So, the question for all Thunder Force fans concerns the game's difficulty, something that every shoot-them-up masochist thrives on. Will you bleed out of your eye-balls, curled into nothing more but a pathetic lump of flesh in the corner, knowing that you'll never, ever beat that damn boss on Level 3?
Despite being too short, Thunder Force VI is the kind of game that is missing today. In a world dominated by 3D and high definition gems like this are worthy of admiration. Hopefully it will not be forgotten and one day it will reach the West through Xbox Live or Playstation Network. The real fans of the franchise will love this sequel.
The Thunder Force series have come a long way, competing with other popular series like Gradius, R-Type and Raiden. With the variety of weapons, bosses and stages, this sixth installment would be worth the import!
Tez Okano has some experience of cult classics: he's the director behind the likes of SGGG, Astro Boy Omega Force and Gunstar Super Heroes. But in Sega HQ, in the appropriately named Ohta-ku south of Tokyo, he's talking about a new business model. One that might keep a failing genre alive and, if Okano has his way, one that might see a few more classics revived. Edge sat down with the director of the PS2 title Thunder Force VI to discuss aiming for the core.
I am a huge old-school shooter fan. I am glad that they are resurrecting the Thuder Force series. It was one of my favorites. I also liked R-Type, Radiant Silvergun, Gradius..too many to list.
Sadly most developers probably thing there isn't a market for these games anymore.:(
Was originally the phrase geared towards space shooters (shmups) befor the first person genre came around. I am a huge shooter fan with the like of top down and side scrollers. I even like the varying angles of the game philosoma. You play top, side, bottom, front and back.
It would be sweet to see the likes of galaxy force or space harrier (planet harrier too) or even games that were canceled (geist force) come back and resurect the shooter genre.
For some of the best shooters in the genre it is best to check out the saturn. Dreamcast runs a pretty close second though.
