Capcom Mystery Countdown Finally Revealed

This is a live report just released from Capcom Gamer's Day in London. Street fighter 4 is curently in production as well as Lost Planet for the PS3. Here is the full list of announcements.

Street Fighter 4
Development has just begun and the release of the game is more than a year away. No platforms are yet confirmed - a highly stylised animated concept trailer of Ryu and Ken fighting was shown, but no game footage.

Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice
A new character and new series starring a rookie lawyer. Phoenix Wright makes an appearance but is not the lead character. Made specifically for DS.

Lost Planet (PS3)
Avaialable early next year and will include all bonus characters from the PC version and extra downloadable content from the 360 version making it the complete package. Made possible with Blu-ray. 16 player online over the PSN.

Dark Void
A new sci-fi action-adventure IP. Trailer showed third-person and air-vehicle gameplay with a character wearing a steam punk jetpack, skydiving and landing in the cockpit of a gyroscopic aircraft, and then jumping and climbing through airbase fortesses.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD (Xbox Live Arcade)
The game will feature a spectator mode and is scheduled for a 2008 while the team try and get zero lag for the online mode. Also features stat tracking and widescreen. Original music from Street Fighter 2 will be used, plus remixed versions of all those tunes.

Wii Love Golf
From the Everybody's Golf team comes a cutesy golf sim, that looks slightly more technical than the PlayStation versions. Players can fade or draw the ball by twisting the Wii-mote when taking a swing.

I liked it a lot. I'm easily pleased by shooters, but I won't hesitate to recommend Lost Planet to anyone. I think most people will enjoy it unless they've become too jaded.

I personally did not like Lost Planet at all. The controls were sloppy (could be better for the PS3 after all the complaints on the 360 version) the graphics were TOP NOTCH though.

But the game itself was, to me, not fun to play in the slightest.

The other announcements seem really cool. Street Fighter 4 might be good... if it goes back to being 2D!!

agreed with what the other guys said. Played it when it 1st came out and gave up about halfway. Gets really boring after a while i thought the controls were ok but jst got bored after a while. I really liked the concept of having to get those orange things to stay warm or else you would freeze and die. I could give it another try on ps3 if they improve graphics and d rest of the other things dat were flawed but even thats still unlikely. Gimme a demo let me see how i feel about playin it a second time capcom and then i'll knw

I can tell you, that it's better than most ps3 games currently. Who cares if it's 'a year old game'? I am just now getting to Half Life 2(orange box) for the 360 and I am having a total blast. Comments like that from Predator are just taunts. The game is good!

Im playing the game now and its pretty good, its kind of a throw-back to an earlier time in gaming, but that's also whats good about it to me. I dont think the controls are that bad. They can seem kind of strange at first, but once you get used to them, they are fine (well at least for me they are). The graphics are actually pretty good, even today and the anti-aliasing is some of the best I've seen on the 360. And @ Predator, what's this sh!t about its ok if you wanna play a yr-old game? What are you saying? that games are only good when they are 1st released? And i dont think the game is too short (then again i dont wanna spend 30-40hrs playing a game!) However, i will say, that the worst thing about the game to me is how incredibly slow your charaters is, and he's running! And i cant get the game to either find people online or even connect without some connection failure happening.

that this is perhaps one of the biggest announcements in video game history. Street Fighter is the king of fighting games. Street fighter 3 was made almost a decade ago.

As much as I loved this news and the Street Fighter games, I've got to disagree with out.
This is indeed a huge announcement and Street Fighter 4 news is awesome BUT Street Fighter is NOT the king. Mortal Kombat is the king (Back to arguments of Arcade era). MK FTW!

Street fighter was the shiznit when it 1st came out on snes but i have to admit mortal kombat took their shine away when they came out with MK2. The fatalities and all that did it for me. Street fighter is still a solid game i jst hope they do a lot better with it than they did with street fighter 3

Panthers, you say MK sucked after MK2. Then I ask, what happend to Street Fighter after SF2? It DIED. SF3 bombed badly and Capcom stopped making new SFs and started rehashig, remixing and in common language milking original Street Fighter 2 with all kinds of different versions.

