MyGaming takes a look at some RPGs to look forward to in the coming months.
Torchlight 2 is going to be amazing! the ultimate showdown between Diablo 3 and TL2. Who knows, it might kick D3 in the ass...
This list is missing JRPG's like Ninokuni for PS3!
i dont understan how person from west above 15 years can play JRPG,they suck since 1998,no advance in any way,F:New vegas for example pawns every JRPG made in last 10 years.get serious
The lack of Witcher 2 is disturbing. Probably my #1 RPG to look forward too in 2011. Skyrim/Deus Ex tied for 2nd.
I was gonna say that too but The Witcher 2 is out in like a week...This list is for ones coming out over the next few months and beyond
Being PC-only at this point, The Witcher is constantly glossed over on N4G. Hopefully, that isn't representative of how gamers feel about the title. But I know I feel a pang of dread when people I talk to people who have NO IDEA what this awesome franchise is.
we all know that witcher franchise is not for everyone, and that is a good thing,i hope it wiil stay PC-only,console boys need to go way and play some GOW or something that dont require intelligence for READ ME file
Torchlight 2 I'm really excited about it tempted to play through some more of regular Torchlight. Also REALLY excited about Dark Souls and though I'm in the minority here I'm also awaiting the drop of XIV for PS3.
My ones are Skyrim, ME3, Deus Ex, Witcher 2, and Kingdoms of Amalur. The latter one is based on a pure interested in concept notion by the way.
Amalur looks really cool.
thats 1 terrible list 10 rpgs to get excited about skyrim mass effect 3 disgaea 4 kingdom hearts 3ds dragon quest X gungir devil survivor 2 7th dragon 2020 paper mario 3ds the another world 5 special mentions persona 2 part 1 remake grand knight history valkyria chronicles 3 legend of heroes games tale of the last promise
@disagrees I guess rpgs of different types: action, dungeon crawling, srpg, time based battle, turn based and different settinfs :war time, mid evil, fantasy, futuristic, HELL are frowned upon. And people are only allowed to like the midevil action type. I actually gave a wide variety unlike that joke of a list @ below I cant tell if your joking valkyria chronicles is very much an rpg. you must have never played it which I feel bad for you for.
RPG genre is too generic these days, everyone classes something as a RPG like Valkyria Chronicles just because it has some half assed leveling system which involves you holding a button down to level at the end of a stage and because the characetrs have spikey colourful hair. I loved the game but it ain't no RPG, I quite like the list that site has but will most likely only go for Dark Souls. @stealth500k As it goes I have played it, completed it and thoroughly enjoyed it. It aint no RPG, has RPG elements but very reminicent of old PC turn based strategy games but dumbed down for a bigger audience.
@caseh VC is a tactical RPG . Classes, Levels, équipement, team management ...i mean how is the game not a rpg ? Each unit stat determines how the turn is proceeding .. VC is a Tactical rpg like any other .. ven your move distance depend on rpg elements
@Redemptuer "Classes, Levels, équipement, team management..." A Call of Duty game has each of the above in an online game, doesn't make it an FPS-RPG though does it?
Though not to the same extent, I actually agree with caseh. If you had to pin down a genre, it'd be more turn-based strategy with RPG elements for Valkryia. It's a great game, but it's definitely more strategy than role-playing. Now, for a contrast, consider King's Bounty. That game's style of play (combat) is pure turn-based strategy, but progression and everything else is RPG to the core. Although I suppose you could call VC as being stylistically similar to other, more traditional J-RPGs, which for the most part entail a little less choice in character progression than the average western-style counterpart. This isn't a bad thing by any stretch. I can't count the number of times I've screwed myself over in western RPGs because of a less-than optimal character build(poor stat/talent/ability allocation). Perhaps I'm mistaken, but this seems less common in J-RPGs, where a little grinding brings the character up to snuff.
@caseh last time i checked in COD games i do not have a growing ( or falling ) attack point based on where i stand , how i stand, if i'm in the grass or freezing , or if i'm allergic to pollen . Last time i checked COD wasn't a turn based game and actually COD is the hybrid , you don't see all this stuff in unreal tournament , quake , half-life.. and THESE are pure FPS.. This is the différence between mass effect 1 ( rpg ) and mass effect 2 (action-tps). heck even Sega is calling it a rpg ... give it up .., activision sure isn't calling COD a rpg ..
I Guess they didn't add Final Fantasy VERSUS XIII cause it ain't-a-neva commin' out.
can I be excited for Wkc2?
Darksouls is my most anticipated game of 2011!!! The skyrim, then Tera Then Witcher 2!!!!! wooooot rpgs!
Is Dark Souls an RPG? As much as I adore Demon's Souls - and am looking forward to the 'sequel' - I wouldn't consider it an RPG. I'd say my most anticipated RPG's would be The Last Story and Xenoblade, which both look fabulous.
@CherryLu-Chan Demon's Souls is the classic definition of RPG, just like back in the days of Dungeon Explorer etc on the Amiga. I'm guessing you were still wearing nappies back then?
Very much gaming, assumptive Ocelot [I go back to C64 times!], but not particularly with RPGs at such a time. I was curious within the question as to what made an RPG, not realising it was the levelling system that slotted it into said category. I'd presumed it was purely the story based stuff. Cheers for those who tipped the hat and educated accordingly. ^-^
As a long time fan of RPGs, it bothers me a lot that people play the exclusionary card. RPG is a very broad classification. There are many styles and they are all of them RPGs.
Even under the broadest definition, Demon's Souls is practically the epitome of RPG. Any game where you can easily find a solid catalogue of "Character builds" is generally pretty darn close to core RPG.
Geralt will slay all
The list should have been brought up to 10 to include Mass Effect 3, Witcher 2 and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
bad list .. no excitement for xenoblade ? really ? i mean seriously ? in fact i think this list is missing a W "7 WRPGS worth getting ......."
It is completely unacceptable not to have The Witcher 2 on the list. First Witcher was great and second looks superb so far!
Agreed no witcher 2 is fail.
versus , i think all know it by now... :)
Where's Mass Effect 3?!
Dark Souls, Oblivion and Guild Wars 2. Thanks
i dont know why im still waiting for Suikoden VI announcement
Diablo III Ni No Kuni
