NGP Ports Should Eventually Come To The PS3

Geek Revolt writes "It’s a known fact that the NGP is getting PS3 ports—but what about the other way around? The NGP is going to have exclusive games that won’t be on the consoles, like it’s Uncharted game. Shouldn’t gamers get the chance to experience these stories on their PS3? Here’s why certain NGP games should “eventually” be ported."

I think the plan is to have releases that can be played on both...at home on ps3 and on the move with ngp.

So you won't have to wait

DeeZee4874d ago

Wouldn't you have to buy two games? I figured you'd just be transferring saves back and fourth if they did it like that. Still, that might not be a bad idea.

longcat4874d ago

"Wouldn't you have to buy two games?"

I hope not - but you already have the ability to put most psn purchases on up to 5 consoles. I was expecting this to include ngp

DeeZee4874d ago

@ Pedro Yeah, you're probably right. It wouldn't make much sense to require us to purchase it twice. It'd be cool to take a game from the couch (PS3) to the bus stop (NGP) or wherever and pick up where you left off.

STK0264874d ago

We'll likely have to buy the game twice, as that way developers and publishers can make more money, they could also release bundles containing both versions of a game for a lower price (say a PS3 game is usually 60$, and an NGP one is 50$, they could bundle them for 80$ or something like that). WWE SvR allowed for some connectivity between the PS2 version and the PSP one, but you obviously had to buy both.

Also, you have to consider that the PS3 and the NGP have a completely different architecture, which means that they can't simply make the game and have it work on both platforms without spending additional time on it.

Also, if you look at past games that were on both the PSP and the PS3, you always had to buy them twice (with the exception of PSOne games), games like FlOw, Super Stardust and Echocrome. The same can be said of the upcoming PSP HD ports, even if you already have the PSP version, you'll have to pay again to have the HD version.

It only makes more sense from a business point of view.

skrug4874d ago

@STK026

It's easy to port from PS3 to NGP. Remember when NGP was annouce, the developers said they took #days/weeks to do a straight port with little to no changes. i.e MGS4 had no changes (tho it was slightly lagging)

pain777pas4873d ago

PS1 classics off PSN have worked this way already. I share saves for FF7, Arc the lad and Grandia all the time. The thing is that you have to transfer via USB on a 2000 PSP. People may not realise that I have a copy of every PS1 DLed game on my PS3 and PSP and bought only one copy. The PSP is awesome in that sense and the NGP will be amazing in my opinion. NGP games will be on PS3 and NGP the problem could be the price of the PS3 NGP compatible games. Publishers could get 10 dollars greedy or have both games on a bluray. Too many possiblities and all speculation is completely plausible.

trancefreak4874d ago

another reason why I think the ps3 will be around for much longer.

games might be envisioned to play cross platform or converted from ps3 to ngp or vice versus.

Just a thought.

Blaze9294874d ago

I wonder how that would work. Unless they do it like Blu-Ray moves and include "digital" ps3 copies of every NGP game. Of course, for one time redeem use.

But I wonder how that would even work. I'd imagine NGP games have to be direct ports of PS3 games. Liek for example, MGS4. Then yeah, buy MGS4 on NGP and get a download code for MGS4 PS3 or something and play the game where you last left off on either platform.

But at the same time, if everything are ports then we're just right back to the same issue PSP had in 2005 when it launched. Hell, for most of the PSP's library: just console ports.

I don't know really what Sony plans to do with the NGP. It's pretty much given NGP games will be playable on PS3 and PS3 games on NGP. But it's like the PSP all over again. If people didn't just want console ports on the go, why would they 6-7 years later?

stealth500k4874d ago (Edited 4874d ago )

"It's pretty much given "

Actually its pretty much a given it wont. Sonys already said as much.

They are discouraging all cross porting

longcat4874d ago (Edited 4874d ago )

Good points (blaze), but i never expected the cross platform games to be the full BR releases. I was expecting the sub $20 psn stuff to be cross platform.

I dont see how most PS3 games can perform well over a 3g connection anyways - but i hope i'm wrong.

