Review: Sonic the Hedgehog (PSN), or a painful tale of gouging the faithful | Digitally Downloaded

The original Sonic the Hedgehog is, quite rightly, a genuine classic. The speedy little blue hedgehog’s breakthrough release has since been released in just about every classic compilation on every console Sega could think of, including – now – the PlayStation Network.

... Enough is enough, and anyone who actually pays to download this is getting a raw deal considering you can get the game, and a whole host of other games on the retail (or even PSP download) release Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection. As part of a compilation, you'll be paying a fraction of the asking price of this here download.

So, it's a great game but you don't want to have to pay for it, so give it a low review score.

How about you give your opinion on the game and let me decide how to spend my money. I hate when reviewers can't be bothered to actually review a game.

MattS5164d ago (Edited 5164d ago )

How much of the review did you read? The point was that while it's a great game, you probably already paid for 3,4, 5 different versions of the same game, so spending money once again on a pretty lazy port is pointless.

So the low score is then to discourage people from playing what the reviewer thought was bad value. Which is, really, what the point of a review is.

OneSneakyMofo5163d ago

But did those other 5 versions have trophies? Nope.

5/5 from me :)

ButterToast5163d ago

This guy should have wrote an Opinion piece not a review. I don't want a review telling me what to do with my money, just tell me how the game plays and judge it on that merit. I'll judge the price point for myself.

I got it and soon to be Sonic 2 with PS+ so I'm pretty happy. Too bad they're not giving away Sonic 3 though.

nevin15163d ago (Edited 5163d ago )

lol, I have the Sonic Mega Collection for PS2.

NJShadow5163d ago (Edited 5163d ago )

Best Sonic collection EVER! I'm still ticked that Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on the PS3 didn't have Sonic 3 & Knuckles (Combined). That's how you get the whole story! >.< (And the super emeralds, Hyper Sonic, Hyper knuckles and Hyper Tails!)

showtimefolks5163d ago

so i am covered either way

NJShadow5163d ago

Same here. I'm a sucker for the Sega collections. >.<

Infernostew5163d ago

Maybe it's just me but did anyone else have problems with the responsiveness of jumps? Something felt real off to me unless my controller needs so tuning.

cantsleep5163d ago

Haha trophies! I got it for free too. I struggle to waste any more time on that old game. It ate my life once already...

NJShadow5163d ago

Oh come now, no one can resist this music. =P

What If... Destiny 2's Gambit Was a Hit?

In a world where Gambit thrived, Destiny 2’s seasons, storylines, and even its endgame might’ve revolved around PvEvP as a core foundation.

Destiny already has the pretty hyper 'raid' fixation and then they added legendary raid dungeons. Hyperfixating in PvEvP wouldn't work as well because you need a lot more than 2% of the userbase to keep that going unlike raids that are propped up by streamers who make running them their whole job. Most players don't play all the raids let alone run them over and over. And most who play PvP don't want structured PvE elements.

We Let Online Gaming Kill Couch Co-Op. Bring Back Split-Screen Games

It’s time game developers stop ignoring one of the most beloved features in gaming history: split-screen couch co-op. I miss it!

It's a shame to me that so few indie devs seem interested in catering to this era (split screen era) of nostalgic gaming. Many of them are interested in retro gaming, obviously, but almost all of them seem to drift either to platformers or Metroidvanias (no issue with either, there have just been so many). I'd love to see an indie dev really try to capture that late N64/PS1 through early Xbox/PS2/GameCube era of split screen gaming.
