Final Fantasy XIII's Lightning Had a Sweet House

Andriasang: Entire island surrounding Lightning's futuristic home had to be "purged" due to space constraints.

Development on this area of the game world apparently progressed pretty far. Lightning's living room, bedroom and entrance all had artwork readied. The park and areas surrounding the house even had polygon model and texture data made. You could even walk around. However, due to space constraints, they the staff had to remove the entire island that contained the house.

Sigh i have a feeling the story would of been better visiting lightnings house

Godmars2905119d ago (Edited 5119d ago )

Yes, and we all know why *THAT* was *DON'T* we...

Honestly I don't care if vsXIII is on the Xbox, I just know that if I hear playable content was cut I might not pick up the game after it hits the bargain bin - and I've bought every main-line FF title day one since FFI.

That's NES for those who need it clarified.

waltyftm5119d ago

Well said, They should release a PS3 version with all the cut content intact, They could call it FF13 UNGIMPED.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi5119d ago

@walty

Agreed. Did the U.S version have original Japanese voice overs? Cuz I cant find it in the options.

Eamon5118d ago (Edited 5118d ago )

So to sum it up

Lack of content is due to file space

Bad gameplay was due to the development hell.

Although both reasons could have been responsible for each other. For example, because of the space constraints they had to change the way they implemented the combat but couldn't figure out how to make it satisfying and had to go back to the drawing board too many times.

All in all, it was probably the wrong decision for Square to start developing the game for Xbox 360 after they had already started developing exclusively for PS3. If they had made the decision to go multi-platform in pre-production then maybe the game would have turned out better.

Bad management and decision making is what led this game to fall.

gaffyh5118d ago

Yet another thing that proves the game was gimped on PS3 because of the 360 version. Hopefully FF13-2 should be a lot better because it's actually being made on both consoles at the same time this time.

I hope this freaking flop.
Show the developer that nice graphics doesn't make up all.

Scyrus5118d ago

freakin xbox. considering no one liked ff13, it shuda stood ps3 exclusive, then it wud have everything that was cut out of it.

i mean come on, the xbox got the 3 disc sub-hd version anyway. and they barely played it.

honestly xbox360 has screwed over ps3 jrpgs way to much this gen. from tales, star ocean, etc etc. its annoying and companys have to stop making them on xbox as fanboyish it sounds, xbox gamers dont play jrpgs with VERY few exceptions

Godmars2905118d ago

HD in general, JP devs inability and likely unwillingness to utilize it, is at fault for what happened with JRPGs on the PS3 and Xbox as well. Not that early urging on by MS helped things.

And then there's the asinine moe/lolita trend that's taken over the genera.

Scyrus5118d ago

this is true godmars.

i mean ff13 was gorgeous, but i dunno whats going on, the jrpgs on the psp and ds are amazing, so it seems like HD is making them lazier.

I mean I commend tri-ace and namco-bandai for making fun classic jrps, aswell as sega, but square has only made 2 this gen i believe, last remnant (sucked) and even that was the saga frontier dude not square, and ff13, which was not bad, but not as good as it cuda been.

i love the tales games, star pcean, resonance of fate, and yes even infinite undiscovery lol. love valkyria, eternal sonata etc. good games, need more of them tho

Kurisu5119d ago

Her house is shown during one of the "Thirteen Days" cutscenes, isn't it? When it's Lightnings birthday. Of course it's not a a playable area, but that doesn't really matter IMO.

Eamon5118d ago

Only the interior of like a single room was shown really.

coryok5118d ago

thats not cool SE, if half the game has to be cut because of a system they need to change something.

i dont care whats up with versus of 13-2, but if theyre not using bluray to its fullest, im buying them used. make a bigger case for the 360, i dont care, just dont make my game worse because storage issues that have nothing to do with me.

i mean im all for everyone getting to play great games, but that only goes as far as it doesnt hurt my gaming experience

Honest_gamer5118d ago

Lightning also had a sweet body god my girl friend used to be as slim as that.........4 months of being pregnant and >.< lol ah well i love her any way

Robearboy5118d ago

You cant polish a turd with a nice house, Im glad a load of content was cut because been a gamer who always tries to complete a game, i didnt have to endure more hours of shit gameplay and shit boring cut scenes. FF13 was poor

The 7 Best Final Fantasy Characters: Unveiling the Legends

While FFVII ranks highly, there's more to the series than one game. Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best Final Fantasy characters.

