Brink - Players Can Create One Hundred Quadrillion Unique Characters

With the launch of Brink now a week away, Bethesda are launching some interesting stats for their up and coming game.

The point is that everyone around you will look unique and you will be able to identify team mates on their visual appearance.

Also it gives you a choice in how you look to everyone else rather than just being a generic soldier.

edit: BF3 is not just another shooter man. c'mon really? how many FPS games do you know have full destructibility where you can bring down entire buildings? squad spawning? not to mention the amazing sound Dice puts in their games now...

sorry, but it's not another shooter to me.
oh and i'm not a big fan of Resistance. i played the first two, but i never beat either and they're no longer in my collection.

BF3 is just another shooter, what is so special about it?

I have yet to see a game so far that matches the graphics of BF3 with all that destruction, real time effects/lighting etc. And the game is not even finished as of yet.
Based on what we have seen so far, its the best looking game. Just the little details in the game so far are amazing. When they soldiers run, they kick up dust particles based on their position in real time. No other game does this.
Frost Bite 2.0 engine is quite impressive and puts to shame many other game engines out now

The Battlefield series kind of invented class based FPS gameplay. Without Battlefield, there would probably be no Brink.

whats so great about bf3 other than graphics and sound? nothing. same modern military themed fps we see pumped out every 3 months in the industry. im just talking consoles here. im military-FPSed out. brink, resistance 3, fear 3 all look better and more creative than bf3 to me. not knocking bf3 im just saying it doesnt look special. i may even buy it i see it for what it is: a good fps with great graphics and sound(at least the pc version anyways)

and if you disagree then tell me what's sooooo great about bf3 and so innovative about bf3. 64 players you say? mag did that and more. looks and sound that is all. ill give it has great destructable architecture but bbc1 and 2 had that

while i agree with you to some degree, BF3 will be vastly superior to any military themed FPS out. it's what all us military loving FPS kids have been waiting for, i think.

the previous versions did have the destructible environments, but BF3 will feature even more destructible things.

also... MAG... really? sorry but MAG was crap imo. the only thing it had was a massive amount of players. also, MAG doesn't have SP

BF3 will up the bar with military FPS games and games in general. if you can't see that, then you're bias

Mag should not be compared to BF3. The visuals in MAG for starters are mediocre to the point of poor. There is no destruction. No real time lighting or real time effects. BF3 you can control almost ALL vehicles and JETS. Maps are larger. More detailed.
Its not a comparison between the two. RFOM to be honest is a decent FPS game that's average.
Fear 3 will kick ass IMO

So once we rule out the amazing PC graphics (since beckylikeschocolate is on console), we are supposed to be excited for.. slightly more destructable environments? That's it?! If you can't come up with more than that then i think Becky is right, it's nothing special at this point.

...Borderlands' random weapons generator, prior to launch. I leveled up all 4 classes to 61 (with the DLC), and the weapon "variety" was very underwhelming. With all of the "millions" of possibilities they bragged about...I still didn't have a grenade launcher, minigun, or even any kind of particle/laser weapon, except for the useless Eridian weapons. Different names, colors, or mfrs. don't really change the actual weapon, or it's capabilities.

Don't get me wrong...I loved Borderlands (obviously), and have Brink pre-ordered (will drop at my doorstep on Tuesday, thanks to Amazon)...but this is just more marketing BS that is borderline false advertisement. Their definition of "unique" is obviously different from Webster's...there's no freakin' way it's possible to create that many "unique" characters.

Sure, it's possible. It's really not that hard for it to be possible, honestly.
I suck at math, but, think .. if you have five options to change; eyes, hair, ect.
With each of those five options having another 10 options to choose from..
Iduno how many combinations that is, but I can tell you, it's a shit load.
Not to mention, my numbers their appear to be really short from what you 'can' do.

This seems like a classic case of marketing distraction. How about you release more actual in game footage instead of the heavily edited 'tutorials'.

When I saw the first Brink video all those months ago I was excited... unfortunately since they started showing the characters in action I've been less impressed. It doesn't seem as smooth as I once thought it would be.

I really want it to be a great game as I'm suffering from some major gamer apathy... but my gut tells me that this game is going to be mediocre at best. I hope I'm wrong.

I just don't get it. Why emphasise character customization so much in an FPS as if it were a great thing? I mean, it's first person... you won't even see what have you created while you're playing anyway. Should it be a TPS, I would be very excited about this, but as it is... eh.

As a previous comment noted, I think its more for the multiplayer side of things for identification and variation, illustrating that you're not likely to see the same old same old constant clones in multiplayer games.

As TomInc said, it's so you don't see the same characters time and again.
It's just another (visual) way to identify your team other than by name.
And, it also helps, I think, for if you have a crappy teammate, lol.
You can see what he looks like, so when you see him you can run away! :P
Or, for an enemy who always kills you. You see him, take a different route.
I think it's a much easier way to go about things than just reading names.
