Chrome is by far my favorite browser, if it does come to PS3, EPIC WIN!

dangert125186d ago

Doubt it would work like chrome does on a pc but i do think it would be better then the current browser =/ and that article was great don't think the google reps would release so much info...i kid i kid

Army_of_Darkness5186d ago

I hope we do get chrome cause I don't really like our current web browser.

dangert125186d ago

I'd prefer a rockmelt version for the ps3 2bf

norman295186d ago

Just aslong as the flash dont keep crashing in it im fine with it :|

Anarki5186d ago

This doesn't brush anything off. I think it will probablyh be shown at e3 or something? idk.

Pixelated_Army5186d ago

The original story that reported the rumor just update the article to include this

MaxXAttaxX5186d ago (Edited 5186d ago )

Google could just as easily say "No it's not true. Not happening. We haven't had any deals with Sony."

But instead of "no" we got a "not announcing anything at this time" type of answer. Which usually means "yes".
And if Google is not announcing anything, then more than likely it's Sony who's going to be the one announcing it (E3?).

We just have to wait for the time to come.

HolyOrangeCows5186d ago

"I'm afraid we have nothing to announce at this time."

Very much sounds like a "We aren't supposed to tell you yet" sort of response.

RedDragan5185d ago

Would still prefer google created an email manager for the PS3. Can't complain about Chrome though but I am on the bench of validity of this coming to PS3.

Reibooi5186d ago

I would bet it's happening. The fact that they said nothing to announce at this time instead of a flat out no is quite telling. Almost anytime a company gives that response it ends up being a yes but we can't talk right now.

If it is indeed true I would bet we will hear about it at E3.

VenomCarnage895186d ago

but at the same time thats the same exact logic that kept peoples hopes up so high for Cross Game Chat to be released in every new firmware, Sony never said "no" and people latched onto that.

I would lovvveee for Chrome to come to PS3, absolutely love it, but I'll be waiting patiently for it because it will probably be awhile.

HappyGaming5186d ago (Edited 5186d ago )

I don't know about Google but Sony always says... we have nothing to announce at this time, regardless of what it is. That way people can't use the logic to work it out.

Basically if they said no a couple of times we would know that unless they said no it meant "we are working on an arrangement now" or yes.

nsnsmj5186d ago (Edited 5186d ago )

Same here. I used to use Firefox all the time, but then chrome was released, and now it's basically all I use. I think it would be great to have it on PS3.

Unfortunately though, if this turns out to be true, I won't be able to use it. My PS3 just got the YLOD yesterday morning while playing LBP2 (which is still stuck inside)....*cries profusely*

gaffyh5186d ago

Try this. Whilst PS3 is off (from switch at the back), press and hold the eject button, then flick the switch on from the back (and keep holding the eject button). It may or may not work, but worth a try. Other option is open it up yourself and take the disc out manually.

siLENTEsKI5186d ago

And if nothing works, at least Sony lowered the repair price. Went from $149 + $30 shipping, down to $129 shipping included. Got my original 60gig version getting back to me in a couple days.

Jamegohanssj55186d ago

AWESOME CAN FINALLY DOWNLOAD PORN!

TGSI

HappyGaming5186d ago

you could do that before...

sinncross5186d ago

I would love to see Chrome on both PS3 and NGP

:)

the_best_player5186d ago (Edited 5186d ago )

Opera runs well and would be best for PS3.
Wii has it

KDubyah5186d ago

Whats so good about Google Chrome if you don't mind me asking ..
I use Firefox (you ever used it?) and I think it's a good browser.
Much better than that shoddy Internet Explorer, if you ask me.

HappyGaming5186d ago

Almost everyone on here used Firefox before but almost everyone on here switched to Google Chrome...

I was like you at first I even downloaded Chrome and uninstalled it cause I liked FF but trust me once you get used to it it is just faster and simpler.

Especially with a few extensions for the download manager.

ComboBreaker5186d ago

but right now, it's missing my favorite extensions from Firefox.

