FIFA 08 review

‘Another year, another FIFA’ as the saying goes. EA rarely put out a new FIFA game without drastically changing either the game modes or the play system, fearing criticism that could arise from a lack of innovation. There’s no shortage of new modes, gimmicks and promises that the ball physics have been calculated by a man with a brain twice the size of Stephen Hawkin’s mega frontal lobe.

Pro Evolution Soccer has always been the game of choice for those who seek a fast, in-depth and remarkably accurate version of football which can be played until the next instalment arrives and tweaks the formula, striving for perfection every year. PES 2008 on PS3 feels familiar but looks next-gen – the perfect combination. It’s the game that PS3 owners have been crying out for, starved of any decent sports games which aren’t based around popular American sports.
