PS Blog - MotorStorm Apocalypse Video Interview

James Gallagher // Blog Manager, SCEE: Last week, we invited a bunch of journalists to join us at the Classic Car Club in London’s trendy Shoreditch to celebrate the upcoming release of MotorStorm Apocalypse. There was a presentation and live playthrough of a brand new track, loads of 3D TVs to play the game on and some fairly spectacular burgers.

This is going to be the best racing game this year.

disturbing_flame4979d ago

Hu ?

Sorry mate but GT5 have been destroyed by the press.
Killzone 3 even if the game seems better than KZ2 have a lower metacritic score.
LbP 2 which seems better than the original have also a lower score on metacritic than the first episode.

Guess what i think this game will be destroyed as well, i'll eat my pop corn for the first reviews, fanboy tears everywhere.

DigitalRaptor4978d ago (Edited 4978d ago )

Seriously dude, you're acting like an undercover troll.

Who cares if idiotic journalists butcher a game in the press anymore? Who cares about metacritic? What difference does that make to the millions gamers' enjoyment of MotorStorm Apocalypse? For me, this will be one of the best racing experiences that can be provided in 2011. Why is MotorStorm being compared to Forza?

You should know by now that reviews cannot be trusted. It is all opinions, and biased ones at that.

You are full of shit and false hope that PS3 will dwindle and Xbox 360 remain on its perch of timed exclusive content, shooters, Kinect software and reliance on Xbox Live.

SoapShoes4979d ago (Edited 4979d ago )

@disturbing_flame - critics don't determine how good a game is... In all industries there are critics and they don't always match up with what people think.

GT5 proved that people don't care about what the press says.

remanutd554979d ago

good thing you said that the game has been established as a disappointment by the press but ps3 owners buying another console for another game thats not GT ? man i dont see that happening at all , GT is playstation simple as that , GT has managed to outsell all ps3 exclusive games in less than 4 months lol , as a matter of fact if im not mistaken its the best selling game on the system thus far , no matter what the press says GT has a HUGE fan base to back the game up and well to me its the best driving simulator all around but to each their own oh and of course i wouldnt come here without proof so here you go
http://www.gtplanet.net/5-5... http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... so there you go , ps3 gamers are buying GT5 and lots of them play online too , myself included

disturbing_flame4979d ago

Of course playstation users buy GT5. Man...
I mean everybody bought a PS3 to play GT5 when it will be out one day.

It seems like you like numbers, now look if GT5 has been a system seller after its release.

No.

Why ?

because PC users or 360 users have better games on their systems.
How they know that ?
Cause they read reviews as everybody and when they read that GT5 is a disppointment they feel they don't need a PS3, so they don't buy one.

It's simple like that.

Now i'm saying that the biggest part of PS3's exclusives this year gonna be killed by the press.
Kz3 is about 5 points behind KZ2 on metacritic even if the game seems better, so excuse me if am not aggree with someone thinking MS3 will be the best racing game this year, Forza 4 is coming and i think the game is going for a decent 94% on metacritics, now that the press has done all the work to make its achievment.
And on PC we got Iracing to play.

At the end of the year i think also that some PS3 users will buy a 360 to play FORZA 4.

remanutd554979d ago

ok you really lost me , what GT5 being a system seller has to do with other console games? GT is the prime of racing simulators , its like that , even professional racers practice on it , everyone knows it , i was just responding to your comment with actual facts , i dont play sales just facts .

me as a multiplatform owner dont have to look anywhere else if i want to get the very best driving simulator on a console then GT is the only way , its simply the best , if i want arcade racers i get something else but driving simulator , is GT and only GT , and american media have been very harsh on sony exclusives but i for 1 like that because i expect the very very best from them , when others less talented get forgiven sony is punished but i as playstation fan like that because they push sony to bring their best to the table and so far im very proud to be a playstation fan.

this year is no exception i have been enjoying a very unique franchise on consoles ( btw i seriously think LBP is 1 of those games that define playstation very very well ) and soon to own Killzone 3 , Motorstorm Apocalypse , Socom 4 , Yazuka 4 no matter what the media say , i dont play games because someone else tell me what to play , i play because i like them

disturbing_flame4978d ago

Of course it has something to do here, it's because it had "bad" reviews that GT5 is not a system seller.

