Kinda both. They are modernized with dual stick controls, a much better framerate, FOV slider and less fog. Graphically they don't look that much better than the N64 game, but I think that's what they were going for. I own both versions on Xbox One, Steam and Switch. I'll probably end up getting them for my PS5 as well 😅
Ah cool I have them both for my N64 and they still both very playable, don't know if they really needed a frame bump, maybe just a constant one. But otherwise that are great couple of games that could do with a real remastered to death.
My 15 year old cousin couldn't get past the first area. Then you have little 6 year old me attacking a barrel because I thought it was funny. Boom, opened up a wall to a staircase to the next area. Born a true gamer!
Beat Turok 1 on Switch a year and a half ago, and yeah it totally sucks. There's no story, no satisfying ending. The boss strategies are all basically circle strafe and fire. The levels are a confusing mess and take much longer to beat than necessary. Collecting all the hidden items is a damn frustrating chore. The music is so repetitive, I got extremely sick of it early on.
I'll say that the controls and speed is fantastic in the modern remasters, but playing on N64 is an absolutely terrible experience. I went back to try it out on N64 and the controls are FORCED inverted, you can not play using normal UP = UP and DOWN = DOWN. What were they thinking?! Also on N64 there is FORCED "look spring" which means if you're looking up or down, and then let go of the stick, it will always re-center itself. Making vertical aiming a chore.
So basically, the N64 game is unsalvageable, but the remasters while still bad, at least have good controls.
Neat! Those games are classics. I only got to play these a little bit back in the day, as my friend was the one with the N64, while I had a PS1. We had a good arrangement where we each just got different systems that started back when I had my Genesis, and he had his NES/SNES...and his life, though that's a story for another time. Regardless, we clearly spent the bulk of the time with the systems we owned. Still, these games looked pretty neat, so I might check these out, recognizing full-well that they're from a time that seems like a lifetime ago now. They're sure to bring back memories, regardless.
I personally liked the Gamecube game, but I could see it being re-made, as in, an entirely new prequel game but same concept. Otherwise a new game entirely.
Holy damn day one! I love turok
Haha finally Turok on PS consoles..
Turok 64 was sick, great memories
About time. The trophy list got added back in June or July.
