Turok Hands-on for PS3

IGN still enjoys the simple pleasures in life -- a breezy early morning walk, a cup of Joe with some cake, and picking up a tiny dinosaur before slitting its throat with our giant knife.

Thank goodness Touchstone and Propaganda Games enjoy the simple stuff, too.

Yes, Turok is getting closer and closer to its February launch on the PS3 and 360, but folks eager to play will get their chance to step behind Turok's bow and plethora of guns in just a few days when an exclusive demo makes its way into GameStops nationwide.

Graphically, the game's sweeping grass and lush outdoor textures still looked great, but Turok's time in some bland, dark caves weren't much to write home about. While the game ran smoothly a majority of the time IGN was playing, they did notice a framerate drop here and there.

I remember being awe struck when I first played TUROK on the N64. The graphics were amazing, the guns were ridiculous, the controls were solid, and the enemies were a good challenge.

TUROK 2 raised the bar again with some of the largest loading-free levels I'd ever seen, and the gameplay was, again, fantastic...

The series kinda took a nose dive after that, but this next gen release looks promising.
The only thing I'm not really liking is the 3rd person cinematic camera angle you get with the scripted animations when you go in for a knife kill. While it's great for trailers, I'm hoping we will have the option to disable that feature in the final game.

Fingers crossed

Nightdive Studios Quietly Uploaded A Native PS5 Version Of The Original Turok, Now Runs At 120FPS

After releasing remasters of all three original Turok games, starting with the first two games in 2021 and then Turok 3 in 2023, Nightdive Studios has quietly updated the first Turok game with a native PS5 update.

Beyond the bug fixes and general cleaning-up that comes with most patches these days, the big thing about the PS5 version for the original Turok is that if you have a TV that can support it, you’ll be able to play Turok at 120FPS now.

Turok: A Game Series in Need of a Reboot

The Turok series has been languishing without a new title for more than a decade. It's about time we got a reboot.

I'm all for it, I loved the originals... I just don't think, just like w the original Prey, that the main character can survive in this current political climate. Native characters seem untouchable at the moment. I think it can be shown the right respect, but there's always someone getting upset about something these days, they would find a way to cancel it.

BriBri718d ago

I can't think of a game that's been cancelled because of the race of the main character.

Honestly, I would prefer if they just ported/remastered Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion to modern platforms. So we could have access to the "original 3 games". Because I don't see how to really reboot Turok. It's a product of its time being a mixture of platforming/fps and puzzle.

And I really don't see all those elements being preserved on a Reboot.

I would prefer Dino Crisis remake from Capcom. Still, a remade Turok would get my attention.

Forgets about the 2008 reboot*
I'd rather have a sequel to Turok 3, tbh.

We unfortunately do not have enough quality dino games. Theres Horizon but they're robots, and Monster Hunter that I can only think of. I'd like to see Turok make a comeback some day.