KDubyah5186d ago

Don't know why I got disagrees. =P lol.
But, I've just never got around to trying it.
I'll prolly give it a go when I get my new computer.

Thanks for not being a douche about it (like most on this site, woulda).

@ComboBreaker - What extension would that be?

Bubbles, to the two of yah.

Redempteur5185d ago

the problem with firefox is how badly it maintained speed with or without extensions across the various version available.

Other than that both are pretty much the same ( without extensions)

if this happens then more PS3s will be used more than ever

TheFreak5186d ago (Edited 5186d ago )

I want Opera not google chrome, but I guess this is better than the shitty browser the ps3 has now. People try Opera it's the best browser available no doubt.

Rayansaki5185d ago

Opera is the best unmodified browser, so it wouldn't be a bad fit for the ps3. Chrome and Firefox rise high above Opera on the PC with the use of addons tho.

For me, without addons:

Opera>Chrome>Firefox

After you tune it:

Firefox>Chrome>Opera

Candlestickmaker5185d ago

Opera is coming to Sony Bravias, so Opera is a good bet.

tman6925186d ago

Love how this turned in to a browser debate... vv

Viper75186d ago (Edited 5186d ago )

Using Chrome as well, can't wait to check out the upcoming chromium laptops.

As for the news is question.

Sony seems to be in pretty good terms with Google lately. Seeing how they are putting android to their xperia phones and upcoming tablets I don't see that this would be impossible.

Google seems to be expanding their products and services rapidly to all sorts of devices. This makes Sony with all their home entertainment devices invaluable ally when trying to spread Google to as many platforms as possible.

I doubt they'll release Chrome to Ps3 tough, NGP and Ps4 would seem far better choices as Ps3 is already getting a bit old.

likedamaster5186d ago

Please, it's just a rumor. Let it go.

Besides, who uses that horrible browser on the ps3 anyway? I'd rather stick needles in my eyeballs.

frostypants5185d ago

Um...that's the whole point. The browser on the PS3 is horrible, so people want a good one. You just stated exactly why this is a good idea.

frostypants5185d ago

I'd be so happy if either the PS3 or 360 (ideally both) got a good browser. The PS3 has a browser but it's a clunky unreliable memory-leaking mess.

If I could reliably browse on my PS3, with full RELIABLE Flash support, my PC could get some rest.

gedapeleda5185d ago

Well I was hoping for a clearer answer but got the usual i have nothing to comment this time bla bla bla,LIAR!!!

I'd rather have IE9 than Chrome on my desktop. For my laptop I use FF. I do occasionally use chrome.

So I'd rather have FF on my PS3.

telekineticmantis5186d ago

I like FFVII...JK lol (sorry had to do it)

Eamon5186d ago

LOL!! I honestly thought he was referring to Final Fantasy for a moment too.

Ocelot5255186d ago (Edited 5186d ago )

chrome vs IE & ff:

-Faster javascript
-faster page loading
-much more stable
-follows 99.9% the W3C guidelines
-animated tab control
-more secure
-boots faster
-integrated flash, no need for separate download and update
-integrated 'firebug'
- integrated PDF reader, no need for separate download and update
-background-updater
-the best html5 support
-the best CSS 3.0 support

I advise you to reconsider

creamydingle5186d ago (Edited 5186d ago )

At Ocelot525

Question before i change from ff does chrome have Adblock plus or something like it?

kyl2775186d ago (Edited 5186d ago )

Flash is only needed to be installed once, I can manage that
IE9 loads faster than Chrome on my PC
A PDF reader is no reason to change browser
Page loading is fast enough for me
Firefox is secure enough with No Script and adblock
I have no need for HTML5 at the moment
Animated tab control is not a valid reason to switch

None of your reasons are strong enough to make me change back to chrome as my main browser, it's good but I prefer IE9 and FF.

IE9 has pinned sites which I love.
Firefox has more and better add ons.
Firefox does syncing better.
Firefox does bookmarks MUCH better.
Having a seperate search bar means I'm not flooded with tons of search recommendations and instead i see past visited sites.

