‘BF3 Contains a Shitload of VO’s and… Cursing’

BF3's Voice Over Producer tweeted some interesting stuff regarding the in-game dialogue. DeltaGamer takes a closer look.

Not if you've been in the military, but I guess you're onto something in that they should have filters for blood and cursing for those who want to play vanilla. Gamers should have a choice and some have kids.

I wonder why cursing is so bad, but graphic head-shots are so good?

...at any rate, I wanna see if all of the "journalists" will complain about BF3 like they did Killzone 2.

Well a graphic headshot looks real more or less. Sick thrill.

On the other hand, a lot of games that cuss to a ridiculous degree has terribly*** written dialogue so it feels so stupid. Like a little kid who just learned a new word.

But well written dialogue with a lot of cussing (GTA IV for example) doesn't feel excessive.

It's all in its execution.

edit: And somehow I think BF3 doesn't have spectacular writers.

You hit the nail right on the head, Reservior: there's cussing to a ridiculous degree, terribly written dialogue that sounds stupid; just like a little kid who learned a new word.

And that's EXACTLY how the average soldier sounds.

The term "swearing like a sailor" didn't come from the perspective that sailors were docile and meek in word and deed.

I have to be truthful here: I've grown-up around a lot of people who have been in the military and to be honest, Most of the people who see in any war film will be under twenty-five, so they are kids learning new curse words, and are dying to use it in any situation that warrants it in their minds.

Nowadays, a number of the soldiers are well-meaning, but they still curse up a storm. The rest are meatheads, hillbillies, rednecks (yes, there's a difference), trash of all types, thugs, drifters, loners, vato locos, and borderline career criminals who in one form or another got into the military to either escape certain trouble in the streets, learn how to handle a weapon, or looking for a payday in terms of college education or just a check.

Now I'm not saying that they will all remain as such, as almost all of them will find honor, a career, and a new respect for themselves and their country in service to it; but still, it doesn't mean they will turn into scholars, so a lot of them will sound... not so educated.

If you make them sound like a bunch of Boy Scouts on Steroids, it really detracts from the realism.

Haha, true. I get it. But still, there's people who know how to cuss and there's people who sound stupid.

Sitting in traffic in LA is realistic but that doesn't really happen in LA Noire. It'd be better if they forsake a little realism and get good writing.

And replacing them for words like friggin just sounds worse honestly.

All I'm saying is if there's cussing, which is realistic (only a fair few like me don't cuss at all), just get some good writing so I could enjoy the singleplayer.

I can agree with that, for sure; plus, I'm not saying that I desire curse words, I just can rationalize it in terms of it's placement in the game. I also agree that there ought to be better writing: if not in the actual dialogue, let it be in the storyline itself.

I enjoy COD for sure, tried to play BF a few times, but it was god awful. Too many snotty kids either whoring vehicles or trying to snipe...lol

ugh....I don't play COD to AVOID 12 yr old kids. I don't know why you seem to think it's the opposite. In my experience its been COD(for kids and noobs), BF for adults...you know, because there are objectives and teamwork involved. lol

As long as they don't overdue, it doesn't bother me one bit. One thing that I absolutely loved in Bad Company 2 is when you got an avenger kill, your character would say "Payback motherf*cker. See how that s*it works?!"
