great list. I like how Folklore ended up as number 1.

Chris3992809d ago

Brilliant game, story (2 separate character plots), game-play, and graphics for a launch title. AND it had the oh-so-mighty online component too. There was a PSP sequel/ continuation but we never got that over here.

I think they shelved the series after that :( BUT the IP is still kicking around, so there's always hope. That same desperate hope that has me yearning for a Legend of Dragoon sequel one day.

ChineseDemocracy2809d ago

Folklore is actually SO good, best use of motion controls this generation (IMO). Great story, great character development, great gameplay, great everything!

Disappointed that there's no sequel planned, but nevertheless I enjoyed it while it lasted.

malandra2809d ago

underrated is not the correct term to refer to games like Demon's Souls and Valkyria Chronicles

they received unanimous positive reviews, in fact many people consider Demon's Souls one of the best (if not the best) games of this generation

which is pretty much the opposite of underrated

HebrewHammer2809d ago

Malandra, these games were all excellent. They were underrated because they clearly did not reach the potential they were capable of. Sure, Gamespot gave Demon's Souls GotY, but that doesn't mean it was recognized as broadly as it should have...

kaveti66162809d ago

Not underrated.

ExplosionSauce2809d ago (Edited 2809d ago )

Unfortunately many of these games don't have enough "mainstream appeal" despite them being so good, which is a shame.

malandra2808d ago

maybe you should look "underrated" in the dictionary

if there's one thing Demon's Souls didn't lack was good "ratings"

HebrewHammer2808d ago (Edited 2808d ago )

Underrated applies to everyones opinion. It is not confined to publications or journalists. Most of us at N4G know that some reviewers are full of shit and are not to be taken seriously. But hey, that goes for most reviewers. Games are hard to detail on a point scale. Some love certain games, while others love the opposite. I used underrated as all all-encompassing term. I'm simply listing the games that I FELT did not acquire their deserved recognition.

But hey, even still. Lets go along with your definition of underrated. Demon's Souls has an 8.9 average and Valkyria Chronicles has a 8.6. THOSE ARE ABSOLUTELY UNDERRATED! If you disagree and feel those scores are justified, keep in mind this is an OPINION PIECE.

Thank You

TheLastGuardian2808d ago (Edited 2808d ago )

What about The Sly Collection? That game is a must buy yet it only sold like 150k. What's wrong with you people? Buy The Sly Collection already. You'll be so glad you did.

I'm not saying low sales = underrated but that game had bad sales and it didn't get the scores it deserved. I just played all the Sly games on PS2 when they first came out and I already have nostalgia for the series. I'm going to be pissed if Sly 4 doesn't get made because of bad sales for The Sly Collection.

I agree. Folklore is so awesome. One of my favorite games of the entire generation, easily, no question about it. I have such fond memories of it. Beautiful graphics, addictive gameplay, great imagination, interesting story, it was just awesome.

I'm playing Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom now, actually. Same developer. It's pretty good, but not as good as Folklore.

HebrewHammer2809d ago (Edited 2809d ago )

Folklore will always have a special place in my heart. Its because of that game that I almost always buy Japanese developed PS3 exclusives in hopes that I will find something just as memorable. There is just something so humble about that game. I love it.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi2809d ago (Edited 2809d ago )

definitely like folklore. That game was simply beautiful and one of the only ones that worked really well with the sixaxis controls. Still got that game. Prolly never gonna sell it. I have six of the games on that list.

Shang-Long2809d ago

Forklore was my 1st ps3 game when i got it in 08.. i still own it, thats how much it means to my gaming library

Linzoid2809d ago

Warhawk is the number 1 underrated game on PS3 full stop! I agree with the list but Warhawk is probably the best multiplayer game on any console this generation.
I was on the Beta for it in June 2007 and I still play it now. Great game and one of my all time favourites.

Very, very underrated!

Optical_Matrix2809d ago

Same here man. Got my PS3 for Christmas 2007 from blockbuster and it came bundled with Folklore (lucky). Brilliant game. From that list, I also own Demons Souls, MAG and Valkyria Chronicles and what I've played of them, they a too are incredibly underrated.

Had Demons Souls a week now and finally got the chance to sit down and play it properly today. Going through the first dungeon and dying about 6 times, finally finish it felt so rewarding. If the game continues the way the first hour has been...well...this could end up being one of my favorite games ever. It's fantastic.

showtimefolks2809d ago

3d dot hero is great like zelda
yakuza 3 was my runner up for GOTY
Valkyria Chronicles is a great game but suquels are on psp come on sega
Siren: Blood Curse is a very very under rated game that's how horror games should be done go hide in closet and make one small noise and its running time

overall a great list

even though most ratchet games sell over a million atleast i feel like

and jak

all 3 IP's are very under rated

Eyeco2808d ago (Edited 2808d ago )

FOLKLORE!! The game is becoming harder and harder to find, its gonna be a rare title give or take 3 years, if you see it PICK IT UP IMMEADIATLEY.

Dont let it become like MGS 3 Subsistence, a game that will set you back $100-250 im dead serious

clearelite2808d ago

Cool, I was planning on picking Folklore up ASAP anyway. Yakuza 3 as well. Then I will have almost every game on that list. Any opinions about WKC and MAG though?

Great list though. I didn't throw up one time while reading it.

PostApocalyptic2808d ago

Good list, but the only problem (as stated by the comments on that page) is that they wouldn't categorize Demon’s Souls and Valkyria Chronicles as "underrated."

That being said, I need to check out these...

3D Dot Game Heroes
Siren: Blood Curse
White Knight Chronicles (from a JRPG perspective)

I've already played Folklore and MAG. So, I know why they're good enough to be on the underrated list. But I was unaware of the others.

Folklore and Heavenly Sword suffer from being a first generation game there are good games its sad really i like to see them get a sequel

Optical_Matrix2809d ago

Folklore is one of the most underrated games in existence. With this generations new found tech and advancements, I'd LOVE to see a Folklore 2. It'd be fantastic.

DigitalRaptor2809d ago (Edited 2809d ago )

NEED to get my hands on Folklore!

So many wonderful games on this list, which are sadly not as appreciated as they should be due to them not having enough exposure.

I'm so glad these games exist!

resistance1002809d ago

Heavenly Sword is a fantastic game and sit's well alongside God of War.

Still i remember how it got slated for its length big time by critic's (even though it took me about 12hours to complete).

roguewarrior2809d ago

i remember reading it was a five hour game, took me about 10 hours to complete with deaths. kept thinking it would end, but there was a good amount of game play. loved the sixaxis cannon levels and kai,s arrow levels. bong hits n H.S. FTW

malandra2808d ago

on my second playthrough I skipped the cutscenes and beat it in one hour and 57 minutes
