Is this latest King of Fighters really the ultimate match?
"As with most 2d fighters released on XBLA, KOF 2002 is presented as close to it’s original glory as possible and this sadly involves it’s original screen aspect of a 4:3 ratio which does mean that the annoying borders are evident throughout proceedings. Whilst I appreciate that this is how the game should be played to get the most from proceedings, personally I would have liked an option to make the game fill the screen as this can prove a little too much for some."
PALGN: "Last year, SNK Playmore released The King of Fighters XII, and it was a rushed, lacking and a mess of a game. The only it thing it had going for it was its new graphics engine and a lot of the things that made the series so famous were almost non-existent, such as the massive character roster and the vast number of moves and techniques. While we await the release of The King of Fighters XIII (which is shaping up to be a proper game with substance), SNK Playmore has given us a port of The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match exclusively on Xbox Live Arcade."
Wired: "The King of Fighters 2002 Ultimate Match doesn’t promise much beyond a nostalgic 2-D fighting experience, but it certainly packs a wallop.
The cumbersome name deserves an explanation. After publisher SNK Playmore stopped producing annual editions of its premier fighting-game franchise, it kept King of Fighters in the public eye by revamping older games in the series. Thus, this is not a 2002-vintage game but a 2009 remake of it."
