The Elder Scrolls Evolution: Oblivion vs. Skyrim Screen Comparison

GameDynamo - "Undoubtedly, Oblivion was a gorgeous game for its era. In fact, it was the first truly next-gen console title. Going back and playing it now, it is amazing how well it has held up over the last five years. That being said, the once brilliant texture work and sweeping vistas are now rather commonplace and even far surpassed by most contemporary adventure games."

Cannot wait! New engine, better leveling, dual wielding, Dragons, sprinting, better stealth, finishing moves, art style more like Morrowind, better faces, need I go on? I am so freaking excited for this game!

ABizzel14769d ago

Not my kind of game, but I can give credit when credit is due. The change in graphics is very noticeable, and Skyrim is one of the best looking Open World games I've ever seen. Now give me a game as open as thins with gameplay similar to the best hack and slash, then I may have found my dream game.

@ ABizzel1: You might like Kingoms of Amular: Reckoning.

Look it up on youtube and watch the 20 minute gameplay demonstration. It has hack and slash elements.

Anyway, bring on Skyrim!!!

ABizzel14769d ago

thank you aPerson, I'll check it out.

Why do people disagree, because you don't like something? If it's not my kind of game it's not my kind of game, whether you agree or not.

jneul4769d ago

mmmmmm drools..... very nice improvement!!!
now just to see how it runs

DangerTick4769d ago

I prefer Oblivion.

Bethesda made the mistake of making the 360 the lead platform for Skyrim so I'm not going to bother with the game. I'll just buy Uncharted 3 and save the money I would've used on Skyrim to put towards Uncharted 3's DLC and maybe a 3DS game.

warrior99884769d ago

really 360 lead platform ugh!!

MAJ0R4769d ago (Edited 4769d ago )

the game still looks dated, fortunately there will be mods on the PC to fix this

blackhammer4769d ago

Screenshots weren't compared very well since the color tones are different, but it's clear that Skyrim appears to establish more atmosphere than Oblivion. That first screen had me in a bit of an awe.

It's gonna be awesome to mod the crap out of this game. Anyone in for a game of... pokemon?

If this is true, I hope it leads to Morrowind getting remade next.

-Foxtrot7d ago

I thought they’d go for Morrowind first to be honest but this is a welcoming surprise to tide us over before ES6

TheColbertinator6d ago

Well said. Exactly my thoughts too.

Tedakin6d ago

Unreal Engine isn't efficient for open world games, so I question the reliability of this story.

isarai6d ago

Yeah, 1st thing that came to my mind too, although i CAN see it being likely for ease if use, but it's not going to run very well if so

Tacoboto6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I'd wonder if it would just be exploiting Unreal for graphics but the underlying engine/logic is still the original framework.

Like how we had the graphical remakes of Halo Anniversary, Tomb Raider I-III, and Demon's Souls.

Could also end up a disaster like the GTA Trilogy

mkis0076d ago

I have heard that too but even if it's modified isnt arkham knight UE?

Fragslayer5d ago

"remake will run both an Unreal Engine 5 project and the old Oblivion project. For instance, new graphics are rendered in the Unreal Engine 5 project, but most of the gameplay and physics are still done on the original Oblivion engine"

So with this logic it'll run just fine using UE5 tool sets on top of Gamebryo's engine or maybe even Creation Engine, who knows.

Hopefully modders can fix the aged combart in this game if this is true. Enemies leveling up with you broke and defeated the whole purpose of leveling up.

Fragslayer5d ago

Yeah it could use some tuning for sure hence the need for a Remake not a Remaster. I'm surprised it's even a conversation within them group which makes me skeptical it's Oblivion. I wouldn't say they shouldn't level up at all though maybe just a leave them a couple levels behind to appease the masses.

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast21d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22921d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko21d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave22d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan22d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