I'm saying to the people who say that Motorstorm3 is the best racing game this year that it will clearly not be the case, just because of Forza 4.

And i think also that the press will the same way that i'm saying that to you Motorstorm3 will not be the best racing car of the year like they did for GT5.

And of course GT5 is clearly not the best driving simulator out there, wake up dude, it's been now 3 months that everybody knows it.
If it was the case GT5 would be a system seller, everybody would love to play it, but when people reads the reviews they understand that with all the bad feedack this game is far from the best driving simulator ever Sony wanted to promote.

And by the way i've also got a PS3, and because i've got both systems and i know GT5 and Forza 3, i can tell you that Forza 4 will be the driving experience of this year on consoles.
If you were a true multiplatform player you would know that Forza 3 is better than GT5 and Forza 4 is going to kick out loud.

Can't really make that assumption Necrum. Motorstorm can't be compared to say GT5, they are completely different beasts.
I do think it will be a very good game though.

Edit: It was close to the end of the year though, and anyway once the year ends, then we'll see. I just gave GT5 as an example.

NecrumSlavery4979d ago (Edited 4979d ago )

GT5 came out last year though. Motorstorm: Apocolypse could easily be 2011 Racer of the Year, and this gens best Arcade Racer.

xTruthx4979d ago (Edited 4979d ago )

lol at disturbing flame, its to sad to even reply to that. No 1 reply to him! Dont feed the trolls

Calm Down Sunshine4979d ago

I'd go a step further and say the best racing game so far this generation.

For me anyway..

Motorstorm really has hit the nail on the head.

Sounds great.. especially the part about online betting.. Reminds me alot of Black Ops's wager matches.

From what I gathered, They want it to be the Call of Duty of racing games.. on PS3 :)

remanutd554979d ago

sounds great , good interview , LUNATICS UNITE!!!

49erguy4979d ago

This and Dirt 3 are all I need this year in terms of racers.

Revisiting PS3 classic Motorstorm - The driving celebration that should never have ended

Digital Foundry : Evolution Studios' Motorstorm is one of the first, finest and most fondly remembered of launch titles for PlayStation 3. It's a release designed to answer the question posed by each new console generation: what makes a game 'next-gen'? With its robust physics engine and massive tracks, Motorstorm serves up a bold affirmative answer to this question, delivering an experience that could never have existed on prior console hardware. At the same time, the path to release was fraught with challenges that almost serve as a microcosm of the PlayStation 3 release situation itself. It was a success, however, with a trilogy of PS3 releases, plus PSP, Vita and even PS2 off-shoots.

After Driveclub and Onrush, the dev team will now contribute to and assist with the development of the upcoming NFS.

darthv72860d ago

I would give anything to have a full compilation of the series remastered to play on PS5 with full DS support. Feeling the deformation of the tracks as you race in pacific rift or the snow laden tracks in arctic edge... that would be sweet.

MastaMold859d ago (Edited 859d ago )

Yes MotorStorm World Tour for PS5 damn it Sony make it. The Desert, Pacific Islands, The Arctic and City races.

Army_of_Darkness860d ago

Motorstorm Pacific rift was awesome! I think MotorStorm: Apocalypse was what killed the franchise due to its change of direction...

darthv72860d ago

Pacific rift is the best (IMO) but apocalypse wasnt what killed it. At least it was still somewhat of a MS game. The RC one is really a departure from the norm. None of which were bad as they were all fun in their own ways.

Army_of_Darkness859d ago

Lol! I completely forgot about the RC version.

Knushwood Butt859d ago (Edited 859d ago )

RC was a blast to play on Vita.

Apocalypse had unfortunate timing due to the 3/11 earthquake in Japan. I never got around to playing that one.