At least MK tried to continue and bring new stuff. True, it never got near MK2 but at least they tried and didn't fail (MK6:Deception got 8.5 from GameSpot won most of best fighter of the year and E3 awards and MK5:Deadly Alliance did so to a lesser extent).

Actually your wrong, Street Fighter 3rd Strike was the best in the franchise. But I also like Mortal Kombat. I still play Armageddon once and awhile. Still kinda cool to see that choose your character screen and see EVERYBODY. I was dissapointed with the Fatalities tho'. Oh well, can't wait for a next gen MK.

FirstknighT, I personally like SF3 3rd Strike but many people hate it and the SF played by most is still SF2.

But I totally agree with you on MK: Armageddon's fatalities, they sucked pretty hard because they were not really fatalities. They were cheap finishers devs put in the game instead of making real fatalities for each character.

4 was easily the worst of the series, but wow...was DA - Armaggeddon ever a trio of disasters. 3 was the last great one IMO.

I actually never played SF3, but I loved the alpha trilogy, especially 3(GUILE FTW!).

Sad too, I WAS a die-hard MK fanboy myself, but my loyalty ultimately lies with quality, which is something the series failed to have starting with and ever since 4.

Lost Planet was not a very impressive anything imo...I didn't miss it on the PS3 in the first place...only thing I was hoping for was either Dead Rising being ported...or Dead Rising 2 being announced for the 360 and PS3...

yay lost planet with extra crap...its still an average TPS at best...and Warhawk completely destroys it online anyway (the single player part of Lost Planet was the part that recieved the most criticism in the first place)...SF 4 I guess is cool, but I grew out of that with the death of the SNES...

Well, they don't really need to announce Dead Rising 2. You know it is coming and you know it will be multiplatform. It is pretty much a given. Just like I knew Lost Planet would come to the PS3. What I do want are resurrections of franchises long thought dead like Bionic Commando, Street Fighter, and crossing my fingers here, Megaman Legends.

All biased aside this is a huge announcement for fighting games enthusiasts, such as myself.

I hope there are a lot of 2D as well as Capcom fighting games fans on N4G. I'm sure all the fans of Street Fighter have been wanting a sequel for years.

Good call Bloodmask. Streetfighter 4 is HUGE news to fighting fans everywhere. The granddaddy of 2d fighting games is back! (at long last!) I have possibly put more time into Streetfighter than any game series including Final fantasy and their 100+ hour games.

It's going to be interesting to see whether they stay with 2D or try and make the move to 3D again (from past experiences, I hope it stays 2D) It's also going to be interesting to see which returning characters there will be. I heard a rumour a little while ago that Guile will be returning but how true that is remains to be seen. Ryu and Ken look to be a certainty but what is a streetfighter without those 2?

I am still disappointed by Monster Hunter being a huge fan of that series too but Streetfighter 4 does soften the blow a hell of a lot!

I just think that announcing the porting of a previous 360 game, plus a multi plat street figher, plus a couple more multi plat new games is something PS3 fans are downplaying. Its crazy how many hours you put into a fighting game. While I love fighting games I have put more hours into role playing games. Warcraft for istance, I have 9 months of playing time (thats time when my character is in game and actve; not idle)

I think the fighting game that I played the most and enoyed more than any other game was Soulblade getting weapons and extra stuff was just insanly enjoyable.

I think all the news in this announcement is big. Big for PS3 fans too because I do remember Xbox 360 fans rubbing Lost Planet in PS3 fans faces. :P

for once i can agree with you, street fighter is one of my favorite games in today's gaming world the people just cant be happy about the old school games coming and complain. Even if this game becomes a port for ps3 i will gladly play it because it is street fighter. I played lost planet it has a good storyline but the multiplayer blew chunks and the only redeeming thing in multiplayer was the sniper rifle only matches which were average at best.

