2nd-gen 65nm Xbox 360: who is waiting?

Daniel From product reviews ordered his Xbox 360 a few months before it was due to be released and it was so popular he had to wait another one and half months after that to get his hands on an Xbox 360.

A lot of time has passed since then and he has seen his brothers 360 get the red ring of death and some friends.

Even his 360 got the 3 red lights once, but then after a day it started back up again (cannot understand that).

This story is old news, the 3RR heat issues are behind us. Waiting for a die-size change is a moot issue w/r/t 3RR.

The Xbox 360 heat issues have already been fixed, and we already were told. And we've been seeing the improved hardware for months now.

Motherboard Version 1.1. This Motherboard has fewer components, smaller components, new layout, and a new CPU/GPU mounting methodology.

Are the 360's with the HDMI ports the one's with the 65nm chips?

I just bought a Premium yesterday (I'm tired of arguing about which is better) and I got the one with the HDMI port and it was packaged with Forza 2 and Ultimate Alliance (great deal). I got it at the Exchange too so there wasn't any tax either so that made it an even better deal.

Why does it matter? It doesn't. The only benefit to the falcon is CHEAPER MANUFACTURING COSTS. There is absolutely no benefit at all for the end user.

The 65nm chips are out, but unfortunately only the CPU is 65nm, the GPU is still 90nm. The CPU was already properly cooled, the GPU will get the 65nm treatment late 2008.

It could be that not everyone wants to play a bunch of lackluster Jap games. The 360 consistently pumps out games rated 9.0 or higher. No other console is doing that right now. The 360 has become the "cool" console to have.

The 360 is looked at as "cool" by junior high and high school kiddies... At my University its seen as a piece of corporate junk lol. please don't think that dude speaks for everyone in the US. 360 is only cool to those that can't afford anything else. it's followers are mostly the same people that bought the original xbox and a few others that bought the 360 because it was the newest console out (like me), while waiting for a real "next-gen" console.

When did everyhone start getting this idea in their head that the Falcon is THE fix for the RROD?

The fix is in the heatsink design (motherboard getting warped and components coming unsoldered). NOT THE SIZE OF THE CPU.

The main reason for MB warping came from the X-Clamps not being supportive enough ... the X-clamp method IS GONE !!!

They now have a new method which is a proved method that folks have used as a home MOD that eliminate the X-clamps which was also a HUGE CONTRIBUTOR to the RROD. It is now is ALL the new 360's

IS NOW STANDARD and done in the factory by MS. It is a MUCH MUCH better method VS the X-clamp. And in reality, the MS way gets rid of the X-Clamp TOTALLY with differnt stabilizers.

Maybe the GPU 65nm is the fix, which is precisely why I'm waiting.

I really want one(Gar only one friend I know has PSN, and everyone laughed at me for getting a PS3 early) but I'm not going to be fed corporate stuff(from any company) about problems. I'll leave that to the consumer to decide.

My 2005 360 was working great until shortly after I got Forza 2. I didn't get the RROD yet, but I get countless graphic errors (even on Pac-Man C.E., & I love that game!). Sadly, I'm only using it as a DVD player because that's the only thing it does well.

The truth that the you fell for Sony's lies hurts too? Especially now that it has a lackluster game lineup with very few great games...although it has a few good games, it's painfully obvious that Sony's first priority is definitely not gaming.

Granted all the console producers have spouted their fair share of PR BS this generation, but it's pretty obvious to any objective observer that Sony definitely "takes the cake" this generation for pure stupidity and poor implementation. So much of the PS3 was awesome in theory...and so little of the PS3 has actually proven to be good (at least for gaming). Well...at least you can watch Blu-ray movies! Yippee (sarcasm)!

In particular, Sony PR BS seems to be the predominate BS here. While there is BS from Wii/360 fanboys too, the sheer amount of BS is definitely in favor of the Sony fanatics here (or it seems to be to me). This is one of the few places on the internet that I can think of that is completely overrun by Sony fanboys that I've come accross. It's so odd (at least to me)...are Sony fans just more fanatical than other fans? Am I generalizing far too much? I'm just commenting on the observations because Sony fanatics definitely seem to be dominate here.