Edit - also, having a game playable on both consoles with one save file is very different situation from an isolated port which you speak of.

AridSpider4874d ago

you got a link for that stealth? Pretty sure that's exactly what Kojima was pushing and hinting at when he demoed MGS4.

stealth500k4874d ago

thats actually not the plan. Sony said they absolutely dont want that. They dont want porting.

It would essentially make 1 system worthless.

AridSpider4874d ago (Edited 4874d ago )

and they said they didn't want porting on the PSP - look how those games turned out: bunch of PS2 ports the entire first year and more after.

sinncross4874d ago (Edited 4874d ago )

This sounds like such a bad idea... I can understand multiplatform games appearing on both but Sony relasing their own IP's in this manner (save for sports titles like MLB) makes no senss - most people will just pick up the PS3 version.

I think a better idea would be to expand on the potential cloud gaming feature. If you buy a PS3 game you can cloud game to your NGP. If you buy an NGP game you can cloud game to your PS3.

This would most likely get people to buy both a PS3 and NGP.

posted in wrong place - sorry

Kon4874d ago

Next time.... No, there won't be next time, right Pedro?

nopunctuation4874d ago

They will probably make it to where you can play your NGP games on the big screen like they wanted to do with PSP. Its pretty much the same thing.

Pedantic914874d ago (Edited 4874d ago )

The NGP needs to keep it's own exclusives and the "many gamers that aren’t interested in portable games" is not a good enough excuse.

Atleast i think 1 year is too early to even think about it. Make it 3-4 years and maybe then.......

This whole "PSP remaster" thing only makes sense because the PSP is more or less done by now, might aswell make a quick buck and port the best ones on the PSP to the PS3 with better controls, 3D and HD.

I hope the second revision of the NGP will come with tv out hdmi, similar to the second revision of the PSP.

supremacy4874d ago

Agreed, i also believe part of the reason for the remasters is so that the ngp can get some retro gaming action as well.

damnyouretall4874d ago

i guess it could go both ways. i know i said this alot but i want the new mortal kombat on the ngp. i want that more than anything cause its the only reason i havent bought it for consoles. day one ngp damnit

"Living La Vita Loca"

Lord Anubis4852d ago

but can we manipulate the wind?

Giggitty

LordStig4852d ago

I've always liked the Clap Hanz sport games the controls are not complicated so they're easy to jump in to and the DLC was dirt-cheap.

Surfaced4852d ago

Definitely getting this at launch, along with Gravity Daze and maybe Uncharted.

blusoops4852d ago

This along with uncharted will be day one!
Also, i'll get stardust and sound shapes, cause i imagine they'll be cheap downloads...i hope.

Sony PS Vita (NGP) Australian Price Revealed?

OXCGN:

"And no, it isn’t cheaper because of our strong dollar.

With the unveiling of the not so secret name of Sony’s upcoming handheld console today at E3 as the Sony PS Vita (no longer the NGP or PSP2), Americans, Europeans, and Japanese got to find out the price. But not Australians. Yet.

It has just been revealed by EB Games what the estimated RRP for the PS Vita here is."

gaminoz4860d ago

Wow...import anyone? That isn't fair considering the Aussie $ is better right now...

Tachyon_Nova4860d ago

PS3 is still $500 retail price over here, so $338 actually surprised me by being so low.

BadCircuit4860d ago (Edited 4860d ago )

And he says that price could go UP??? I really really hope the games aren't region locked.

Mind you I mostly feel that way because the US price was so good.

gaminoz4860d ago

Well I do have to admit the price is WAY better than the 3DS RRP!

timzone4860d ago

Region free would be great for the consumer especially given how the vita is something you would take with you as you travelled internationally. If it wants to sell 100 million plus then I think region free is a must.

gaminoz4860d ago

It would also one-up the 3DS, which is region locked.

VampiricDragon4860d ago

the ps2 was region locked.

How was that?

XboxOZ3604860d ago

They could also not allow imports restricting hardware from overseas which many do these days to ensure local markets are not affected.

