I tried playing Red Dead and Ass Creed for long periods of time, not a lot of fun ater an hour. Ass Creed especially because for some strange eason you can't play the game as an ASSASSIN. After you kill a target then the WHOLE DAMN CITY is alertedto your presence. It felt like I was just playing a vengful murderer.

EDIT@ above, hell no. We care about online, everyone is waiting impaiently for PSN to get back up and most of our favourtie games are MP games. MAG, SOCOM, KZ, COD, BF, Resistance ect. Sure game shuld have quality SP, but MP is where its at right now.

PS. Multiplats aren't garbage on PS3. You only see differnces in screenshots. As in still images of the game at very closeup. PLaying them side by side you don't notice anything in 99% of multiplats. People like to overexaggerate the differences between ports of the SAME GAME.

EDIT2: I didn't buy AC Brotherhood because it wasn't stealthy enough for me. Maybe I just expected more of a stealth game after playing MGS4. BTW I played the first AC before I played MGS$, maybe thats why I had higher hopes for the second AC.

jon12345169d ago

so so true, that game is really bad... well brotherhood at least

jony_dols5169d ago

Red Dead, Alan Wake, Heavy Rain, Mass Effect ect. are all great games first time around.

However I was laid up sick in bed for the past couple of days and I tried starting new games in both Mass Effect 2 & Red Dead to pass the time. And I got bored and turned them off after around an hour of play......

InLaLaLand5169d ago

I enjoyed Yakuza 3 and 4, both are single player games (2 player offline for mini games). Online never bothers me much because I mostly play single player games. I liked Brotherhood. RDR is boring.

WildArmed5169d ago

TBH, I play alot more SP-games than MP games.
Thou I do love a good co-op game now and then.

I put a lot of hours into WKC, RDR and Borderlands.
Great co-op, great SP.

I really like story-driven games like RDR, AC:B, MGS4,DA:O etc etc. They really engross me into their environment. Kinda like reading a really great book.

On the other hand, I love MP coz you can play w/ buddies and what not.

I think they are equally important. But I gotta say, this PSN outage hasn't put a dent in my gaming. If PSN was up, I'd be plaing WKC co-op; if it's down, I've been playing Mafia II, Naruto:UNS2, Just Cause 2 -- (the games I play when my friends aren't online)

jony_dols5169d ago

I love the way people diagreed with my post.

Ok then, they can obviously judge my boredom levels better than I can myself.

Maybe they should post their email and phone numbers, so I can consult them on whether I'm enjoying my life experiences from now on?

KDubyah5169d ago (Edited 5169d ago )

Lol, you obviously didn't play Assassins Creed like an Assassin.
You can kill pretty much anyone and everyone you want, silently.
There are certain missions, yes, that guards are always alerted..
But, for the most part, if you play sneaky .. you will be sneaky.

An Assassin doesn't need to be quiet to be an Assassin, though..?
Maybe, try playing as an Assassin and not playing as Rambo? Ha. :P

WildArmed5168d ago

Don't take the disagrees to heart.

Campaigns NO, but Open World or Free Roaming games YES. If we are talking about linear campaigns then no I cann't stand those anymore.

I am still mainly a Single Player Gamer but those games have to either be Open Word, Free Roaming or have a lot of randomness.

Kran5169d ago

And there are a lot of people who say SP campaigns should no longer be made.

Ohhhh how wrong they are.

Jacobite5169d ago

That would be unfair for people with no or poor Broadband connections and not everybody can be assed playing online mp games so I say their wrong to

Kurt Russell5168d ago

SP is still my favourite aspect of the games I play. I play a lot of online play too, but I couldn't do without a nice campaign. That's why I feel ripped off when the single player is only 5 hours long.

RedDead5169d ago (Edited 5169d ago )

The problem I have with this gen is that the games just don't stand up. For example i know alot of people won't agree but i find myself getting turned away or bored too quick...Still

FFX(and all previous) > FFXiii
MS3 > MGS4
GTA3 up to SA > GTA4 and Red dead imo
Star wars Kotor > Mass effect
Elder scrolls 3 Morrowind > Elder scrolls 4 Oblivion

Well this is just how I feel, I would say the difference in MGS4 to Mgs3 is way closer than the rest I mentioned though, I only prefer Mgs3 due to the story, music and bosses(The End...moment of silence for him) and the B&B where the worst bosses in the series, the were there for one purpose, to be bosses, then they give a little speech after they are beaten. The only one I felt slightly sad for was the Crying wolf and her story about her baby brother.

There are a few good games specific for Single player this gen that are good though, such as Demons souls, Valkyria chronicles, alot of people think Uncharted 2 is the best game ever, I strongly disagree as I would put alot of FF's and MGS's over it...still though I appear to be alone in this. Presentation seems to be this games only defining quality to me, and if that makes it the best then Avatar is the best film ever.

