Hideo Kojima confirms he is safe and well after Japanese tsunami

After today's tragic 8.9 magnitude earthquake and tsunami on the east coast of Japan, Hideo Kojima has confirmed on his twitter that he is safe and well, with a tweet that simply said "I'm alright."

When I woke up this morning and when I saw the Japan's earthquake breaking news, believe me or not, this man safety was one of mine first concerns...just because i love this guy's games ALOT.

My concern as for the devs right now is for Team Ico, they have been working ages on The Last Gaurdian, and they are based at the very top of Sony Studios. That must have been shaking like mad up there, just hope they didnt lose any of their work which they have spent so long crafting. I should think as for their safety they would be ok being in Tokyo

An earthquake that was LESS than the one that hit Japan strikes Haitai and all hell breaks loose. Rampant rape, murder, looting, catastrophic death, bodies in the streets, etc.

A hurricane hits New Orleans and we get the same thing. Murder, looting, rape, etc. And this is AMERICA we're talking about.

A HUMONGOUS Earthquake hits Japan, and we're talking about less than one hundred dead and no reports of the crimes listed above.

My heart goes out to the people of Japan, but if a catastrophe were to happen, I suppose I'm glad it happened to one of the few nations in the world that evidently have their act so well together that they can handle it without things deteriorating into anarchy.

Japan is prepared for this, buildings are built with defence against Earthquakes. Haiti also had it WAY closer to the surface.

The US is just fu**ed up...nah really the Hurricane had a much bigger impact.

This could have been way worse aswell. Japan was unlucky to get hit but they're lucky the Tsunami wasn't any bigger. It could have been way worse. Especially from such a big Earthquake.

Update: CNN just reported that in just one town along the coast that 200 to 300 bodies have just washed up on shore.

Japan will recover in weeks? As much as we all hope that will be true, I can't see that happening. The sheer devastation and amount of debris (entire buildings and ships have floated inland) will take months to clean up. The economy might bounce back, but for the people directly affected it will take a while.

And I hate to rag on Japan, but stop pretending its a magical fairyland filled with people who have nothing but good intentions. Sadly, there will be the minority who take advantage of this situation and use it as an excuse to loot and commit similar crimes. It doesn't matter what country it is- When there is chaos, there will always be the scumbags who take advantage of it.

Some people are now homeless or orphaned - they have probably lost everything in an instant. I hope a relief fund is setup for these people where they can actually get the money/relief.
