"but they don’t back it up with sales.”

So, I guess the 360 audience has something to do with the low sales..

Even though ms offered promotions and deal of the week discount for the games, I don't see how Introversion can blame ms for not being able to back it up with sales..

Mystogan5217d ago (Edited 5217d ago )

WTF is Darwinia and Multiwinia?

ow googled it now i see, you can't get sales if your game sucks duhh.. they sold more on steam probably because it was cheaper and PC has a wider audience.

bozebo5216d ago

@Mystogan
yeah steam has a bigger audience and there is much more consumer confidence on the platform, people are willing to pay a small amount with the risk a game might be bad - which is usually due to it being a console port anyway

atticus145216d ago

so by "googling" you can conclude that the game sucks. nice.

HowarthsNJ5216d ago

Right, XBLA Vs Steam. Why is Steam cheaper?

kingdavid5216d ago

Darwinia doesnt suck you noob.

NeutralGamer5216d ago

Hey man Darwinia was a great game!
Only reason I didnt get it for 360 was because I like to play the game with mouse and keyboard -.-

blackmagic5216d ago

So they are upset because microsoft made them work out all the bugs before they would put it on xbla then, even though microsoft promoted it, it didn't sell well?

Solidus187-SCMilk5216d ago

DARWINIA IS OLD AS FUCK. I have seen it on steam For years and yeas now. I dont think it would sell that much when you could probably get it on steam for cheap as hell for years now.

and these games are made to be played on PC.

Anon19745216d ago

The guys who made Super Meat Boy just finished saying the exact same thing. They commented that Microsoft was a nightmare to work with and they've seen far more sales on Steam then they have with XBL for whatever reason.

Developers have had a hard time cracking the 360 market in the past. Just look at what happened to Banjo Kazooie, or Alan Wake. Looking at what games sell on the 360, I think it's a fact that 360 owners know what they like and what they want. Limbo ended up being on quite a few game of the year lists, but how did it fair in sales?

By contrast, Steam just has a broader audience. That's not a slight against the 360, it's just that you have to know your market.

nnotdead5215d ago

“Do we regret working with Microsoft?” said Morris. “No, but it’s unlikely we’ll work with them again …"

it seems like he(they?) just don't feel it was worth the time or investment to bring it to the 360.

MrBeatdown5216d ago (Edited 5216d ago )

It comes down to marketing. MS controls a lot of what the user sees on their 360.

I have no clue what MS did or didn't do, but if they are going to demand certain standards beyond what the developer believes is adequate, they should reward that extra effort by marketing the game well. This guy seems to think MS didn't do that.

ChristianGamer5216d ago

He just said that they marketed them but failed to back it up with sales. As if microsoft are going to force their install base to buy the games!
Microsoft do not back up anything with sales, the 360 audience does that. If these guys had their way we'd all have unwanted game trials queued on to our consoles lol...better yet, the full game purchased already without our consent

MrBeatdown5216d ago (Edited 5216d ago )

There is a difference between marketing and good marketing.

All he said was that they put it into the deal of the week section. Sounds like it was pretty ineffective, so I wouldn't classify that as good marketing.

There is far more MS can do besides chucking it into the discount bin for a week. They were able to do well on Steam, so obviously the game can sell if it is marketed well.

MrBeatdown5216d ago

Wow. I see the Microsoft Defense Force is out in full swing, and like usual, can do nothing beside disagree without backing it up.

Sure, Microsoft has marketing email, dashboard advertisements, and Xbox.com at their disposal, but sticking the game into the Deal of the week section months after it is released is clearly good enough. It's entirely the game's fault that it didn't sell well. I guess that means Steam is run by miracle workers who could sell ice to Eskimos.

5216d ago
ActivistBike5216d ago

I was looking forward to this game from the trailers, but once I got my hand on the demo I felt let down. Then the price right off the bat was 1200 MSP if I remember correctly, pretty pricey!