It's outrageous for sure to have a price like that, but, it is Sony after all, Bot Nintendo and Sony do have a rather high regard for their products, and tend to charge for that.

STN: Hands on with PS Vita and its games

STN Writes:

Now that Sony has officially announced the new name of the NGP to be “Vita”, we decided that it was time to get some hands-on time with the powerful handheld device. After waiting in line for two hours, We finally got to the demo stations and were told that we would have four minute demos with five different games.

Terrible name. Having owned a PSP since 2006 I can honestly say the Vita does not appeal. I know it should but I really hate the form factor and lack of built in storage. I hated having to buy memory cards from the get go for the PSP and doing it all over again plain sucks.

GoldPS34860d ago (Edited 4860d ago )

Let's see you make your own handheld then. Give it a better name and better features. Let me know when you done making it.

Close_Second4860d ago

So your saying because I'm just a consumer I dont have a valid opinion? are Sony giving this away for free or do they need to convince me my money is worth it?

By the way, PSP2 is a better name.

gta28004860d ago (Edited 4860d ago )

I'm glad I still have my PSP and I'm glad I can still use the same memory cards. Memory sticks are pretty cheap now compared to when PSP first came out. You can literally buy like a 8GB for 20 bucks. And I don't care about the name. That's the last thing that's gonna be on my mind when this sexy beast is in my hands.

By the way, has it been confirmed that there will be no built in storage? It would be great if they provided a couple of gigs. Nothing major but enough to hold a lot of save data. Then just make the MS optional for those who will want to buy downloadable titles.

SilentNegotiator4859d ago (Edited 4859d ago )

Quit complaining about the name. No one blinks twice at the name "Wii" anymore.
It's just a name.

The built-in storage was obviously going to be a price barrier (make it more expensive than 3DS), so they removed it. You can easily fix this by buying a 16GB memory card (The amount that was planned to be in the NGP).....problem solved. And if 16GB isn't enough for you, then there's nothing to complain about; it wouldn't have met you needs anyway.

Close_Second4859d ago

So, NGP + 16GB memory card will cost what? you all know it will be months after the release of the Vita before 16GB memory cards will be affordable.

Gee, I hope the next iPod comes with no built in memory.

gta28004859d ago

16GB memory stick for less than a PS3/360 game. Not too bad, I'll be using the 8GB I have on my old PSP but if I ever need more space I'll upgrade to this and by then I'm sure it will be cheaper than 50.

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-...

Close_Second4859d ago

You do realise the Vita uses a new type of memory card and not a pro-due or mini/micro SD.

VampiricDragon4860d ago

In the US yes. Much more expensive in japan and europe

with games likely at 60 dollars.

Quagmire4860d ago

Only Americans would disagree, they dont believe the rest of the world.

Mnemonic-DK4860d ago

What I don't get is why Sony continues to screw over their EU customers?

Late releases, downgraded hardware, more expensive consoles - all this to their most loyal customer base. WTF?

And now PSVita will be using Valve's infamous 1$=1€ pricing? 249$~1269DKK and 249€~1856DKK - aka the 33% "EU tax"! :(

F that - I'll just do what I started doing with Valve - Stop buying until the price is lowered.

Sony make it very hard to continue to support them. PPL are getting very tired of being screwed over by them again and again.

SilentNegotiator4859d ago

WAHT?? Things being more expensive in the EU and Japan? I'm stunned!
/s

What the hell were you expecting?

MasterCornholio4860d ago

games will probably be worth the same as 3DS ones. I read in an article somewhere (tried to find it but cant) that the development costs for the Vita is the same as the PSP. What i do know is that the Vita in europe will cost the same as the 3DS which is priced at 250 euros here. Dont fight it fanboys the NGP and the 3DS cost the same unless Nintendo drops the price before the Vitas release which might happen.

Regardless on which one you choose both are quality handhelds and in the end its down to the games that you like.

VampiricDragon4860d ago

i read that ngp games will be 60

AceofStaves4860d ago

I can't wait to get the PS Vita. The name is fine. After all, we're gaming in a generation where the dominant home console is called 'Wii.'