Anyways, this site is great in theory (user submitted stories from all around the internet is a great idea), but for some reason in reality it has just been leading to borderline "news" articles being posted constantly (most stories are from Blogs and full of massive amounts of opinion) and fanboy fighting from all three sides. I've definitely seen fanboy fighting before...but for some reason, people here take it to the next level of stupidity. I'd be very interested to see the average age of the users of this site. From the comments section, I'd be completely shocked if the average age was above 18. People here are so argumentative for some reason...

Anyways, this site is kinda aggravating. I like coming here to read stories I'd never see posted anywhere else; but it's getting annoying reading all this total BS being passed off as fact by all the fanboys of the three systems. Can't we just some real news????

I wish there were more mods, or something of that nature, to crack down on the validity and relevance of some of these "news stories". It'd make this website more appealing to those who are not die-hard and just want to read off-beat rumors and news. Just a suggestion to make this place better because it could be so great if run correctly.

I never bought the ps2 when it first came out because of the dvd issue and I won't buy the 360 until the heat motherboard issue is resolved. I still can't understand how people can buy a product knowing there are major issues with it. I have never bought an extended warranty no matter how much the the sales rep tries to push it. Warranties are nothing more than a way for retailers to increase revenue.
Would You buy a 2 thousand dollar Hdtv knowning the manufacturer has increased the warranty to three years because of all failure rates they were having? Also can anyone answer me if Msft will fix your 360 for free after the extended three year warranty has expired?

I don't think that MS will fix your 360 for free after the 3 years warranty has expired, although you could try and pretend to them that its still in the 3 year warranty bit. If your that worried about the 360 breaking then wait until next year to get a 360.

As I said, my 360 which I bought in Feb 2006 still works great.

- Two heat syncs (rather than one)
- Very reliable and quite BenQ drive
- No more X-clamp that caused issues (new 4 screw mount method)
- 65nm chip

I have been watching around at my Local Walmart, Best Buy and Future shop, Eb Games.

I am happy to say that EVERY SPOT I have seen here in Ottawa, Canada how has newer lot numbers. Checked today when grabbing GH3 and have been seeing Lot #'s like 0735 and 0736

I also know the guy who owns and operates XB360 REFLOW (xb360reflow.com)and have asked him if he has had any of the 360's with the new motherboards and internal improvments come across his workbench ... and so far so good .. he has seen NONE !

What is still HURTING THE 360s REPUTATION is the fact MS is still sending out REFURBES of the old crap. They need to either destroy them or only use the shells but put in the new Motherboards.

As long as they keep sending folks back repaired OLD HARDWARE ... the RROD will still happen.

This site is so great in theory...it's just so overrun with total Crap articles full of heavily slanted opinion and PR BS. Few of these "news" articles are anything I'd consider "news". Why isn't there a separate opinion/blog posts section on this site? I think there is something similar, but it should be on the front page. I get the feeling that people post this crap to get stuff on the front page. But who is approving this? Where are the mods? Why does this site that is so great in theory suck so badly in reality? The reason I hate you is because you justify MSFT, and you think everyone should be satisfied with a 3 year warranty. I don't care if it has a 100 warranty if every month I have to call Microsoft's tech service. It's ANNOYING and I'm sick of it. I've had 3 RRODs so far, two dead HDDs, and three disc scratches. Would you buy a new car with a 33% fail rate, even if it has a 3 year warranty? I wouldn't buy it if it had a 10 year warranty.

Maybe I'll buy a 360 one day if: they fix RROD for good, make great games that aren't all FPS, make great games that aren't graphically gimped PC ports, promise that they won't release a new system in a couple years and dump the 360 (like they did with the xbox).

iam glad everyone is sticking up for there console, cool. look the main question is i havent heard much news about the rrod lately. and no iam not a fanboy iam a gamer, i had a 360 it rrod, got it back and sold it, i got a ps3 when it got its first price drop, an so far no problems. games are starting to come now so thats good. Now the question is....is it safe to buy a 360 with no fault? most of my friends have the 360 and they will soon buy a ps3 for the new year.

Have never owned a 360 and you can tell... Why would you be satisfied with a 3 year warranty and calling microsoft every month HAHA. There is NO ONE who owns a 360 that needs to call Microsoft every month. Yes my xbox 360 has RROD but it was a easy no hassle process to send it out and get it back.