What that means is PS3 is getting all the former XBOX exclusives plus a more superior port. So once again, 360 has LOST ANOTHER EXCLUSIVE.

360 losing Lost Planet is just as big or if not bigger than PS3 losing Devil May Cry.

When has any Street Fighter game ever been an exclusive? Closest one being Third Strike on Dreamcast before the PS2 port. This game will appear on probably all platforms, including the Wii.

Although my fingers are still crossed that Capcom's next announcement is Marvel Vs Capcom 3. I still want that more than Street Fighter 4.

I agree, this announcement is huge. I very rarely comment on posts this much but this news has me truly excited. Street Fighter 2 Turbo is my favorite fighting game of "all time". Second being the original arcade version of Killer Instinct. And of course the first 3 Mortal Kombats and the Samarai Shodown series from SNK.

I am starting to think that some people that play games these days aren't "true gamers" if they can't see the importance of SF 4 being announced.

SF was a good series back in the day. I haven't played it in a decade so I am not up on the whole fighting mechanics of the game. If I remember correctly it was a simple button mashing game. It was fun though, but the special attacks were pretty easy to pull off. The release is still over a year away so it's a little early to celebrate.

That is a megaton!! I'm a PS3 owner and I need all the fanboys to shut up about an exclusive. Who cares? We get Street Fighter 4. This is a game that should bring all gamers together for at least an hour. Any fanboy comments from either side should be shot down.

As for the game personally I hope it stays 2D because we need more great 2D games. the question for capcom is how will the gameplay? Will it be more old-school SF or more like the Alphas with "isms", what does everybody think?

The earth is about to die.. No new IP so all we're getting is 2nd rate bunked pc and junk box games. I have Lost Planet on my 360 and must say the game is short, and the online isn't really promising as some people talk about. Unless the PS3 owners are getting some more added levels or the graphics look way better on the PS3 than capcom talks out its A$$.

Well well it seems the PS3 will become valuable at the end of 2008 at last. For now its better to buy a 360.

I'll buy a white PS3 with rumble controllers @ Christmas 2008 between 200 and 300 Euro. Played Lost Planet on the 360 already, will enjoy the updated version then at the end of next year!

For the moment, the PS3 is stil overpaid for the stuff it has, or actually hasn't got. Fall 2008 there will be more to own the system for. Which is too freakin long from now on. And too much goodness on the 360 nowadays to even touch any other gaming system!

I think a lot of people feel the sameway you do, hell I used to but right now I don't because I understand where they are coming from. It cost a lot to make games on these new next gen consoles and only big development studio have the money and resources to make these games we want.

At the end of the day all these developers in the gen at least seem to be in it for the money, the only development studios that are going exclusive to a console is studios who are already owned by either MS, SONY or NINTENDO. So you really have to look at it from their point of view, yes it would be nice if they were bring us all LOST PLANTE 2 but they aren't working on the game yet for any platform at the moment for what we know.

Yeah I actually played in a Baseball card shop. The 3D version was ok. Still though with a huge saturation of 3D fighters out and coming this will bring in a great new game. I enjoyed it but nowhere near as much as the 2D ones. Street fighter was always about the balance. It is the leading example to date of one of the best balanced fighters ever and is recognized as such. Soul Calibur a close second imo.A 2D is fighter is just what is needed. I love them all. Capcom doesn't own the PS3 an exclusive? I think they do actually...DMC 4 gone multiplat and MH3 canned for PS3? Yep, I think we should get an exclusive from them. I just think that games like Guilty Gear pushed 2D games to their limits. Imagine if Capcom had went 3D a decade ago. With sequels and revisions, Street Fighter could've been up there with Virtua Fighter/Tekken/Dead or Alive/Soulcalibur, but they were scared. They knew that they couldn't meet expectations with their first 3D game. Was VF1, DOA1, Tekken 1, or even Soul Blade all that impressive? No. But today, they're amazing and untouchable. No one wants to compete with those fighters, and when capcom finally does go 3D, they may never catch up to the quality of those other games.

