EA Claims Battlefield 3 Is “Flat Out Superior” To Call of Duty

“We know we have a big competitor,” EA CEO John Riccitiello stated. “But head-to-head with Call of Duty in Q3, we have the superior game engine, a superior development studio, and a flat out superior game. Our goal is to significantly gain share in the huge FPS category and to put the other team on defense.”

True statement is true. Sadly though better quality does not always equal better sales.

JoeIsMad4891d ago

You've got that right. That engine is great, I just hope that I can shoot through walls - I know I can blow them away, but I've never invested my time into the titles, so I have no idea if I can just put bullets through brick...

Trey_4_life4891d ago

Battlefield 3 is flat out superior to call of duty?

Heh last time i checked BFBC2 was flat out better than call of duty so this will be indisputably better than call of duty.

MaxXAttaxX4891d ago

The masses don't always buy what's better.
They will buy what has the most exposure.

DaTruth4891d ago

They should do whatever it takes to make that happen! Battlefield 3 deserves the sales that COD simply doesn't and gamers deserve to play a game as good as Battlefield and better than COD!

They put in the work they should reap the rewards!

Elwenil4891d ago

Honestly, with the "style" of playing that goes on in most CoD games, I think I prefer they stick to CoD. Battlefield is a much better game when players are working as a team. In my experience with all of the CoD games, teamwork is the farthest thing from the mind of the average CoD player. Let CoD keep them.

badz1494891d ago

started with BFBC2 and then MoH and then Crysis 2 and now BF3...come on! all these games (except maybe MoH to each of their own) are already better than CoD but sales wise they are not! when will EA learn?

I'm not bashing BF3 here as I'm also anticipating it badly but I also can see that beating CoD sales is like a mission impossible! (seems impossible but can be done if you have the tools)

TheGameFoxJTV4890d ago (Edited 4890d ago )

They've had bullet penetration in the series since 2005. BF2 has it in certain places. Places that actually make sense, unlike the magical cod bullets. that'll go through anything!

EA needs to stop the bragging and let BF speak for itself. Remember what happened to Crytek? Even Homefront sold better than Crysis 2.

JoeIsMad4891d ago

Again true, but neither were something to brag about. Homefront and Cyrsis 3 had little hype, and Homefront has only moved under 3 million units to far (shipped.) It died after the first week, essentially, when everyone figured out it sucks.

This title has hype based on the fact that it's a return to form. Battlefield 1942 stood out among the crowd, which this new version is finally doing once again.

LOGICWINS4891d ago

"EA Claims Battlefield 3 Is “Flat Out Superior” To Call of Duty"

Even if its true, doing things like this makes them sound desperate. Not a good look.

JoeIsMad4891d ago

I don't know about that. It was an investor's meeting, not just a press event. I'm sure logically it was just a reassurance move for doubters, but at least on part of the game engine, they are surely right.

thugbob4891d ago

Battlefield is better than CoD no doubt it's fact.

DICE is obviously bragging and what not to get people hyped, particularly the CoD fans. DICE is trying to get CoD fan curious about Battlefield 3. I wont be surprised if some of them bought BF3 just to see if it's better than CoD.

downwardspiral4891d ago (Edited 4891d ago )

I remember they bragged about nfs shift 2 being better than forza and gt5, and that game didn't do well. I'm sure that battlefield will be a fantastic game, but just let the game do the talking. It just makes them sound desperate to constantly brag all the time

jetlian4890d ago

sold over 2 million not sure where homefront is

M-Easy

I completely agree but i also believe that this game is flat out superior. In my mind Battlefield has always been. Now if you are looking for a arcade type fps then get COD.

But if you want realistic hands down BF unless u want a Sim like ARMA 2 which i personally think is not that fun.

Note: I just wanna put it out this is just my personal opinion not trying to troll. I have had my fun with COD myself.

ilikestuff4891d ago

looks like it is better. ill give it a go. im liking their attitude, theyre calling out the bully. i hope they knock the bully out.

saladthieves4891d ago (Edited 4891d ago )

...and I flat out agree. It doesn't take a genius to figure this one out. Battlefield 3 is coming, with an entirely upgraded engine. Activision already confirmed that they are going to recycle the Modern Warfare 1 engine, more than 3 years old, and use it for Modern Warfare 3.

