GameInformer: LA Noire Review

GameInformer: "L.A. Noire is ambitious. It throws the player headlong into a complex, emotional detective saga set in 1947 Los Angeles. Team Bondi doesn’t conceal the game’s literary and film influences; allusions to classic noir abound, and the game succeeds in capturing the dark, morally ambiguous atmosphere that is the hallmark of the genre. It’s a game unlike anything else I’ve played, one that uses Rockstar’s familiar open-world template as a jumping off point to deliver a deliberately paced adventure game that stresses conversation over gunplay.

L.A. Noire could have used more action sequences to break up the monotonous investigating, but aside from a couple of frantic moments toward the end of the Black Dahlia plotline, most of the action vignettes are simple foot or car chases. That would be fine if they weren’t so predictable and repetitive. Honestly, if one more suspect bolted right as I was about to start my questioning, I was going to shoot him or her. The few shootouts the game does have play out well enough, but suffer from occasional problems coming in and out of cover."

I think they're being a little too generous with that score. But nicely detailed, informative review.

After reading this review am having second thoughts about buying the game…

xPhearR3dx5093d ago

Not me. Hour and a half to go, picking up 2 copies. Can't wait.

nopunctuation5093d ago

Seriously? An 87.5 percent isnt good enough for you? What if it was a 90 then would you be saying this? I mean come one guys, it might as well be a 9. An 8 isnt a bad score either when you think about it. Dont let the reviewers run your life. Form your own opinion.

KILLERAPP5093d ago

Is not the score is what he said in the review…

-Ikon-5093d ago

What the above guy said. the number means very little compared to what they actually wrote

It depends if you looking for a game or an experience. L.A. Noire is not something you just play for "fun" like GTA.

0-0 a rockstar game not getting a perfect score uh oh

gillri5093d ago

seriously guys, the score is averaging 91, thats brilliant for any game never mind an adventure game like this

I always thought I would buy it even it was scoring down in the low 80s and im possibly more excited for this than RDR now.

Hopefully McNamara is as far away from this as possible he set up shop in Australia then did nothing but complain about Australian labour laws while trying to make his workers live at the office working 24/7 on la noire punishing them for leaving at 3 am and being 10 minutes late to work at 9am the next day.

It's astonishing that none of the workers went to the fair work ombudsman as the studio would have been fined astronomical numbers

Brendan McNamara is a brilliant writer and director but he should never, ever be in charge of a studio. What he did to those devs was far beyond "crunch", and it went on for, what, 7 years? That's insane.

But I'm glad to see some of that team have come together again to create something new. A psychological thriller sounds right up my alley.

I would have liked to see a new noir game.
