Developer from DICE responded to fans ongoing questions regarding balance of Battlefield 3.

You are forgetting what this generation games are like in the first week. Doesn't matter if it is COD or BF3 there will always be glitches because they do not test them any more. We are the testers because of their "It doesn't matter we can patch it later" ideology

@super, the problem with these games is not lack of testing, but lack of more testing during key times. Once BF3 or MW3 is deemed MP beta worthy, these companies should have a public Beta. but not one that is limited to 20,000 user or so, but one that is at least 100,000 users with an extended test reaching at least 250,000 users for at least 1 week.

From my experience if you look at CoD:MW1 and WaW, these games had a public beta cycle and while they still had some bugs and glitches the number was dwarf when compared to the last 2 games that had no public beta.

But greed is a bitch, these companies rather run a "Beta" after release than during testing.

yeah man, sorry but as much as i like DICE, there really are always problems with games these days. we no longer live in the old days where a game came out and that was it lol

and i totally agree that there should be an open beta. there should be an open beta for every MP game. not only would this help cut down on a lot of problems, but would get the game hyped up more depending on if it was actually good or not. i think that's one reason a lot of companies are afraid to do a public beta maybe.

even on top of that, companies need to be on top of fixing things. only FPS developer to date that i can say, or know of, has been on top of fixing errors is Gorilla Games. when KZ2 came out, they were on it. when KZ3 came out... same thing. they're quick. wish they were all like that.

BF isn't that big of a franchise. COD didn't change the industry. There is a reason why Halo and COD have the biggest online fanbase. They came first. Not because they are the best. People stick to what they are used to. I have friends that to this day buy anything Halo related and rather play it than anything else.

i enjoy battlefield campaign alot more then cod campaign but i don't like the multiplayer alot because the gamelay feels slow compared of cod...

i don't care about scores ,even if i don't play battlefield it's still better in some places , same with cod , so if someone like battlefield go play it , if someone like cod go play it but don't say which one is better because people have different tastes..

I agree. I love Bad Company 2 however if BF3's final multiplayer is completely balanced, then I am renting it.

If DICE truly removes Magnum Ammo, Ceramic Body Armor and Improved Demolitions, people will find the best gun and overuse it,then........other people will complain about that exact gun being overpowered to DICE.........and they'll nerf it......and people will find the 'NEW FAVORITE GUN'.....and this cycle will continue until most, if not all, guns have lost their ability to win fights or stand out.

I think Magnum Ammo and Ceramic Body Armor allow weaker guns that aren't as good as other guns to useful in a fight. I don't want too many guns that feel useless, I don't want to empty a whole clip into somebody and I don't want guns feeling the same in BF3 and that's my reasoning for imbalance. High Hopes.

BF prides itself on being a class-based FPS. Having a health advantage on a particular class at the cost of another equally exploitable disadvantage is not "imbalanced" especially if its speed.

I can see removing the option for all classes to take magnum ammo or health, but that doesn't mean they are imbalanced entirely.

Its even more strange that this is considered a major problem by fans, given that they are used to getting destroyed by tanks/choppers/etc, why are they not "imbalanced"? (note: I'm not saying they are)
People know the counters to tanks/choppers is why. So all they need to do is make sure classes have counters if they are going to have any advantages.

Additionally, it is only the complainers that are being vocal to DICE because people who love BFBC2, like myself, don't complain b/c we just want 'additional features' added onto BF3, not the other way around.

I understand adjustments but I don't agree with any removals b/c I want more Battlefield........not less.

Anybody remember the mental anguish that occurred when trying to squad up? Even accessing the multiplayer menu meant getting "Can't connect with EA" messages.

I'm sorry, but when it comes to matchmaking Halo is still the industry standard. Smooth as butter, clean, and quick. Hope DICE has taken these things into consideration.

Battlefield 2, nor are any of the games balanced, that's what makes COD stupid.

A AK-47 should be able to snipe, and a sniper should be good at close range. That's technically imbalance, and that what makes the game great, it's the skill of location choosing, the acucracy, everything.

That was the area around my head moments prior to realizing and understand what you just said.

Imagine if they did project realit 2.0, where the map is paper and in your hand, how bullets can penetrate and leave holes in walls etc, 1 hit kill, no revives, exactly like real life, where destoyed tanks stay in place, bridges blow up.

I mean... just to give you an idea, a SINGLE round of Project reality is not 10 minutes UT 3 hours+, it's so tactical, I spent 20 minutes and got 1 kill, yet I felt great about, stealthing up on an opponent.

Sweet, so I take it what he means is that there will be no magnum ammo or flak vest type thing. Both of which BC2 had. I know people are complaining about the game being fudged up on release, but unfortunately fellow BF fans cannot deny that the past 3 Battlefield games have been fudged up at launch. 1943's servers were full for about 2 weeks on 360. BC2's servers were the same, and the PC didn't have a server browser at first. Also, BF2 had alot of issues with updates and PB (god I hate PB)....but in the end probably a couple of weeks after BF3's release it will all be addressed, just like all of their other games. Unfortunately for COD....well....you know,lol

EDIT: I reeeeeally hope that DICE lets us PC gamers play unranked 256 player matches, lol. They said they could do it.

I hate balance. Balance equals boredom. I actually want weapon and health boosts to stay, as long as they keep both of them so they'll continue cancelling each other out. To me, Magnum Ammo, Ceramic Body Armor and Improved Demolitions added an additionally foundation of fun.

OMG, I'm gonna miss Vehicle Boost perks.

PS. Listening to a community TOO MUCH is always bad because some bad game ideas will slip into the game. High Hopes.

I love TF2's way of balance... everything is so overpowered, it cancels out.
Though you're right about balance being boring. BlackOps suffered from that in the long run... and even Brink felt too mundane until you level up and start unlocking abilities that changes the tides.

Though by balance, I assume they'll also be toning down the jets and possibly not repeating a CarlGustav.

I just hope they have a smarter levelling system. Starting a game with nothing really sucks. You're more or less forced to play a round or two being useless... and then grind a bit more just to have a fair chance in a gunfight. =/