Chrome uses google too much. In FF if i typed N4G and pressed enter I come to N4g, do the same on chrome and I get a needless google search of N4g.

creamydingle5186d ago

sweet thanks ocelot525 ill give chrome a try

just_looken5186d ago

i advise to lookup gmail spyware google keylog google desktop security issue etc google has 2 much privacy issues

gamingdroid5186d ago

Yeah, I don't trust Google when it comes to my privacy.

However, I use all 3 browsers: IE, FF and Chrome. Chrome seems most resource efficient, while IE has the sleekest interface and FF has the most features.

Pick your poison, but I don't limit myself to anyone particular.

MisterAV5186d ago

firefox is completely customizable, chrome no.
Chrome has much simpler extension, preventing a good adblock because google earn on ads.
Also on speed it's only some ms ahead of FF 4.0 and it doesn't have full HW support. And background updater means background services on PC, no thanks...

Frenza5186d ago

Well, chrome is the only browser that sends information to it´s devs without you knowing it..

Finger-Eater5186d ago

Actually the new Firefox 4 that just came out is a hell of alot faster.

Kyur4ThePain5186d ago

@vstep....well, now that you told everyone, that's no longer true, now is it?

gamingdroid5186d ago

"Well, chrome is the only browser that sends information to it´s devs without you knowing it.. "

Really?

Can you provide a source? I couldn't find anything specific about this with ironically a Google search.

Theonetheonly5185d ago

I can vouch for vstep chrome sends info a lot of places without you knowing it. google has ties to cia and nsa, google (ironically) "google cia" see what comes up. been floating around for awhile now.

on another note
firefox just stamped the pants off my IE9 which is hadware accelerated but firefox takes the cake it does 1080p 3d graphics at 60fps in browser using html5 and other extensions much better than ie9s 1000 2d fish its all in the firefox test drive area.

Chrome is really good but it eats lots of system ram. And when I say a lot the amount it's pretty crazy. You can always Google it if you don't believe me cus I've seen lots of people saying that FF uses more ram and that is a lie. From all the browser Chrome uses the most amount of ram and FF uses the least amount of ram.

Chrome use a lot of ram cus everything is sandboxed for security reasons.

"Firefox 4 was the champ, utilizing the least amount of memory (148,020 kb) during the test. IE9 followed with 205,616 kb used. Chrome required the most memory (390,532 kb) to complete this task." http://www.huffingtonpost.c...

Look at that, Chrome use x3 times the ram than FF to do the same task. =/

"Honestly, I'd probably switch to Chrome, but I keep 40 Firefox tabs open all the time and unfortunately Chrome uses more memory since it uses separate processes for each tab." http://blog.tmcnet.com/blog...

Memory usage charts for each browser: http://www.tomshardware.com...

rabidpancakeburglar5186d ago

Seems like the routine PR response but I like the fact that the statement gives the impression that there might be something in the early stages, probably means nothing though

Claudinho695186d ago

likethey were gon confirm/announce it by replying to that website....by now sony is saving everything for e3 or something like that

Epic: Mobile Gaming Business "Largely Broken," Says "Dysfunction" Due to 30% Tax From Apple, Google

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney notes that the mobile gaming industry is "largely broken," and blames the 30% tax levied by Apple and Google.

Christopher306d ago

Man has been saying this for ages and knows full well the only thing he wants is more money at Apple and Google's expense and absolutely none of this will result in lower prices for the consumer.

Tacoboto306d ago

He expects the digital equivalent of opening up his own store inside of a Walmart or Target. It's absurd.

And he feels absolutely entitled to it, in a too-big-to-fail sense - because Unreal Engine is used by so many developers, banning Epic would hurt those developers relying on their tech, which would be super unfair to the developers.

Notellin306d ago

Thank goodness you are there to defend the small guys Google and Apple. You're so brave, Christopher!