There are 2 types of fighters, 3D and 2D and both have their own king. I love 3D fighters but actually prefer 2D fighters. IMO Tekken is king of 3D fighters, Streetfighter is king of 2D (don't get me wrong, I love Soul calibur, guilty gear, king of fighters, samurai shodown, darkstalkers and respect Virtua fighter) but some games are just better in 2D

take a look at castlevania to see a perfect example of why 3D doesn't always mean better!

Castlevania did make a successful jump to 3D. It's called Devil May Cry. Street Fighter can't evolve in a 2D plane. Street Fighter 3 was nothing more than a new cast with better animations. a year old xbox 360 gam,e with updated graphics and pc extras are cool. and the street fighter announcement is grea, and bionic commando looks exciting. this news still has m,e underwhelmed. i cant say that i'm happy about being shafted out of MH3 for lost planet. it's pathetic. i dont wanna sound pesimistic but this announcement aint that great. and Dark Void is bound to be Multiplat and while it may be cool it's not exclusive and doesn't define a console. so again. all these announcements may be nice to know and street fighter has me excited but i'm just as bitter now about the MH3 skipping PS3. and DMC4 losing exclusivity on ps3. it seems that everybody wants money fast rather than taking risk and defining a platform.

I liked RE:Code Veronica too. Prolly just me but SF4 is imo one of the biggest announcements ever. I am completely psyched. If it goes Multiplat I will be buying it for both. So I can play against my friends on both systems. This would be the only game I would be willing to do that for.

Edit: I'm just curious is there a controller for the 360 that has a Dpad similar to Nintendo or PS3. When I play Castlevania SOTN or other old games on the 360 the Dpad it comes with is kinda meh. I bought this game on the 360 and I am not going to buy it on my PS3. Its a good game but I was expecting something new. This news F#cking Sucks, this news Sucking F#cks. Well at least they are adding alot of new content and giving Blu-Ray props. If you didn't play it on 360 it is worth a buy but we were exspecting something new. Street Fighter EX wasn't that much of a hit, other than being able to link your super moves. Street Fighter 3 was really cool though with the smooth animations frames they gave and the 2D art was badass. They should keep that art style and just revamp the hell out of it...

about this news being dissapointing. You are not a "true gamer". The Street Fighter series is the grand daddy of all modern fighters. It pretty much invented the one on one fighting genre.

If you have never heard of most of the games listed above I don't think you know what a great fighting game really is.

Hell I jump on live every so often to play SF Anniversary Collection, only gripe is that for some reason my KOF2k2/2k3 isn't BC even though it was announced as such. That list really brings back flashbacks for me when I used to do nothing but play fighting games. Especially for the Arcades. I spent countless hours perfecting my craft on Street Fighter II and Fatal Fury II. Still pissed off that Rare is completely IGNORING the fact Killer Instinct III would be a system seller to the 18-34 age range if it were released on 360.

Marvel vs Capcom vs DBZ would be something amazing. It's just balancing out the characters to the DBZ powerlevels which would be difficult. The only ones I think could compete with them is Blackheart and Akuma.

I must say this announcement is HUGE!!! But I must admit I am concerened about a few things. In japan street fighter doesn't have the same loyal fanbase that it still has here in the USA. It's popular...but old news where as here in the US...street fighter still has a very large cult following. Aside from the occassional Street Fighter anime every couple of years Capcom Japan has (for the most part) written off Street Fighter. So is Street Fighter 4 being done by Capcom USA and Udon or has the success of Capcom titles here in the west prompted Capcom Japan to finally get on board behind Ryu and company once again?

