The recent news that Gameloft's CFO apparently doesn't think the 40 year old female mother is a valuable market causes Killer Betties to respond:
"According to Industrygamers.com, the following quote was attributed to the CFO of Gameloft, Alexandre de Rochefort:
"Zynga has made it very clear that their typical client is a female, 40 years old, staying at home in the mid-West," Rochefort added. "Gameloft has not sold a single game to this kind of client in the last 11 years."
This quote may be taken out of context, but let's pretend for a minute that not only did Rochefort say it, but he meant it."
Auto Defense, a real castle battle strategy game by Gameloft, is globally available to download and play on Android and iOS devices.
Culture of Gaming set down with Gameloft at E3 2019 where we got to preview some of their upcoming games in the mobile field.
Neil writes: "Since the turn of the millennium, Gameloft have established themselves as one of the very top innovators in their field, creating games for various platforms. With the mobile scene being their bread and butter, you would have been able to enjoy a whole host of their titles on your iOS or Android device. Now though they are partnering up with Microsoft to see the Xbox Live service roll out across the mobile gaming landscape."
Major move by Microsoft here. Already enjoying these games with Xbox Achievements/Live, through Windows 10 on my Surface Go, but now that they are bringing them to iOS and Android, even more people will be able to experience Xbox Live no matter where they are. More of this.
Gameloft make the worst mobile games They make crappy copies of more popular games . Good fit for MS I guess
Well, since the author has not put any context to this quote, I won't either. Maybe the CFO meant that over the last 11 years, Gameloft's game catalogue has been mostly ignored by 40 years old women from the mid-west. Without a context, you can't tell if he wanted to say that they have no intention of making games to appeal to this market or if their attempts have all failed.
Also, you have to consider that lately, Gameloft has made it clear that their business plan was to take popular "core" games like Uncharted, Call of Duty or StarCraft and make their own versions of these games and sell them to the portable market, so maybe they know that this type of game won't appeal to 40 years old women, and want to make it clear that they are fine with that.
Not every publisher has to catter to every single demographics. Epic hasn't exactly been targeting this particular one either, just like some publishers will target a very specific demographics and hope that it is big enough to be profitable (think Atlus).
