BioWare: Dragon Age 2 will be as good as Baldur's Gate II

The game may have come out eleven years ago, but many PC gamers still consider Baldur's Gate II: Shadow of Amn to be BioWare's finest work.

Assuming that to be the case, how does the soon-to-be-released Dragon Age 2 stack up against the company's best game ever? Apparently, quite well.

That's a fairly ballsy statement they just made, there. BioWare does a lot of great work, Mass Effect was a great game, but I'm not sure how I feel about DG2. I'll be keeping my eye on it, though, if only for this statement.

DG2? You mean DA2? One can only hope it'll be good. As good as BG2? That'd be awesome.

Baldur's Gate II was such a great game, that if Dragon Age II is half of what BGII was, it'd still be an excellent game.

I have Baldur's Gate II Shadows of Amn here at my side for me is one of the best games if not the best right there with Morrowind :3

Dragon Age II will be as good? hmm i hope

Bioware made almost the exact same claim about Mass Effect 2 before details were shown for it. They said compared to the original Mass Effect, "Mass Effect 2 will be like what Baldurs Gate 2 was compared to its first game." Something along those lines.

Malebaria4978d ago (Edited 4978d ago )

Oh, how incredible BG II's script was. I expect BioWare to deliver a great game, regardless of this claim.

thats_just_prime4978d ago (Edited 4978d ago )

I agree but given that DA1 wasnt even 1 100th as good as BG1 or 2 I dont think the statemnt made by bioware is true.

I lost a lot of faith in bioware after ME 2 and DA1. I blame it on EA

Bold claim, Bioware.

You's best deliver >:(

I hope DA2 can end up at least as good as the first

SactoGamer4978d ago

@tigersnake86: I believe it should be at the very least that good.

MWH4978d ago (Edited 4978d ago )

@Pandamobile
my exact words.

aviator1894978d ago

that's quite a claim. hopefully, it's because he knows they've got quite a game on their hands.

BGII is Bioware's best game

soundslike4978d ago

kinda believe him to be honest. If they can clean up the combat, bump up the production values of sound and visuals, and keep the writing the same or improve it, it will be. DA 1 just had too many "i wish they did ___" moments.

But without the game kicking your ass in the first 10 minutes like BA2 did, I don' know if it will be able to top it.

Play the original Baldur's Gate games right now on Game Pass before Baldur's Gate 3

To make up for the Baldur's Gate 3 release window delay on Xbox, fans of the RPG franchise can expect Baldur's Gate 1 and Baldur's Gate 2 to drop on Game Pass.

Looks like more quality RPGs are coming our way via Gamepass! Amazing News!

franwex420d ago

At this point it’s RPG Pass. I’m not complaining, I’ll sub again to try Starfield. Maybe even sooner than that if I beat FF16 in the next few weeks.

GhostScholar420d ago

Not even a quarter of games on game pass are rpgs. This is one of the reason Xbox has been trying to establish a better relationship with the Japanese devs and fans.

A few tips for BG1&2..
#1: Press the little red diamond thing. That's quick loot and will show you whatever is on the ground, including the contents of corpses. Saves a million clicks and is the difference between an unbearable looting experience and a somewhat tolerable one.
#2: Go into the menus and enable some autopause settings. Particularly for when you spot an enemy or a trap. Probably also on character death.
#3: Crowd control is more OP in these games than in any other RPG I've ever played in my life. Fear it. Abuse it.
#4: Be patient. These are not experiences to be rushed and would be better skipped than skimmed.

At this point lore/recap videos are probably better if you are interested in BG3 but haven't played the originals.

kythlyn420d ago

I spent half of July playing BG1&2. They definitely have old game jank, and as I mentioned above, the crowd control is insanely broken. But if you can stomach the combat and have patience, they are definitely still worth playing. The amount of freedom the player is given is just astonishing, even with the standards of today (pretty impressive considering over 20 years have passed). Baldur's Gate II in particular reminded me why it's often considered the best CRPG ever made.
