@captain-obvious-piracy ISN'T the way to bloody Activision's nose mate. I can't agree with the route of nicking their work no matter how out of order they as a company might be. Two wrongs don't make a right and all that but beyond that the impact piracy has is BAD for gamers. It brings about price hikes, it brings about draconian DRM measures that legit gamers suffer through and it, and this is the one which hurts us all the time imho, gives devs and publishers an excuse for all their bad behaviour.

EA or whoever want to charge more? Blame it on money lost to piracy. DRM? Piracy? Nickel and diming us? Piracy made them have to do it and so on. Piracy is the one thing we do which allows devs and publishers to say we have no loyalty or do not care about the health of the industry(and they roll out the tired "what if EVERYONE pirated their games?" argument even though we won't ALL ever do it as long as enough DO they have this excuse)and it erodes trust between us.

If we could all stop it then the industry would have to look at itself when things go tits up rather than blaming piracy like they do whenever they can atm. Piracy has, on PC definitely, hurt gamers-it';s the direct reason the PC version of DA2 wasn't the full fat sequel to DAO we all wanted but a watered down console port intead of developed on it's own. Entirely down to it's SALES on PC not covering the piracy.

Activision may rip us all off and do it in a crass way and I can't defend that but as it makes us look as bad as them I cannot condone piracy either. Not havcing a go but really don't think it's good for any of us and certainly not as a tool for attacking Activision. They can just say "See, all this piracy is costing us money? All we can do is put up the price of games/DLC to cover it, sorry, but we didn't ask for theft"-and they will. For ever.

I just want to take every excuse they have for shafting us away from them and then, maybe, instead of crying when someone trades a game they will say "hell, maybe if we made a better game he would have kept it. We must make better games!!". Just my thoughts anyhoo.

It's one of the screens leaked by Kotaku.

They were all very early shots (likely pre-alpha, with big, obvious chunks of the background assets missing and no lighting filters, etc.), but it's probably safe to assume that the actual gun models are pretty close to what they will look like in the final game.

That said, you can take similar screenshots of most *any* shooter and say they all look the same (especially when the very same gun is being held). The proof will be in the level design.

Well it blew people away because it was IW's first COD game following COD4 - the game that pretty much revolutionised the FPS genre. People expected, myself included, that MW2 would do the same again but it just didn't and gave us more of the same.

If you check the actaul weapon models you'll see they are just as good as the weapons in BF3.

I don't know why people were even expecting this game to look up-to-date in the first place...Call of Duty's graphics haven't changed since 2007. All they have tweaked in the slightest, is the lighting, and even then, they barely did. I just find it so heart breaking that they cancelled True Crime so that they could open a new studio for Call of Duty, based on the logic that, True Crime was something that we have seen before too many times...like CoD isn't? No one is surprised by this. COD hasn't changed anything since COD 4:MW. Since then the games have been plagued with online issues, glitches and imbalanced gameplay... they son't even offer private and public betas to test the game fully, with writing and story being mediocre at best. This game will be the same, regardless of who is working on it.

I hope people start seeing that Activision is milking them. Buy Battlefield. A higher quality game in every aspect.

And how is Battlefield not being milked? The first Battlefield game released in 2002 and as of the end of 2011 there will be 20 games released in the series since then.

The first Call of Duty game released in 2003 and by the end of 2011 there will be 12 Call of Duty games released (not counting the World at War ports on PS2 and iPhone).

The only thing Infinity Ward/Treyarch don't go in depth with is their engine modifications in comparison to DICE.

Betas really don't mean much at all anymore since both Call of Duty and Battlefield have massive development teams and test resources. Unless you are radically altering the netcode your previous beta data along with what the test teams are providing should suffice.

And betas don't mean a good online experience either, the Bad Company games had betas but they still had issues at launch. Battlefield 1943 is still pretty unplayable and its been abandoned by DICE/EA despite holding sales records.

Milking doesn't necessarily mean the volume of games... but the speed of which they are released and the level of change and innovation in each game. As I said above, COD has remained unchanged both in gameplay and quality.

Saying betas don't mean much is ridiculous. The last 3 COD games were riddled with online issues, and were some of the most glitchy games ever released. This is fact. A large development team means nothing if the final product needs dozens of patches within a few months. These games are being churned out every year, with no improvements or changes. For something that makes so much money you'd think that a better offering could be made. Activision are know for running successful franchises into the ground... look at the mess MW2 was compared to its predecessor.

You'd think that two different development teams will offer two different gameplay experiences... however COD remains the same every year. COD and MW are not separate franchises as everything else is unchanged except the tags behind them. This is the genius in Activision's marketing, and you've fallen for it. This game will be no different. Wait for the cycle of patches, complaints, and online imbalances to plague gaming websites, just like it has been with COD for a while. They can't even offer us a new or upgraded engine... even the lesser known shooters do this.

