DICE: Our competitors are getting lazy. We're coming for them.

Battlefield 3 developer DICE has thrown down the gauntlet in the raging battle for first-person shooter supremacy, warning its rivals: We're coming for you.

Speaking in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine - which is arriving with subscribers now - DICE general manager, Karl-Magnus Troedsson was more than confident in his stunning FPS, cautioning the competition: "they had better watch out".

I agree. It's good to hear devs have this type of attitude, but it's even better for them to back it up. DICE has done that so far and from what I've seen of BF3, they'll do it again.

it's hardly "Smack talk." it's confidence...and i think they deserve it. especially since they can back it up. and what is their competition doing? milking the same tired, boring engine for all it's worth...releasing the same crappy game year after year.

I totally agree... for me it's an old school thing. We use to have a saying back in the day of playing sports (70's-80's), which goes like this... "it ain't called braggin' if you can back it up!".

There is however a fine line though, make sure not to over do it, that's called gloating which usually has you getting your butt kicked... but a small competitive jabb here & there was always acceptable.

That engine and 'formula' Dice is mocking earns upwards of a billion a release..

I remember how EAs we want to be the next 'Call of Duty' talk turned out for Medal of Honor. (even with the assist from DICE)

That clip from B3 looked amazing and I love the Frostbite engine..but at the end of the day you have to release your game to the critics and the public.

Time and Time again we see even the most anticipated releases not turn out as originally hyped.

But, only time will tell..but don't sleep on Infinity come November

Well talk is cheap, because i would say that DICE was pretty lazy when it came to putting a decent amout of content in both Bad Company 1+2. Heres hoping that they actually come out with a winner.

That's where you are wrong. DICE has released a FREE map pack with 2 NEW MAPS and 2 REMADE MAPS. Also, They made BFBC2: Vietnam FOR ONLY 15 Dollars! That's 8 maps, new guns, new era, new vehicles, new skins, and new music for $15.

That's content worth paying for.

First off, the Vietnam add-on has 4 maps. I'm not saying that the game was poor quality, but it took 9 months for the Vietnam add-on to come out. So Vietnam was $15.00, and Onslaught Mode was $10.00 and it took 4 months for them to release that. It took 5 or 6 months for Dice to release those two BC1 maps. Its fine to be a fan of the game, but at least look at things logically.

Now, I'm not going to say that MW2 is better than BC2 or vice versa, but when you look at what MW2 released with on day one, BC2 still doesn't match the amount of content that MW2 has. Lets take a look at it, and if you want to disagree because you don't like it then thats your choice, but it doesn't change any facts.

MW2: 16 maps (playable with all game modes)
BC2: 8 maps (Not playable on all game modes)

MW2: 2-player co-op Included(23 missions/maps)
BC2: 4-player co-op $10.00 (one co-op mode/4
maps)

MW2: 12 game modes
BC2: 4 game modes + Co-op for $10.00

MW2: 2 Map Packs $15.00 each c/w 5 maps each
BC2: 2 Map Packs, One free map pack c/w 2 maps and Vietnam add-on which has 4 maps for $15.00

Total maps:

MW2: 26 maps
BC2: 14 maps

Total Game Modes:

MW2: 12 modes
BC2: 5 modes

As you can see, and you check the numbers yourself if you like, BC2 was a bare bones game. Games like Rainbow Six Vegas 1+2, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, Resistance 2, CoD: World at War and Uncharted 2 all came with more content that BC 1+2. The first Bad Company was a joke when they released it with only the Rush game mode, and then it took them 3 more months before they brought out Conquest mode.

Bad Company 2 isn't the only game that I'm critical of, as I don't think that Killzone3 came with enough content either. Killzone 3 comes with 8 maps, but if you preordered it you got 2 retro maps extra. Also with Killzone 3 there are only 3 game types, Warzone, Guerilla Warfare and operations. Depending on how much content Battlefield 3 gets released with, will depend on whether I wait a year for the Game of the Year Edition or not.

I wish people would stop being fanboys and start to hold developers to account. I'm a Killzone fan and I'm a Socom fan, and I'm critical of them both. Especially with Socom and how much they are changing the game.

When people buy a game they want to know that the developer went all out to make the best possible game they could make for them...

You don't want to hear that they were lazy and didn't even consider making it work sweet on your platform.. -because they are still going to charge the same, it's not like we get the 40 buck version..

So this is all we have been asking for -make the best possible game your company can make at that point in time and we will support you and buy the game in huge numbers.. -and that's a win win..

DICE -My BF3 is already Pre-Ordered, because above all other developers I trust DICE to always deliver the Goods... (I bought the first Battlefield they came out with on 360 and I bought BAD Company 1 & 2 and I always feel like I get my Moneys worth, hands down)

(I will always buy their games as soon as they are announced) &DICE is the only company I do that with.. They have earned that honor..

If you played Bad Company 2 the one thing I never hear people say is, "this was not worth the money.." -and just because of that fact, you should have already Pre-Ordered your BF3 Copy..

If you have played both franchises, you would know they are totally different, only that they are fps, and CoD is now in same setting that BF have been for years. CoD is hectic shoot shoot shoot game, fun indeed, but BF is about, well, about the battlefield. Huge maps, big battles, destroying environments, team based class/gameplay, air-, water-, and land vehicles, etc..

Dice have been improving and improving with each game, but after played latest 4 CoD's (don't own any of them tought), I have to say they feel minor updates rather than sequels. And there's new one each year...

However, I can't forgive them for the abomination that was Bad Company 2's campaign. All they did was make fun of Modern Warfare 2...which had a MUCH better campaign.

Other than that, DICE is golden.

I really liked the campaign!

The characters are great, the conversations they have in-action are funny and interesting and adds to them. The story was well told and a slight deviation from nukes, nukes and more nukes. And the AI on the hardest difficulty was pretty damn good. The amount of flushing they would do when you stayed in cover for more than 10 seconds was awesome.

I played maybe two or three levels of the campaign, it was fun, well with frostbite blowing shit up is always fun :D

But then I realized I could be playing MP, which is what BF are. Never went back to SP. I'm not saying I didn't like the SP or that it isn't good, but the MP is just so freaking superb and fun.

The main reason for singleplayer campaign in BF is that it shows all the tricks (flying copter etc..) for mp for new players, so it's good it's there.

In the bf3 gameplay footage, it seems they're really implementing squads, I mean real military feel....that you're not the hero in the game on which you alone are the real significant person just like in CoD games...

Battlefield 2 started the whole middle east modern warfare genre and Battlefield Vietnam took it there first. Call of Duty is only jumping on the bandwagons that DICE started.

COD and BF are two totally different games with COD being arcade/casual action while BF pushes the WHOLE FPS genre forward with every release.

DICE is telling the truth! DICE makes innovations every time out while most other developers simply copy and paste. If I was DICE I would realize that COD is not their competition as the BF series fits nicely into it's own category between MilSims like Arma II and arcade/casual games like COD.

Everybody has a COD clone but there is only ONE Battlefield that no one has the balls to copy.
