"Previous installments in this technically strong but creatively lacking series have been one-note, papering over a lack of originality with a hefty dose of shock and awe," Edge Magazine's staff writers wrote. "Killzone 3, by contrast, attempts to wage a more varied war … but it all still depends heavily on the brutal impact of the shooting at its core."
That said, Killzone 3 still offers a solid first-person action experience, according to a majority of the critics. Gamespot writer Kevin VanOrd encapsulated the aggregate opinion of Guerilla Games' latest in the following statement:
"Killzone 3 isn't the game it could have been, but when it comes to capturing the madness of larger-than-life planetside battles, few games do it better."