Evolution had some harsh experiences. I had Driveclub from launch and the server issues weren't that bad and certainly didn't prevent you from enjoying the game.

ABizzel1859d ago

Agree Apocalypse didn't kill it, it's just racing games in general just became less popular nearing the end of the PS360 generation as it was flooded with medicore racers and the extremely niche but enjoyable ones like Motorstorm, Blur, Spilt Second, and Forza Horizon (still going strong, but actual sales have been decent fro a racer, and often expanded by console bundles and now GamePass)

But since the PS4/XBO generation had a lack of arcade racers, it's a prime time for games like this to come back.

I've said for the longest, the additional income of PS+ Premium should be used for, Remastering, Remaking, or recreating sequels / spinoffs of classic PS franchises to launch into the service. Many PS3 games fit this mold of looking good enough that a quick remaster to 4K@60 with better texture maps would give them near PS4 quality.

Remasters: A game like Motorstorm look good enough where it can simply be remastered in 4K @ 60fps, and have better textures for mud, mountains/rock structures, and vehicles and it would hold up WELL.

Remakes: Games like Legend of Dragoon, Warhawk (could be a simple remaster also), and so many others could get remakes like FF7.

Recreates: Shorter sequels/prequels/spin-offs to other classic PS IPs like how Infamous First Light / Blood Festival (BF was a highly underrated vampire game) and Uncharted Lost Legacy. Give spin-offs to things like Heavenly Sword, The Order 1886 (1786 or 1986), Puppeteer, Tokyo Jungle, and more.

ABizzel1859d ago (Edited 859d ago )

This is also why Sone NEEDS to get PS3 emulation up and running. It gets rid of all the PS3 server farms and replaces it with software that can work on EVERY future PS console with updated coding.

At bare minimum emulation could double the resolution and framerates of all PS3 games making many of them 1440p@60fps without any real work, and a few 4k@60fps.

As for full-on remakes again updating to 4K@60fps with completely revamped textures, and an option for 1440p@60fps with global illumination can make these games shine with a new lease on life.

Also I'm still waiting on my DriveClub 1440p@60fps update 😭

ChiefofLoliPolice859d ago

Apocalypse was actually pretty good i don't think that's what killed the series. PR was the best though.

I was late to PS3 and Pacific Rift was the first game I picked up on it... huge miss to not have one on PS4, hope it gets some love on PS5 (as well as Ridge Racer and Wipeout).

akurtz860d ago

Only driving game i enjoyed.

darkrider860d ago

Really cool franchise. It's shame it ended

RosweeSon860d ago

Never really got into it myself I remember getting it with ps3 and being a bit underwhelmed I preferred the RC version they did for vita 🙌🏻🤣

EvertonFC860d ago

Going from ps2 to ps3 was not underwhelming when I first played motorstorm, it was like nothing we'd ever seen before ?

RosweeSon859d ago (Edited 859d ago )

Each to their own didn’t like it myself. 🤷🏻‍♂️✌🏻 ;I didn’t say going from ps2/3 was underwhelming just the launch game motorstorm, bit different but hey ho.

PS3 was a slow burner for me it’s my least favourite Sony console, maybe as I had my 360 as my main at that point but yeah wasn’t impressed with first couple of years to be honest but that’s just me. Once uncharted MGS4 GT5 Last of us GTA4/5 dropped sure but launch games weren’t all that imo. Resistance was alright wasn’t as big a change as ps4 or even now ps5 for me. PS3 took out rumble and basically went HD it’s wasn’t exactly a revolutionary start. 🤷🏻‍♂️✌🏻 ;

10 Must Play Games on PlayStation Now

Robert Workman (Prima Games): Sony experimented with its cloud-based PlayStation Now service over the past several months, but few people took advantage of it due to the high prices. After all, who wants to pay $40 to rent Earth Defense Force 2025 for 90 days when you can buy it on your PS3 for $20 at GameStop? That said, the company remedied this problem with the introduction of a new subscription model that kicks off next week. Whether you pay $19.99 a month or $44.99 for three months, there's more value offered with this program.