But at the core of Battlefield games is what in my opinion makes this game much more superior in so many ways than call of duty. Just a couple of elements:-

1) The size of maps.

If any of you guys have played the "Rust" map in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, then you know what I'm talking about. This is one hell of a cramped map.
Winning in this map can sometimes be based on lucky spawning points and reaction time.

Spawn, and just throw a grenade, and chances are you are BOUND to kill someone. Compare this to a map like Battlefield's Atacama Desert map, and the difference is ridiculous. I've had people complain that the maps are too big and that you can find people around. Of course these guys were playing the game the wrong way.

2) It forces you to cooperate with your team mates.

This is one of the most important things I love about Battlefield which ultimately sets it apart from Call of Duty. You can't have a 10 year old with a Messiah complex playing Rambo by charging into enemy camp determined to take out everyone. It just doesn't work, they WILL "spot" your ass and own it.

Even in Call of Duty's team based matches, such as domination, I've had cases where all people care about is finding the enemy and shooting them. Forget about actually "dominating". Which brings me to another point:-

3) Battlefield encourages you to strategically place yourself in the battle and forces you to adapt.

See an enemy tank nearby and there's only a medic right there? Spawn on him as an engineer, shoot the tank with a rocket launcher. If he gets killed, pick up his kit, revive him. If the enemy decides to get out because he knows he'll blow up with the tank, kill him, repair the tank, get inside and keep on having fun.

There's so much more like vehicles, helicopters, destructibility of pretty much anything in sight...The list goes on.

It makes me sad when people immediately turn down Battlefield by saying: "Oh yeah, it's just another corridor shooter that wants to be Call of Duty" even though they have NEVER played the game.

crzyjackbauer4891d ago

you pointout that in cod everyone doesent care about the objevtive and i get what you are trying to say but thats one of the reaons that makes COD more adpatable to players
you play the way you want to play, it doesent really matters who wins ore looses as long as you got a good KDR just look at a Domination match, the team who wins is the one with most deaths, i like that battlefield is more tactical but if you dont have any budys to play with most of the tome you're going to end up with a partner who has Sh!t for brains

call of duttymakes more sales then battlefield, but battlefield is a better game.

thekidq4891d ago

I loved battlefield bad company, but part 2 took out the comedy. I know battlefield 3 is a different game but I hope EA keeps what workEd in previous titles.

Electronic Arts CEO: AI Is "At the Very Core of Our Business"

Today EA hosted its Investors Day, and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Wilson talked about the company's dedication to generative AI.

Chocoburger6d ago

He's so excited to layoff more employees for FAKE STUPIDITY computer programing to replace them.

Hopefully EA takes a nosedive just like Ubisoft is currently doing. Lack of money is the only thing that can hurt them and possibly change them.

DarXyde5d ago

Knowing EA, I think they're more likely to sell their games cheaper or make Access the only way to play their titles than change course. They seem committed to destroying their labour force.

And the sad part here is that the proof of concept is there, where games can be made using AI.

I hate to say it, but those working in the gaming industry might be cooked. And unfortunately, I'm doubting most people will care as long as they get games they want. EA would absolutely dangle Dead Space 4 or a new Burnout in front of us, developed with AI. I wouldn't take it, but I think most fans would.

CantThinkOfAUsername5d ago

If AI does a better job then yeah why not? Though, I have massive doubts it will. If developers aren't willing to put effort in their games then they shouldn't be surprised that they're replaceable.

Chocoburger4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Damn, a new Burnout, don't even bring that up. It hurts just to read those words.

The indie scene is massive theses days, but the big budget scene is mostly trash. I wouldn't mind to see these big publishers suffer or crumble away.

But that can only happen when the casual gamer stops buying yearly roster updates or whatever garbage is marketed to them on TV.