Inside_out5216d ago (Edited 5216d ago )

.
...lets blame the publisher after all they make the game right???...O_o

This is a pretty dumb decision on the part of this dev or any other dev out there. Keep it to your self dumba33...why burn a bridge for no reason. XBL has many massive hits...make a game people want, they will buy it. It wouldn't matter what system your game is on, if the demographic of that system is not interested, then they're not interested.

" XBLA were good to us and put us in the deal of the week, but it had no impact. Steam promotion was an order of magnitude better.”

They were good to you, put you in the deal of the weak but it STILL didn't sell well huh...lol...maybe, just maybe your game isn't as hip as you think...lol

Redgehammer5216d ago

I am one of the people that bought Darwinia on the 360(day one), and to be honest I was not that impressed. I am not sure who the fault goes to in that, me for not getting it; or Introversion for not making a very fun game.

Microsoft kills studios just look at FASA & Rare.

kaveti66165217d ago

RARE died while with Nintendo.

Don't blame MS for Rare.

Blame them for Ensemble.

eggbert5216d ago

Your right, they died shortly before the sale to Microsoft. Tired of seeing people posting that microsoft killed them, they didn't, RARE just died on its own. Microsoft got the short straw in the deal though since they had payed a VERY VERY large amount for RARE thinking their game quality would remain constant.

bozebo5216d ago (Edited 5216d ago )

the thing about rare is that the talent were what made them good.

when the talent left and made free radical, rare became just a name with some IP

maby we can blame ubisoft for destroying free radical though

now that the talent are with crytek they will be forced to make another bad game probably, instead of making TS4 which is what everybody wants

nunley335216d ago (Edited 5216d ago )

It has become quite obvious that it was NINTENDO that made RARE good and without it their work has suffered. Maybe they can still revive them but i wanna see if MS can have the same positive effect on them that NINTY had on them.

palaeomerus5216d ago

So how come the talent that supposedly left to form Free Radical weren't that good themselves then?

FLOWCity5216d ago

Never heard of those games...

sp1deynut5216d ago

Seriously... who the f*** are these guys, and why are they blaming MS for sh*tty sales for their sh*tty games???

outlawlife5216d ago (Edited 5216d ago )

I don't see how MS making you work for better production value is bad

this just sounds like someone with sour grapes because their game didn't sell

This could save Prison Architect. The previous studio obviously do not care about this game anymore.

mkis0072348d ago

Partially right, I just think they were done with it after so long in development. They create the games they want. They just want to make many types of games. This move means us fans will get to see the Architect line of games grow. Im expecting a boom like the tycoon games boom of the early 2000's.

[Continue Play] State of Play - Prison Architect

Prison Architect is not an easy game.

It’s not a finished game either, technically; Prison Architect was released as a playable Alpha-build in September 2012. What this game is, is an incredibly moreish place where you can pour hours into a game without realizing it. When you stop to think about just how good this game is already, despite it being unfinished, you have a truly exciting prospect on your hands. Introversion, the team behind the game, are releasing (almost) monthly updates which add a ton of content and bug fixes, build by build. Back in January 2014 we shared with you the release of Alpha Build 17, which brought guns and armed guards to the table, but we would like to take a few minutes to give you a little more of an insight into this game, and tell you why you should be excited about it.

Steam Early Access is quite possibly the biggest story of 2014

It’s official, Steam Early Access is the new Kickstarter for medium budget games. In late 2013 we predicted that the biggest story of the coming year would in fact be Steam Early Access. Since the beginning of the year we’ve heard nothing but success stories due to launching on Early Access. Rust, DayZ, Starbound, and now Next Car Game owe their initial sales success to Steam.

Really? A pc feature will be the biggest story of 2014? Sales or not, it's not happening. The Order: 1886 says hello.

Masterh0ppa4147d ago

the order sure dude.. keep on dreaming.

Section84147d ago

Haven't seen a pc game that looks even close to what GOW3 did nevermind The Order.

Good Job on misinterpreting Ready at Dawn and Ati Section 8. You're making Ready at Dawn look foolish and completely misinterpreting Ati. Well done.

Congratulations on showing your stupidity though. You deserve some type of award for it.