Will it be 2D or 3D....smart money is on 3D. The trailer looked like 3D models to me. Lets face it...with the exception of Guilty Gear and Rumble Fish...2D fighters are almost gone. Even the King of Fighters series has made the transition to 3D. The good news is that this title will most likely not be handled by Arika...the company responsible for the rancid Street Fighter EX+Alpha series. I hope that whoever is making this title really takes their time and makes street fighter's return the "second coming" we all want it to be. Whoever is working on the game..I hope they allow Udon to at least be involved in the project. Their street fighter comic series is fantastic.

Unfortunately I do recognize your pic its of Garuda from the aweful street fighter ex games. I can't explain how terrible it would be if Arika is in charge of this Street Figther 4: New Beginning project. I doubt they are. I'm almost positive this game will be in 3D. There really aren't that many 2D fighters anymore. Guilty Gear is almost like the last of the mohicans.

If Capcom does go 2D with Street Fighter 4 I hope they have taken notes from Sammy's Rumble Fish. That is easily the best looking 2D fighter I've seen. Its 2D sprites but they are animated like 3D models. It really looks amazing, its fun to boot.

As I stated in an earlier post I believe this game will be 3D and not 2D. Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Dead or Alive, Soul Calibur have been made it very very hard for a 2D fighter to be very successful in todays gaming world. SNK has made the transition with King of Fighters now being in 3D, Midway has too with the Mortal Kombat games. Capcom is gonna have to follow suit if they want SF4 to be a mainstream success. There are going to have to be some changes however. Hopefully they avoid the overly combo-centric style of recent Mortal Kombat titles. I think if they need to have a control scheme/combo that's similiar to the one found in Tekken. 2punch and 2 kick buttons..similiar to the street fighter of old with its 3-3 setup. The only addition I would add is a block button and to make it stand out they should have button mapping(ala Jet Li's Rise to Honor and little known fighter Kensei the Sacred Fist) where the blocks are more dynamic making fights look more like "martial art movie fights". In Kensei you still had to block high/mid and low like Tekken, VF or DOA...but instead of a generic animation...the block animation was move specific. Of course the dynamic blocking feature would have to be implemented better than it was in Kensei but from the attached video you'll get an idea of how cool it could be. The fights would be much cooler to look at and a much deeper combo/countering system could be created as a result. Just my thought and hopes about the "return of the king"

I would oflike to see "BREATH OF FIRE 6" on next-gen whether it be the PS3 or Xbox 360 or maybe the Wii(err not sure). I'm just missing the Ps3 and currently no games that warrants a PS3 plus a game, HDMI cable, warranty.

Capcom has made some of the best 2-D fighting games besides SNK, Midway but, I've decided I will no longer support the 360 and fighting games, It has nothing to do with specs/looks or the console.

Especially "street fighter" type games that require "half circle motions" with that Horrible X-Box 360 D-PAD. PS3 controller is fit for fighting games, just as, I can't stand playing a FPS with a dual shock.

By the time Street Fighter 4 comes out, I probably will own a PS3 and the dual-shock is right for that type of game and as well as Tekken type games. I love the 360 but your controller is not good for fighters of this type. Certain CONS about consoles have always led me to eventually having all 3 current consoles to fill a void.

My gaming Genre has always been:

1. Fighters
2. JRPG
3. FPS/3PS
4. Platformers

It pays to own all 3 consoles. Anyhow we'll see.

@MK_RED bro Mortal Kombat 2 was the best out the bunch. That 3 -D sh!t just never worked out. Yeah it's looks OK and all but I loved MK1/2 and TRILOGY on the N64. Hopefully Midway goes back to it's roots and with SF4 on the HORIZON, I think they will.

I felt like 2-D fighters were dieing, as arcades here in the US. Since all we have now is Tekken, DOA and VF. I still play GUILTY GEAR and MARVEL vs CAPCOM games since they were on the DREAMCAST.

Lost Planet is a great game!

I bought Lost Planet when it was released as an Xbox 360 game in early 2007.

Obviously, Lost Planet was a 100% Xbox 360 exclusive game for six months, and then it was released on PC. I bet it was like that in the contract, because that allowed the Xbox 360 to have it as an exclusive for quite a while...and Microsoft usually doesn't care if a third-party game is released aftwards for the PC, because in the end that helps the Xbox 360 anyways.