DarXyde4d ago

CantThinkOfAUsername,

I disagree. I don't believe the developers are at fault here. I would think those people don't like what EA is doing, but it's EA and they have tremendous power in the industry. Not everyone has the leadership qualities to peel off and form their own company. Add to the fact that falling out of grace with EA might just be an industry kiss of death. These people don't have any power, so I really don't agree with saying they're not willing to put in the effort.

thorstein5d ago

Now we just need to develop AI CEO and sell it to the board of trustees.

staticall4d ago

Hopefully, the only people who're going to be replaced by an AI are Andrew Wilson and his top management goons.

TheNamelessOne5d ago

And EA games aren't at the core of my purchases.

XiNatsuDragnel5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Lmfao ea needs to do an ubisoft rn

ApocalypseShadow5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Of course it is. EA has been lazy for years. Profiting for investors and themselves without putting in the work. Having AI write code or build graphics for them just makes them even more lazy.

I'd laugh if those same investors built "executive code" and got rid of EA's CEO and board of directors and replaced them with AI.

Next Battlefield Developers Are "Obsessed With Finding the Fun"

Today Electronic Arts hosted its Investors Day and its executives shared what's next for the Battlefield franchise.

ohh god, here we go!

This is exactly why the gaming industry is failing. It's now an industry of suits "trying to find the fun".

...I'll help you out a little, If you're trying to find it, then it's not fun and neither are you. move on!

LucasRuinedChildhood5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

I disagree, tbh. I definitely wouldn't classify Vince Zampella as a soulless suit. It's kind of an acknowledgement that Battlefield fell off which is why they had to bring him in in the first place. He's probably the best shot EA has of making this franchise fun again.

From a software development perspective, what I read in the article of Zampella's approach of being able to easily playtest and iterate from early on in development is a good thing. That's likely a big part of why his COD games and Titanfall were so fun.

PapaBop5d ago

Calling Zampella a suit lol! People like Zampella are the half suits if you will, they bridge the gap between art and business. Suits don't care how fun a game is, they only care about profit margins.

Markdn5d ago

It's people like you that's ruining the gaming platform, negativity already before it's even dropped

Noskypeno4d ago

20 years ago, Bungie used to have the motto "making games we want to play", if the devs are having fun it's a good sign it's going to be an enjoyable experience. If the devs are worried about shareholders, quotas, fitting in with current trends and trying to make a small percentage of the population happy, it's not an encouraging sign.

if u need to "find the fun", thats a huge problem lol

Redgrave5d ago

This rings a bit like they might be looking for a good, long while

Relientk775d ago

Do they actually mean fun, or "surprise mechanics" and ways to monetize?

EazyC5d ago

Honestly, get them to sit down and play Bad Company 2 together.

If they can't see why that had the magic, they shouldn't be game developers.

EA CEO Dubs The Next Battlefield "One Of The Most Ambitious Projects In Our History"

The CEO of EA has iterated his massive ambitions about the next Battlefield entry in the new Q1 2025 financial results.

Inverno52d ago

Clicked to say exactly this. They set themselves up for disappointing failure.

Cacabunga51d ago

When i hear them say this sounds like they keep surpassing themselves… just backwards..

micro transactions, always online, no SP campaign.. everything that makes me🤮

RaidenBlack52d ago

It ain't Bad Company 3 ... so stop false-promising ... but make it current-gen only plz ... it'll be 2025 ffs

blacktiger51d ago

damn! I was about that dream thing

Chocoburger52d ago (Edited 52d ago )

More intentionally released broken games with micro-trash-actions, and of course fake apologies written by ChatGPT instead of doing it yourself because you don't give a crap if you sell people garbage for their hard earned money.

Ass.

Seth_hun52d ago

They are always saying this, with every title. :)

Bebedora52d ago

EA is the superior do not doubt them. They are Canadian,

Snookies1252d ago (Edited 52d ago )

Isn't that the whole point of having a "series" of games? Isn't the follow-up supposed to be inherently better or "more ambitious" than the previous entries? Unfortunately, this has not been the case for Battlefield in quite some time. I've still never even redeemed the free BF 2042 code I got a year and a half ago lol. Such a shame, used to be one of my favorite shooters back in the day.

Bebedora52d ago

You just need colurs and some rainbows. Anything will work. BF was killed once EA got their filthy paws over it, like the monkeys they are.