PotatoClock4146d ago

I'm sure a Darwin Award will be on offer for this guy sometime in the future.

75 million active users on Steam are waving at you right now.

PeaSFor4147d ago (Edited 4147d ago )

"75 million active users" numbers of accounts arent "active users" fyi.

the concurent user number is peaking a 7millions, so no, forget your 75m active users silly number.(btw im one of them since steam launch simply by booting my windows.(the number of psn "active users"(lol) surpassed 90 million in june 2013...so it would blatantly be ever bigger right now with all the migrating 360 owners)

(pc only circlejerk can disagree all day/night long but it wont change the fact...that its.. A FACT.)

sorane4147d ago (Edited 4147d ago )

I don't think you know what they mean by "active users" pea. You're not one of those active users unless you've bought or been playing games on steam in the last 30 days. 7 million concurrent users is more than live and psn combined. So yes 75 million active is correct. Just because you say it's a "FACT" doesn't make it one. Also psn has never released active numbers they have only released total number of accounts ever created on psn. Active accounts on psn are much much smaller.

parentsbasement4147d ago

im probably considered a steam active user , I got on there once and hated it , went back one more time....still hated it

TekoIie4147d ago (Edited 4147d ago )

@PeaSFor

You assumed Steam alone tells us how many PC gamers there are.

There is usually 5 million (last time i checked) concurrent LOL players playing at any one time. So how many of those are also signed into steam at any one time?

All I have to say to you is prove it's all 5 million.

If you don't like LOL then how about Starcraft 2? Thats not on Steam either.

I hope you're getting the gist that your entire argument is flawed.

solar4147d ago (Edited 4147d ago )

http://www.rockpapershotgun...

no console does that Pea.

active means you have actually connected to the network. my ps3 has been a blu ray player since UC2 (great game btw).

LAWSON724147d ago (Edited 4147d ago )

@Peas

I doubt Xbox Live has that large of a concurrent player count. I cannot find the new record but back when MW2 came out they broke 2M concurrent users, and the year before they only broke 1.5M. It would of had to have a 400% increase in 4 Years and I doubt that has happened considering the user count was roughly 20M and now it is at almost 50M.

You would be surprised how popular PC gaming is. LOL has a concurrent count around 5M and Dota 2 even has 500k, meanwhile I think the highest concurrent player count on Xbox Live is 1.4M for one game (MW3).

The PC is not some small niche crowd who like to think there are this huge amount of players, because the FACT is it is actually pretty damn popular platform. You could say well they are f2p but last time I checked DOTA and LOL made quite a bit of cash last year

rhcpfan4147d ago

Who knows, that game could also end up simply being another Killzone.

Somebody4147d ago

It should be a big news.

PC gamers are able to participate and help develop new features such as Steam's Greenlight and Early Access, all without forcing them to buy new PCs.

Console fans needed to wait for a whole new generation of consoles before they can enjoy new major features such as PS Now.

sorane4147d ago (Edited 4147d ago )

The Order? You mean linear generic third person action game #4567698708 with no replay value that's barely gonna be worth a weekend rental fee? Yeah have fun wasting $60+ on that. I've already got 10x the gameplay from early access titles than the order will ever have.

Section84147d ago

You must be either blind or just not looking that hard then.

Master-H4147d ago

"generic third person action game #4567698708" all of this without even seeing gameplay of the game, let alone play it to judge, anyway have fun paying for your glorified betas.

Gamecrastinate4147d ago (Edited 4147d ago )

We're totally cool with readers disagreeing. That's what the internet is for after all. But of all the games coming out in 2014 you chose The Order: 1886 as the biggest one?

2014 just started. -_-....

MainstreamGamer4146d ago

Yeah, I love paying developers to be their alpha or beta tester, and not the other way around./S. Today's modern gamers
are so pathetic.

PotatoClock4146d ago

Yeah, geez, these modern gamers!
How dare Kickstarter and the like allow games to be created that big name publishers would determine as too risky and would not fund themselves. They should be happy with the new Battlefield 28 or Call of Duty 56 and never complain about wanting something different! /s
