass idea.

IMO dlc is just being abused and most times announced too early. What ea should have done IMO though is if they want to do specific store dlc then they should have done some kind of team marketing. Do what ever dlc you want but make it competitive ( store x gets this And y gets that) market that dlc as a store x vs store y, market it right, and it will Be on! Could even turn into a east vs west as long as it's kept civil.

Good. Stay out of my game. There are exclusive bits of DLC for countless games. This is nothing new. Type 88 LMG is the worst one on BC2 anyway. If you don't want to buy what will be the genre defining shooter that all others are measured on over something like this, you won't see me shedding any tears. It'll be available eventually. If you need a DAO-12 or Type 88 LMG to step your game up to another level, you probably suck and shouldn't be playing.

I actually thought it was good. I was happy that every now and then they added new stuff, even though there weren't all those many new maps released (except for the last update). If they do it again, which I'm not sure they will, then I think they just need to do a better job of it and make sure they add maps more regularly.

I know this is battlefield, and that each map is huge and adds a lot of value (and therefore, also is harder to create) but they have to keep people interested with new maps, even if you have to pay for them.

In my opinion, NONE of this "exclusive" DLC will stay that way. Nothing is going to be exclusive in the few weeks after the game is out, because that will stop people from being able to play with their friends, if they didn't order it from the same place. EA is not stupid, they will eventually offer these exclusives to everyone.

In my opinion DLC is one of the worst things that's happen to gaming this generation. Companies are abusing DLC to make more money, selling stuff that should've already been in the game or some other halfass content that's not worth the price.
