Here’s one very interesting rumor. Recently we’ve been hearing rumors revolving around Retro Studios, who have been responsible for major Nintendo titles like the Metroid Prime trilogy and Donkey Kong Country Returns. Those rumors state that the Texas-based developer is currently hard at work developing a title for the Wii successor (Project Cafe). And that title is none other than Eternal Darkness 2, a sequel to one of the Gamecube’s most cherished titles that sadly wasn’t met with commercial success.
Leaked gameplay footage from Nintendo and Retro Studios' canceled project titled 'Harmony' has found its way online.
Currently, the original developers are credited via a generic slate.
It's safe to say that it's the original developers who conceptualised and built these games in such a way that they're worthy of a remaster or remake today. Even if they had nothing to do with the new iteration, the dev team behind a remaster would be nowhere without the original vision – and so, the original dev team deserves a place in the credits of a remaster. That's exactly how former Retro studios engineer Zoid Kirsch feels.
Depending on how long the credits are for the current team, I can see why it would be decided not to essentially double that.
Without those original devs, there is no beloved game to remaster and put new names on. Disappointing Nintendo, do the right thing and patch it in.
The developer of Metroid Prime 4 has added some talent from Sony Santa Monica who spent over seven years with the company.
I doubt that, I think it's something more mainstream
Gaming gods, make it happen
I just picked this game up a few days ago as part of Gamestop's B2G2 free sale. Haven't actually played it yet, only checked to see the game actually ran.
Can we confirm that Nintendo fully owns the Eternal Darkness franchise? Can they make an Eternal Darkness game without Silicon Knight's cooperation?
Just because Nintendo published the first game, that does not guarantee that they own the right to future games in the series. See: All of Rare's franchises.
I'm not saying Nintendo doesn't own the rights, just that this needs to be clarified before we put too much faith in this rumor.
I really hope this is true. Even an HD remake of the original would be amazing. One of the best games of the last gen