Christopher305d ago

Yeah, I'm totally defending Apple and Google and not explaining how another company is just as greedy. That's the big takeaway from my comment, Apple and Google good, only Epic bad. Yup. I totally didn't make it about the fact that this man just wants more money and isn't doing it for the consumers. Nope. Not that at all. I'm just praising up Big Tech. They're my one and only love in life. Please recognize me Big Tech Senpai!

VersusDMC306d ago

The epic games store charges a 12% tax and has been losing money for 5 years...that sounds dysfunctional.

gerbintosh305d ago

They are only losing money because Steam has a stranglehold on the market.

Christopher305d ago

It's a play to attempt to win over the market so they can then realign pricing with what Steam has in the long run. The problem is they are doing only that and not actually building a better software supported platform on PC. Essentially, they're throwing money at the problem, not actually trying to compete by providing better service.

Epic Says They Spent $1B in Fight Against Apple & Google, "Small Price to Pay" for Freedom of Market

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney revealed that they have spent $1 billion fighting Apple and Google but adds it's a "smam price" to pay for freedom.

BeHunted309d ago (Edited 309d ago )

Fortnite on the Google Play Store would've generated over $1 billion in percentage fees for Google. Smart move.

1nsomniac309d ago (Edited 309d ago )

I buy most my pc games through epic now. Don’t get me wrong I love steam and steam has had a lot of my money for the work they put into the platform. But i like what Epic are fighting for and they’ve been open about it from the very beginning. I wish they would sort out their verify/repair files option for when you format your drives. The whole rename/redownload hack is an absolutely awful archaic solution.

Tacoboto309d ago

They've been open about how they so openly violate the terms of the platforms they distribute on.

They spent over a billion on legal battles, and also had significant layoffs. Maybe they should cater to their employees first before forcing governments to add more regulations for industries governments just do not understand. The EU DMA - Apple's policies and lawyers have made a mockery of it every step of the way.

And back when they openly and proudly violated Apple's policies, they tried using Fortnite to coerce its players (including children) to rally against Apple's 30% fee.

Which is the same 30% fee console makers apply, but Epic has no problem with that! Epic isn't fighting for you, they're fighting for themselves and don't mind siphoning the money they get from Unreal, even if it results in layoffs.

1nsomniac309d ago

First of all you’re wrong, but second of all you clearly don’t know an awful lot about what you’re talking about.

Tacoboto309d ago

Epic proudly violated Apple's terms by introducing their own payment option in Fortnite. Fact. That's literally what started this. Epic then went on to put banners in Fortnite as a not-so-subtle call-to-arms against Apple.
Epic also violated console terms by enabling cross-platform play in Fortnite. Fact.
Epic cut 800 jobs a year ago. Fact.

Epic sucks, their engine is too big for them to fail and they know it, so they're using that to subsidize their legal battles against Apple and their attempts to rally international governments into creating regulations based on what *they* want.

phoenixwing309d ago

Epics launcher is a piece of crap compared to steams. In fact every launcher so far is crap compared to it. The only reason epic has any traction is they literally give away games in order to drive a user base.

anast309d ago

They have some good semi-giveaways.

KwietStorm_BLM309d ago

They'll make that back in a fortnight.

People are hollering, but I expect the game to be a gem. We'll see. Could be wrong, but I don't think so. I don't think Bioware can afford another EA FUELED dumpster fire though

Are we talking about the same thing?

TheNamelessOne312d ago (Edited 312d ago )

N4G probably N4Gd again. Never happened to me, but I see a lot of people mention they somehow post on articles they didn't mean to. Not sure if it's them, or if it's the site itself, but it tends to happen a lot on here.

gold_drake311d ago

haha
this definitely happened to me once xD

u scroll down abit too much, end up on a completely different article and lost watever u wanted to on the other

FinalFantasyFanatic311d ago

@gold_drake,
I'm not a fan of the endless scroll feature, it reminds me too much of social media sites like Facebook and Instagram. I can easily see how someone would accidentally post on the wrong article.