The PS3 version of Lost Planet is not being released until just over a year later than the Xbox 360 version, so that probably was how long the exclusive contract lasted for.

Here is the main problem for the Playstation 3 version:

The PS3 version will be released at a price of $59.99, just like Rainbow Six: Vegas and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2.

By that time, the Xbox 360 versions had become best-sellers, just like with Lost Planet. As a result, the Xbox 360 versions of Rainbow Six: Vegas and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 were selling for the "best-seller" price of $39.99.

What was worse for the Playstation 3 is that, as usual, the Playstation 3 versions of the games were not rated as highly as the Xbox 360 versions...the graphics weren't as good on the PS3; for example, IGN talked about all the resolution problems in games like Rainbow Six: Vegas on the PS3.

So, it really doesn't make sense to pay $59.99 for a PS3 game that can be purchased now on the Xbox 360 for only $39.99.

All of the "downloads" and extra maps for Lost Planet are now FREE on Xbox Live, so it doesn't matter if they are on the disc or not, because you can download them for free.

If you only have a Playstation 3, I think Lost Planet will be a game you enjoy.

However, if you think Lost Planet is a game you are interested in, I highly recommend getting it for the Xbox 360, right now, for only $39.99...that is a much better deal, and the Xbox 360 includes more online and offline features such as Online Chat, Rumble, and superior graphics with smoother framerates, better anti-aliasing, and higher resolution.

I'm a big fan of Lost Planet, so I guess I cannot imagine why anyone would want to wait for another version that costs $20 more, and doesn't give you Achievement Points.

To the dude above, err, PS3 Lost Planet has only just been announced, how can you state factly that the 360 version has better framerate and superior graphics? Technically I cannot fault everything you said, but you know, fanboyism! (And don't come back saying other games have so I bet this one will, my point is you're trying to sell people a console not a game)

Anyway, my thoughts. I downloaded the Lost Planet demo on my 360 and hated it, so I'm in no rush to go out and buy this for my PS3 (which replaced my sadly dead 360 - long before the 3 year warrenty stuff came in)

Street Fighter 4 could be interesting. Wonder where they'll go with the franchise, what risks they'll take if any?

I feel obliged to add that I miss my 360 and would love to replace it, but my past experiences with the hardware issues holds me back, this is not a flame comment, just fact from my own personal pov.

SF4 sounds good but sorry, LOST PANTIES is not very good. Lol, the "storyline" was really bad. However the art & graphics were pretty cool, but story & gameplay add the most, & the gameplay was VERY average. Dead Rising was a much better game.

SF4!? YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! To PS3 fans who are thinking about Lost planet it's a win/lose game. Graphics are great, controls are awkward at times, your VERY slow, like Molasses slow which makes the game hard because their is like 10 million guys shooting rockets, bullets and grenades at ALL times. Than some of the bosses are stupidly hard and are just frustrating rather than fun. Basically the difficulty has Capcom written all over it.

Because if it were SF4 would be a big deal. And as I have been saying with the PS3 you get games that are $60 bucks on your system that are $29 or less on the 360 . Lost Planet looked great and is a good game used but I would not pay top dollar for it new.

Agree, I have a 360 and PS3 and there were a few games like Oblivion that came out on the PS3 for 59.99 but at the same time you could get it used for less at a Gamestop. It does cause a little dilemma. But if you have only a PS3 i guess it really isn't a big deal. Lost Planet is a great game on the 360 and will be even better on the PS3 with all the new maps and stuff. I am more excited about Bionic Commando and SF4. Bionic Commando looks sweet.

BTW, an XBOT here at my job is trying to tell me that the PS3 can’t output Dolby 7.1 Sound for Blu-ray movies, and that the 360 supports Dolby 5.1. I believe he’s wrong in both cases but can someone here maybe clarify this for me?