I also think Naughty dog have done better last gen with Jak and Dax and Crash bandicoot before that, this gen though they jumped into the cliche with Uncharted instead of being unique.

HeavenlySnipes5169d ago

of my opinion. I haven't played Morrowind but Oblivion is very fun. MGS4 is very very good, one of the few gamse I'd give a ten. Lastly SA is te best game of all time for me so its hard to put it up against anything.

I also think every FF is overrated except FF12. The only open world one with tons of side quests, items, weapons and unique wass of finding summons. You als couold (gasp) move while the ATB filled to give the impression that you had actual control over the characers. The story was more mature, not the usual "we have to save the world from th evil guy trying to destroy it". The nice ;quest for power and it almost corrputing the heroes was nice. That chocobo crap from FFVII waws not worth my time.

Also, Uncharted 2 i easily the best whole package I've played thi gen. MP was fun, and the SP was very engaging. I could actually feel for the characters because of how well they were depicted, not as some godly people, but as human and normal like us.

TBM5169d ago

i grew up on single player games so i will always put it ahead of multiplayer.

Istanbull5168d ago

I'm actually glad the PSN is down, PlayStation was always about singleplayer, we must go back to our origins. I hope people will find the true meaning and essence and strenth of the PlayStation brand.

Ofcourse, I love the PSN too, its part of the PlayStation family, but singleplayer above all!

ReservoirDog3165169d ago

Singleplayer to multiplayer importance to me ratio is 80-20.

Multiplayer is kinda boring to me.

solar5168d ago

give me a great SP any day. only recently has games been more focused on SP AND MP. getting lost in a great SP world is far > a MP world where your imagination cant run wild.

dantesparda5168d ago

Yes, i do now stop asking these stupid questions. For me the SP campaign/mode is the main attraction of any game

Christopher5168d ago (Edited 5168d ago )

It's pretty much 80-90% of what I play, honestly. Most of my online gaming is MMOs.

yes all the time but with steam i can choose to go online too >.>

best of both worlds

the thing is you rarely ever get a good plot with online games

fluffydelusions5169d ago

I hear with Brink you can play the story mode in MP mode

NukaCola5169d ago

Like how Borderlands works, but I hear it's really dynamic

kyl2775169d ago

yeah i pre-ordered brink. i hope it doesnt disappoint

fatalred alarm5169d ago

Yes i do, some (reach, alan wake, heavy rain, Mass effect)more than others(call of duty).

TheKindRoost5169d ago

the very reason why I play games.

tdogchristy905169d ago

^^this

The story is the reason I play, I love singleplayer.

Anon19745169d ago

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Probably less than 5% of my gaming time is spent playing multiplayer.

RandomGamer5169d ago

Couldn't agree more with you.I'm so sick of people thinking it's the end of the world when u can't play online.

I play single player games probably 99% of the time.

sikbeta5169d ago

I play Single Player games since the First one when I was a kid and it's not going to change...

There to short. I would enjoy them alot more if i didnt finish them in less than a day, around 6 hours. You wait years for a game to come out only to find you have finished it before you even get started.

JasonBloodbourne5169d ago

nail on the head mate! i hate short campaigns! bigtime! i play more rpgs now cos they're longer!

Rumors of Turn 10 being either shut down or hit with massive lay offs is on the horizon.

The issue is MS will do something right only to do something very, very wrong. And they do this what seems calculative at this point. Doesn't matter what they do the Investors and leadership want more and more money an endless bottomless pit of purr insatiable greed. A company that acts like it's broke or hurting is what really, really infuriates me. They've surpassed apple again well over 3 trillion who acts like they're a million dollar company is fk stupid. Pivots and changes for no reason and can't do things for more than a year with out a pivot or changing their metrics.

I wonder if at the top of those rumored layoffs they´ll also cancel upcoming or unannounced games while shutting down more studios as well.

He can’t help help himself, he needs to bring Sony down when the topic involves MS.
Whether is good news for MS or bad, it some how leads to Sony doing bad lmao.
It’s actually hilarious.

"just like Sony"

Gosh you're insufferable, not everything needs to be both-sides'd. Sony's had layoffs, but nothing like what Microsoft has been doing and is continuing to do.

CrimsonWing694d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I mean, no offense, but this is why you’re not some corporate business person running a major corporation. Big profits don’t mean jobs are safe. Do you understand why things like this happen:

Cutting jobs to maintain or increase profitability, especially in underperforming divisions like parts of Xbox like other gaming divisions.

Corporate restructuring and relocating resources for strategic stability in ever changing markets and consumer behaviors.

Investor expectations and optimizing operations to maintain investor confidence. Whatever boosts stock prices and improves future margins.

And there’s many other factors at play. It’s never as simple as business doing well, everyone’s safe. That’s just you not understanding at all how corporations work and have been working since the beginning. This isn’t something that’s specific to Xbox, you can bet your ass Sony and Nintendo do this and if it’s not clear by now, game development is not a stable job nor has it ever been for many. A lot of developers are contractors and guess what happens when a project is done?

