GameSpot: LA Noire Review

"For all of its attention to detail, L.A. Noire hits the occasional false note. For instance, the way people you pass on the street constantly comment loudly to nobody in particular about having seen you in the papers or indicate that you could use a bath is awkward, and it sticks out like a sore thumb in a world that tries so hard to be believable. But this is a minor nitpick with a game that gets under your skin the way few games do. L.A. Noire's length can vary significantly, depending on how many street crimes you respond to and how much of your own driving you do, but in any case, the 21 story cases make for a complete and satisfying experience. You come into contact with the seamy side of the movie industry and with major players in the gambling racket; you meet working stiffs and powerful businessmen; you encounter low-ranking mob thugs and Mickey Cohen, one of the most powerful gangsters in Los Angeles at the time. L.A. Noire is a unique game with a terrific sense of period...

^^What possesses people like you to say things like that? Like...really?

iistuii5134d ago

Everyone has reviewed the 360 version. If I was him I'd be more concerned why they would send them all that version to be reviewed because if it was my company selling something I'd give the better version for review. Why send in the worst version when they are looking for great reviews, just a thought.

Jinxstar5134d ago (Edited 5134d ago )

@iistuii

There are a few reasons. The ability to transfer saves and stuff with your account info is "Easier" for many review sites. They can go from home to the office and transferring is easier.

Also I have not read any reviews but if there is an online component PSN was down and most of these sites have been playing the game for a week or 2 already.

Also a lot of sites simply request the 360 version. Giant bomb for example. They have nothing against the PS3 really but they like Multis on 360 for either achievements, online or their preference of controller. I think it's BS as well but as a gamer isn't it doing us all a favor by going with lowest common denominator.

saimcheeda5134d ago

hahahaha exactly what i was thinking!

SonyNGP5134d ago

Regardless of what platform it's on, this game's GOTY.

stu8885134d ago

wait till Sykrim and Uncharted 3, theres a good lad!

SonyNGP5134d ago (Edited 5134d ago )

I don't need you to tell me how to have an opinion, bro.

@LOGIC

That's because I have the game and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. That's why it's currently my GOTY.

It could change, but not until we hit the 3rd/4th quarter of this year.

LOGICWINS5134d ago

I don't understand what the FREAKING point is of saying that ONE game is "GOTY"

NEWSFLASH! There will NEVER be ONE game that the WORLD will agree is GOTY. EVERYONE has different PRE-FER-REN-CES and they have their OWN GOTY.

RedDead5134d ago

I dunno...there are too many games out this year, it will for once completely drop to personal preference, where we have about 10 unbelievable products. I think Battlefield 3 or Skyrim might be mine, to anyone who has played PC Battlefield 2 knows why BF3 has a really high chance. Anyone who has played morrowind and Oblivion(to a lesser extent)) knows why Skyrim also has a huge chance

Schism205134d ago (Edited 5134d ago )

It still runs the same im guessing but the real main difference is that the 360 version has 3 discs opposed to one so I guess you could say it is somewhat inferior in a way.

Did anyone see the video review? dude has a freaky voice lol.

iistuii5134d ago

To decide which version to get, but if there's 3 discs I'd be getting more for my money.

Perjoss5134d ago

360 version will allow a full install, so most likely will have faster loading times.

RankFTW5134d ago

Wait that was a dude? If so then his name is Carolyn and he has breasts.

joydestroy5134d ago (Edited 5134d ago )

doesn't matter to me which is inferior. this isn't my type of game. was going to get it when it dropped in price but after hearing a review say the shooting took a backseat until the final act pretty much put me off.

i'm no detective. i'm a killer

glad to see it's getting good reviews, though.

Eyeco5134d ago

doesnt really matter 95% of multiplats are inferior on the PS3

DrFUD5134d ago

95% of multiplats this year are inferior on 360.
Homefront
Mortal Kombat
Portal 2
LA Noire
Brink
Dead Space 2
etc.
So quit living in the past

Team Bondi too sacred to send the ps3 version to be reviewed.

let all the suckers buy the weaker port and cant get there money back

Ju5134d ago

Must be it, huh? Watch Gametrailers, all PS3 footage there...

JonnyBigBoss5134d ago

You asked for it.

Giant Bomb and IGN both stated that the PS3 version runs and looks better. Oh, and it's on one disk instead of three. Oh, and it includes DLC.

Once again, you asked for it. Facts > bias.

TardcoreGamer5134d ago

7.5 Graphics
The faces are pretty damned awesome -- it's the actors, after all. The X360 version suffers from some performance issues -- framerate stuttering and graphical glitches. -IGN XBOX360 review

PS3 version got an 8.0 in the graphics department but also it was noted to have a few graphics glitches. Nothing major but with that said it seems PS3 does have the edge.

fluffydelusions5134d ago (Edited 5134d ago )

How long is this game? I've heard no mention of it yet

5134d ago
despair5134d ago

I just wished the story was not always set in stone, I think a game that is focused on investigation and mistakes that can happen should not always automatically reach the same conclusion no matter what you do, other than that(and points and ranks which have no place in a game like this) I think it looks like a really good game.

Hopefully McNamara is as far away from this as possible he set up shop in Australia then did nothing but complain about Australian labour laws while trying to make his workers live at the office working 24/7 on la noire punishing them for leaving at 3 am and being 10 minutes late to work at 9am the next day.

It's astonishing that none of the workers went to the fair work ombudsman as the studio would have been fined astronomical numbers

porkChop333d ago

Brendan McNamara is a brilliant writer and director but he should never, ever be in charge of a studio. What he did to those devs was far beyond "crunch", and it went on for, what, 7 years? That's insane.

But I'm glad to see some of that team have come together again to create something new. A psychological thriller sounds right up my alley.

anast333d ago

I would have liked to see a new noir game.

Demetrius333d ago

I been enjoying LA noire my first time playing it the vibe is🔥