Battlefield 3 will offer a lot more, and will be different enough from BF2. In four years we've had 4 CODs that are indistinguishable from each other... that is milking.

Who are you shitting? CoD has used the exact same graphics engine for as long as I can remember. The game is going to look graphically the same as every other current gen installment.

Buddy, games change though development. It's also not the exact same engine, it's a heavily modified id Tech 3 engine. They introduced a whole new shading technique in Modern Warfare 2. It like comparing the Source Engine 2004 to the Source Engine 2007.

Uh what? A same gun means what exactly? Those two models don't even have the same texturing or the scale.

Secondly, large publishers have internal databases where studios upload game assets. Anyone else connected to the database is free to download the assets. The purpose here is to speed up internal development by sharing resources among studios. If a studio in America is working on a shooter that involves an AK47 as is a studio in England, what benefit is there to create the same asset twice? Instead, studios can simply share the one asset among each other thus saving time and resources.

It's actually not the same model, the Call of Duty: Black Ops PSG1 has more polygons. Look right below where the scope connects to the actual gun. Also it's really washed out in the Modern Warfare 3 screenshot. This is a leak though, it's as to be expected.

I love bf3 more than I do cod, but when it comes to sales, cod is going to kick bf3's ass, because cod is like the nba2k of FPS shooters, it comes out every year, with new DLC's. And its a common house hold name, so ofcourse people are going to buy it because its the NEW COD lol. We should expect this.

And everyone is going to say oHH I won't get it, and get played like the last time. Trust me, we will find an excuse to buy the the next cod map. Maybe you won't, but someone you know will buy it, and someone they know will buy it too, sooner or later you will buy it.

Im loving the slow overtaking that non-CoD fans are having over the immature, teeny CoD lovers on the net. But I really wish the sales repersented that so I dont have to keep on hearing 'Call of Duty sets new records' year after year.

To be honest I liked CoD4 and WaW's graphics in my opinion. At least it didn't look too shiny. :P I didn't really like MW2 and BO's graphics because their graphics were too shiny making almost everything in the game look like plastic. XP

Cause unlike Crapivision They actually update their gameplay every year. Madden and NCAA have had a great amount of detail updates in the past few years. But COD anyway, Looks the same every year. Just with some "New" features That you will have to pay for. Battlefield, You don't have to pay for some crappy feature that it doesn't even need. Activision is just Milking COD for its money, They don't care about the consumer.

To me cod games are like the iPhone it is the in thing at the moment and this is what people buy and will carry on buying until something else take the new wow factor. The are alot better fps games out there just like there are better phones than the iPhone but because its what they know they will keep going back to it. I'm really looking forward to playing bf3 but in terms of sales I don't see it outselling mw3 as its the in game at the moment.

people buy ff1 and they bought ff II and . ffxxxxxx just cuz they love the franchise. People have bought pacman, ms.pacman, pacmania 3dpacman etc back it the days. Didn't matter to them that it's the same gameplay, game, graphics etc. WHy is this different? If people love some franchise and are willing to pay for another upgrade they will do it, myself included. This will be my 5th or 6th COD game and i will gladly buy it.

BF3 will be my 7th iteration of BF franchise and i will buy that as well. I was vetern 6 in BC2.

SO screw haters for both franchises since whoever has fun with this game and loves the gamplay mechanics your comments will make no difference.

BTW some of you might have been into angry birds and then teh seasons and RIO ;)

I skipped MW2 and Black Ops... I rented them both for maybe 2 weeks each on a game pass and played through the campaign and had some online sessions before I returned it. GLAD I DID. I personally had more fun on BF2, currently waiting on BF3. In fear of MW3 being another reskin of old stuff stitched together, I will rent it before considering purchase.

@sak500, I personally apply this method with Madden games, etc. I may even skip 3 or more years between Madden buys. As a matter of fact, I don't own any Madden game this gen. I've rented all of them and never bought. But I do own NBA 2k11, it is what a sports title should be. 2K Sports could make a better football game than EA.

People who blindly buy into a franchise name is part of the problem. You hold every body else to a standard of excellence, but the old franchise name brands like COD get an instant 9.5 review score while doing nothing new, graphics & gameplay are no better than the last installment - and it sells millions basically $60 for a few new weapons and new map packs.

If many of you find value in that, it is ok with me. But don't get mad at people who see the con in such a hustle. It is funny because most will agree that Modern Warfare was the better overall product and has had 2 installments since. MW3 will have to earn my purchase, and all the paid review parties and overly generous review scores as a result will not sway my purchase one bit. I will try before I buy MW3. Expect all major sites to score MW3 in the 9.0s and up regardless of any issues with the game including glitches.

BTW, there is nothing wrong with Angry Birds, it doesn't cost $60 and most people got a value in terms of hours of gameplay with such a simple fun title.