Ganif4d ago

Nintendo said they have no plans for layoffs, and you can't seriously claim that the scale of Sony's layoffs most of which involved Bungie which is self managed as even close to the same scale as what Microsoft has done since they purchased Zenimax. And that significantly less layoffs would have happened if those publishers had stayed independent. Keep in mind that much of these layoffs have been due to redundancies specifically related to these buyouts.

CrimsonWing694d ago (Edited 4d ago )

@Ganif

Nintendo:

https://gamerant.com/ninten...

Sony:

https://gamerant.com/playst...

https://techxplore.com/news...

I don’t think it’s realistic to treat Sony’s layoffs as somehow outside the norm for the industry right now. Even if Bungie is self-managed, Sony’s cuts went far beyond that like Naughty Dog, Insomniac, London Studio being shut down completely, and multiple teams across the globe took hits. These weren’t just minor adjustments.

Nintendo, I had to look up and you’re right. They seem to be an outlier, but rest assured at some point it happens. And even then there’s been layoffs, albeit a smaller amount and contractors.

Would fewer layoffs have happened if studios from acquisitions stayed independent? Maybe. But even independents have been hit hard and look at what’s happened with Embracer’s fallout, or smaller devs like Digic, Roll7, or Volition. This isn’t just a “Microsoft problem” or strictly tied to acquisitions; it’s a broader correction happening across the whole industry, and unfortunately, layoffs are a big part of that process right now.

Ganif4d ago

From your article:

"According to reports, Nintendo of America restructured its testing operations, leading to layoffs of about 120 contractors, part of a strategy for global integration.

Nintendo of America, publisher of iconic franchises like Mario and Zelda, is shifting some contractors to full-time roles for better development integration."

Contractors are not employees, and even if you want to count them as that, it's 120 people vs around 7500 since Microsoft purchased Zenimax.

In an era of game industry layoffs, Nintendo is hiring more people

Nintendo CEO’s refusal to layoff staff goes viral following industry-wide cuts
"Satoru Iwata took pay cuts to ensure staff didn’t have to be let go"
https://www.nme.com/news/ga...

And as for Sony you're comparing less than 1000 total jobs to an estimated7500

Has the industry faced layoffs, yes, but that still doesn't account for the mass layoffs due to redundancies that was easily predictable, or that fact that at least 1/3 of Microsoft's layoffs and studio closures happened before the industry downturn.

Sony Faces Class Action in the Netherlands Over Allegedly Inflated PlayStation Store Prices

Mass Damage & Consumer Foundation in the Netherlands has filed a class action against Sony for inflating PlayStation Store prices.

dveio4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

My personal opinion:

Manufacturers and publishers have indeed inflated the industry.

From $700 million development costs for games like Call of Duty, to digital (store) prices for games and DLCs, online multiplayer fees on consoles (why can you play Helldivers 2 online for free on PC but not consoles?) or still preventing sell/lend digitally purchased games.

Sometime in the future, this bubble will collapse.

They should know better, but they just can't help themselves and suck even the last penny out of our wallets.

BeHunted3d ago

Because Sony knows people will be forced to pay those prices for single player and multiplayer games, not everyone prefers PC gaming. Sony also has a monopoly on PlayStation digital games. In 2019, they stopped allowing retailers and game key sellers to sell PlayStation digital games, making them available only through the official PlayStation Store

anast4d ago

The Dutch gov. wants a piece of the pie.

Eonjay4d ago

They should be suing the individual publishers increasing the prices to $80 instead of suing the store. There are plenty of publishers still selling game for like $50 with much success (like E33). But this proves that the publishers are the ones setting the prices.... so again nothing changes because they aren't even going after the main offender. How is suing Sony going to make Microsoft not charge $80 for the next COD? Sony being the number one store in the market doesn't mean that publisher have to charge us an arm and a leg. Again the industry is laughing at us because consumers never get real representation. Just these fake platitudes that are meaningless.

BeHunted3d ago

"How is suing Sony going to make Microsoft not charge $80 for the next COD"

Because Microsoft doesn't have a monopoly, I can purchase Call of Duty at a huge discount from CDKeys or other gaming retailers. The only way to purchase digital PlayStation games is through the PlayStation Store.

djl34853d ago

Weird, I swore GoW, Stellar Blade, Horizon Zero Dawn, TLoU, etc. were on the steam store....uh.....

BeHunted3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

@djI3485

I'm talking about PlayStation games that you can only purchase on PlayStation. I can purchase Steam and Epic games from 3rd party retailers and key stores.

"Sony to stop selling full-game download codes at retailers"

https://www.videogamer.com/...

Killer2020UK3d ago

About time. There is zero fair reason why digitally distributed products that you cannot recoup any value when you want to dispose of them, should be priced higher than that of physical copies that entail all of the costs and the benefits of owning.
