Bethesda has announced that Brink will be having dedicated servers available when the game launches.
Great news but I'll still wait on reviews before purchasing but I have high hopes for this game just judging by what I've seen on videos.
Dedicated servers is the way to go. Way better than P2P. Everyone can agree on that.
"Brink Standalone Dedicated Server allows anyone to run multiplayer servers for the PC version of Brink." From the comment it looks like only the PC version will be having dedicated servers. Consoles will have P2P.
No reviews for me. Day 1!
Fantastic news. A new IP and yet we get dedicated servers. Unlike the biggest selling, and highest money making shooter of all time.... Yes you know the game I'm talking about. If anyone's on the brink about getting this game, don't be. Oh, pun intended.
PC only though right? I've had this game prepaid since sept of 2010!! Lol Can't wait to get my hands on this game! I feel that this game will float or sink based on it's smart system. After all it's their hook.
PC only. standard.
Dammit. Was hoping it'd have dedicated servers for consoles too as I'm getting this on Xbox. No worries. Will be a fantastic game none the less.
Since when was having dedicated servers on PC a feature? It's like saying sound in games is a feature.
It's sad how much CoD has made this kind of announcement, since the recent CoD games are literally the ONLY PC first-person shooters without proper dedicated server support (black ops is no exception as gameservers.com has complete control of all the servers and must be rented instead of just letting users use their own networks for servers). One goddamn PC game ditches dedicated server support and suddenly they're a bullet-point feature for all the competitors instead of an industry standard.
It's success on the consoles massively hinges on whether it lags or not. There's a growing apathy amongst console gamers who are getting tired of AAA titles coming out with terrible matchmaking and ridiculous lag. I really hope this game implements a decent regional matchmaking system.. and has good host selection (unlike Black Ops & Crysis 2). If it does then I'm all over it and it will raise it above it's competitors. I have to hope that p2p is getting closer to its demise.
Well done. And now you have secured my purchase :) This was the only lingering issue for me at the moment. Oh and in the words of the mighty Bond: PAAAAAAAAAINT!
GAY....its only the PC version
Um, on the PC? When would that not be the norm?
how is this news worthy, does it make any sense to develop an online only game, and not have dedicated servers?, lol
Brink isn't online only, and unfortunately you have to clarify now because not every FPS game that should have dedicated servers does. It isn't an announcement of a feature as much as an acknowledgement that they care about gameplay and aren't in it only for the money.
I think that every major multiplayer focused game should have a dedicated server... I hope they don't close it after a year (like EA tends to do... >_>)
WTF? Why do consoles keep getting f*cked? Gamers want dedicated servers on every platform!
I know bro it sucks, on top of that console gamers even pay more then the PC version. Same game is availalbe on PC between 40-49usd. Best solution is just to get a PC for all the multiplats the PC exclusives.
Because the devs aren't responsible for PC dedicated servers. They just give the server files to hosts like Gameservers and Hypernia and they deal with the hosting and renting. Since you can't rent servers for consoles, the devs would get stuck with the task of operating and maintaining thousands of servers which can get pretty costly.
Section 8 Prejudice just announced server rentals for 360 so it can be done. http://www.joystiq.com/2011... Hopefully more companies do it on console as time goes on. Valve had P2P and hosted servers for L4D2 on 360 as well with a choice option in the lobby setup. At times P2P worked better around launch due to swamped servers though.
yea but the best part of this is that the community can host the server on their own pcs, thus no need to rent :D
Good to know thanks.
I had high hopes that this would have dedicated servers on console because the console games that the developer opt for dedicated srevers has much higher quality of gameplay. This is a game I have been excited about for a while now just like I was excited for Crysis2 multiplayer on PS3 before it came out. After playing about 8 days of multiplayer on Crysis 2 I sold my copy all because of the terrible p2p lag. But if you were the host on Crysis 2 you had quite an advantage over everyone else.