With that, over 100 games will be available at launch to choose from, with unlimited play for each of the titles (without extra fees). These include a number of obscure games and popular favorites. With that in mind, we have 10 suggestions for what you should play after signing up, so you can get the most from your seven-day trial.

I will be on board with this as soon as they can offer the completely lineup of specific franchises. I don't want to sign up to play Uncharted if I can't play parts 2 and 3. Likewise I don't want to play Killzone 3 when I haven't played 1 or 2.

Buff10443551d ago

Agreed. Never really played Uncharted 2 and 3 myself.

SamPao3550d ago

Well I never played Killzone 1 and I've been enjoying the series since 2.
Heard mixed stuff about k1.
But I have to agree with Uncharted. You gotta play them all!

Neonridr3550d ago

I mean I played Shadow Fall on the PS4 without playing any of the other KZ games and I really enjoyed it, so I definitely want to go back to experience all the others.

Same with Infamous, since Second Son was my first game in the series.

ChrisW3550d ago

Hmm... Only 3 are must plays in my opinion. But that's my opinion. Not the author's nor yours. Only mine.

Will Evolution Studios Come Back To Motorstorm?

Evolution Studios has been known for World Rally Chapionship and the Motorstorm series now Evolution Studios is creating the upcoming Driveclub game but will they ever return to the Motorstorm series?

Abash3711d ago

I hope so, but I am glad they took a break from the series to make DriveClub. Hopefully they rotate between MotorStorm and DriveClub for making new installments

L6RD7BLU33711d ago

True, the only problem I had with this is that Polyphony already make the Gran Turismo series so there's no need for another simulation racing game for the Playstation Motorstorm is unique but I'll wait and see how Driveclub does.

Abash3711d ago

The thing is though is that DriveClub isn't a pure simulation racer like Gran Turismo. Evolution even said the following

“It sits in the middle between simulation and arcade. It’s grounded in realism, so the cars have a sense of weight, a tactile feel with the road, but we want to make sure it’s easy to throw them around the corners, it’s all about having fun with the cars."

That's precisely why I cant wait to play DriveClub. A racing game with intense speed and is more about fun than recreating a realistic driving feeling is what Im craving to play

Majin-vegeta3711d ago

For the last time DC is not a damn simulator it's an arcade racer FFS!

Darkstares3711d ago

If Driveclub is a success I doubt they will go back to Motorstorm, instead they will continue with the Driveclub ip.

Sevir3710d ago

Both IP s can exist, they can take the destruction and layer it on the Driveclub engine and add weather effects and I'd buy it in a heart beat, every one of the motorstorms have sold well on PS3.. the first one selling the best, but still amazing

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 3710d ago
BitbyDeath3711d ago

Gonna try DriveClub but Motorstorm is more my type of racer.
Hope it comes back.

L6RD7BLU33711d ago

Yeah I'm more into arcade racers but I do like to play simulation racers sometimes too.

killer4fun533711d ago

yea i like ramming people in races.man i remember punching a guy on atv.

Team_Litt3711d ago

The last one crashed and burnt in terms of sales and was no critical darling either. They have to make another one so not to leave the MotorStorm legacy forever tarnished.

BitbyDeath3711d ago (Edited 3711d ago )

Yea but only because the timing of a game about an apocalypse being released when the world had an apocalypse which then caused it to be either banned or delayed in many places around the world.

iamnsuperman3711d ago

It was really poor timing. It did suffer because of that catastrophe. I had a lot of fun with it and I would like to see more.

BitbyDeath3711d ago

Yea, I really enjoyed it.
Although Pacific Rift was my favourite of the three.

user74029313711d ago

imagine motorstorm on the ps4!

luis_spartano3711d ago (Edited 3711d ago )

I sure hope so!

Although MotorStorm Apocalypse didn't have a massive success(Sony fault!), it's the one I enjoyed the most.

Unfortunately, I think if Driveclub doesn't succeed, MotorStorm won't came back. Maybe Sony even close the studio.
