Dreamcast Collection Is A Joke

Sega clearly has no idea what their customers want - or even what they already have.

yah and a compilation would have been a better title for this game. its not that the games are bad its just when you say the words dreamcast collection you automatically think of some of the best titles the system has to offer. not to mention a few gamers already bought sonic and crazy taxi when they were released earlier in the year. kind of a poor selection for what games they went with.

I had all of those except Space Channel 5. Fun, but not great. I also heard a rumor that Crazy Taxi doesn't have the original soundtrack. GAWD I hope that's not true!

BTW, if they put Shenmue 1 & 2 on STEAM Dreamcast fans would be jumping all over it. Let's be hopeful!

It doesn't have the original soundtrack. That was the worst port i've ever been privy to. The soundtrack was scrapped and so were the original levels. They're TOTALLY different; and the graphics and controls are horrible compared to the original. The only thing that didn't piss me off was the price. I had PS+ and I got it two dollars cheaper.

yah i think there was a licensing issue with crazy taxi. they had to remove the original soundtrack and the ad placements like kfc.

They always pull a stunt like this. Save their best games until last. When Xbox live arcade launched you got shit like Frogger for about six months. Give you the oldest and lamest games first, well you're not going to buy them if they give you the awesome games first are you. If Sega gave you all their best games on this disk you would have no reason to buy any other games from them.

It makes good business sense, but it's a dirty thing to do to gamers. Holding back your best games is low.

No powerstone because that is Capcoms game, not Segas as far as I know. Shenmue is also part of an unfinished trilogy so I wouldn't be overjoyed to see that on there either...

Yea, the exclusion of Powerstone is shameful. My guess is that there were some licensing issues that prevented some of the more sought after titles from being included.

Second, the title of the game is "Dreamcast Collection," not, "Collection of Dreamcast Games that Sega Owns." Perhaps there is some level of implication that a collection like this would be only for games owned by SEGA, but even having said that, *there's no reason why people shouldn't be able to voice their disappointment with the games included.*

To show some contrition, perhaps he could have named the article differently, but as it is I believe the author simply wanted to highlight some of the better games on the system that weren't a part of the collection.

I'm guessing you didn't play the SEGA Genesis Collection. The games released on that were all SEGA owned games. Why would they put a game they don't own(Powerstone)in a Dreamcast collection when they would have to give Capcom a cut of their money? That being said, there were still a bunch of SEGA made games on Dreamcast that should have been added.

That's fair enough. From a business perspective I can partially understand. Though I do wonder if the game would be more profitable if they did include some heavy-hitters from 3rd parties. At least then there would be more interest.

The future "Dreamcast Collection" releases should be interesting given the number of quality titles that were left off of this initial release. It just wasn't a good way to kick off their re-release campaign in my opinion.

Yes, I write for a SEGA fansite. Do I think that the collection is the greatest? Of course not. A joke? Nope. Its a collection of DC games released thus far on XBLA. Outside of Bass Fishingthe other titles where good. Space Channel 5, Adventure and Crazy taxi are solid.

Space Channel 5 has a big following in the SEGA community, most people I know bought the collection just for this title. Sonic Adventure is one of the highest selling and scoring DC games. Crazy Taxi was a high selling title that got a 'Superstar' label (SEGA's version of Greatest Hits).

The best it could be? No. A joke? Of course not. This is going to have more volumes.

They need to fix that screen resolution(which won't happen bc ....forgot why they can't do it), Sonic adventures 1&2 is probably the last few good sonic games, everything console-wise after it kind bomb

Sonic colors, was actually pretty good unlike the previous titles and sega did a better job utilizing the wii technology.

Sonic episode is pretty good from what i heard.

if sega going to releasing more sonic games they need to do public beta first.

I do wish Power Stone and or Time stalker was in the collection not only them but San Francisco Rush 2049(originally a n64 title then re-release on the dc, but still was fun to play)