220°

The older it gets, the more I respect Final Fantasy XIII

Alex Donaldson: "Hindsight is a hell of a thing, however, and in the years since Final Fantasy XIII, my respect for the decisions its developers made has skyrocketed. In the two Final Fantasy titles since we see both the brilliance and the folly in alternative approaches - and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, we get a more nuanced understanding of what FF13 was trying to accomplish from many of the same development leads."

Einhander1972493d ago

FFXIII is actually one of the best Final Fantasy games.

I also sort of was disappointed at the time, never as much as the bandwagon. But really all the fantastic 3D rendered cutscenes and I actually liked the characters and the story though convoluted was actually fantastic and the ending was extremely emotional. So much budget and time were put into that game Square had such big plans, I actually have always felt kind of bad for how things played out.

I have been thinking for years how great it would be to get all three games on one disk for PS4 or 5.

Nyxus493d ago

I always liked this game, and I agree, a rerelease for current gen would be nice.

Shane Kim492d ago (Edited 492d ago )

Gotta take off the nostalgia glasses. It's the worst FF. Shiva as a bike, I mean come on.

Elda492d ago

Shiva as a bike is strange but saying FFXIII is the worst FF is not at all a fact, that's simply your opinion.

Terry_B491d ago

*One of the 3 equally bad FF's

DivineHand125492d ago (Edited 492d ago )

When I got my series X a year ago, I bought FF13 for nostalgia reasons but ended up being disappointed. When I first played it around the time it launched, I didn't have a lot of experience with final fantasy games, so I enjoyed it. Fast forward to when I played it again, I found that the game had many unnecessary filler moments instead of just giving us meaningful content.

The game is also very linear and a quote on the article said it best. "It is like a sewage pipe that leads to the ocean until it opens up on Grand Pulse."

The story didn't make much sense either and I believe it is my mistake as I played the FF7 remake on PS5 prior which is a night and day difference in terms of pacing, storytelling and likeable characters even though cloud is aloof.

FinalFantasyFanatic491d ago (Edited 491d ago )

Probably was a mistake to play any of the golden era FFs first (e.g. FF6 through FF10), it makes it harder to enjoy some of the FFs that aren't as good. I think FF12 was where major issues with the series started becoming apparent, and it just got worse from there.

FinalFantasyFanatic491d ago (Edited 491d ago )

I didn't really care for it that much, the only saving grace was that it had a better story than 15 (overall it was better than 15) and possibly 12, and even then, you had to read some of it through primers, like reading a book. Plus the battle system was reasonably fun for what it was, even if it was more the spectacle that was exciting for me (e.g. summoning). And to be fair, the 13 trilogy got better with every games, I still don't like Snow though.

Gamingsince1981491d ago

Ff13 is only good if you haven't played a ff before, or any other games that are decent for that matter.

-Foxtrot491d ago

It is in fact no way the best Final Fantasy game, it's one of the worst

Linear corridors, Cutscene, Fight, Cutscene...rinse and repeat

Dialogue and characters are pretty bad, especially Lightning as the main FF hero, they literally said they tried to make a "Female Cloud" and they failed.

Story was pretty awful

I could go on

I think the only alright thing that came from the game was the music.

Elda491d ago

That's not a fact that's your personal opinion. The game sold 11 million copies between its 2009 release up until 2014 including critically reviewed as an 8 out of 10 or an 80 out of 100. The game does have some issues but it's not at all a fact as one of the worst FF games.

-Foxtrot491d ago

Elda

Not just mine mate

A large majority

So….

Traecy491d ago

N4G commenters such as yourself aren't the majority. The game was well received.

i liked the game alot but i didnt like how they handled the terminology.

i dont mind reading data logs but it had soo many.

but i always loved the music and how it looked. the battle system wasnt too bad either.

but i like 13-2 more :)

i still dont understand why we never got a remaster of the trilogy

Eonjay491d ago

Xbox kinda did. Besides the video files of course which are still best on PS3 due to bluray.

Snookies12493d ago

XIII is a pretty solid game, but XIII-2 is WAY better. XIII-2 was one of the few games I decided to go for a Platinum trophy in, early on. Had so much fun the entire way through getting it too!

Eonjay491d ago

Totally agree. FF 13 was okay but 13-2 is my favorite FF game ever.

shinoff2183493d ago (Edited 493d ago )

I hated this to when it released. I haven't much liked a ff game since ff10 as much , aside from ff7remake. I decided to give it another shot on my series x since it's not on a current ps and was liking it quite a bit(just takes me some time to get over things ) until star ocean 2 remake came out I was all over that.

Square should definitely remaster it or something for ps4 ps5

KillerB492d ago

my favorite jrpg trilogy ever
